Mei Lin's nice, but the Bundles make her "meh"

I like the look of the new Mei Lin character, but DAZ... you've killed her for me with the completely underwhelming bundles you've put together. It's not that that items are bad, per se, but is there anything that we haven't seen before? I've never looked at a new figure release and had such a feeling of deja vu. Did G2F really need yet another cheongsam or chinese dress? Was there a call for yet another set of fan poses? And you're launching her without any kind of bonus discount like there was with Lilith?
Sorry, I like her but she's going into the wish list and not the shopping cart, and thought you should know why.

Yeah, I love her design, especially her smooth, petite frame, but like I said in the other topic, she pretty much nothing more than an A6 Realistic with a bigger focus on Asian-pop. But I agree, even then, most of her content is Asian princess and fans, stuff we already got from A6's release. I can only imagine how much of Lee a Hiro 6 will end up copying...
I would like to see a range of products sold in bundles. I don't really do asian-inspired marital arts renders so seeing some normal contemporary clothing in addition to the fantasy/fantastic stuff would be nice. Love to see a business dress with heels, or contemporary casual, or gasp, even sci-fi.
There are a few characters I will probably buy. And maybe a couple of hairs. But I'm passing on the outfits and one of the characters. I like more realism, and I have yet, really to use any of Lee's martial-arts inspired outfits.
do you pronounce it May or My?
She has a bonus discount for PC+ members, as part of the PC anniversary.
As for the bundles, I must admit that what I found the most interesting in them was hairs. I rather like the cheongsam too, it's a bit different from the Xiao Mei finery one, but there is indeed already one available for G2F...
I probably won't use the other outfits much as is, but they might be useful for kitbashing.
What I found DEVASTATING about the hairs was that none of them were Valea.
The prices have been messed up now for the bundles. What's up with that?
Anyway. The more I look, the more I realize I need it less.
Agreed, agreed. It is not a pro bundle without an item by her!
I searched the new releases. Some brief opinions that may get repeated a bit:
1. Mei Lin doesn't look very refreshing to me, the lack of natural lips among the promos saddens me.
2. I like the tails Thian Hair has, but if there is no way to get rid of the articulate buns n the back, I must pass: http://www.daz3d.com/thian-hair-for-genesis-2-female-s. However, the character wearing the hair is lovely and I'd appreciate a recipe.
3. If there was a way to get just the shoes from Battle Kimono (http://www.daz3d.com/new-releases/battle-kimono-for-genesis-2-females), I'd jump at the chance. I just love SI's work.
4. The cheongsam Sarsa and Xena made is awesome, very realistic and not skimpy. A treat - onto my wishlist it goes.
5. Goldtassel's hairstyles are very nice. Kita Hair simply swept me off my legs while Choko Hair is a down-to-Earth set suitable for most genres. Onto my wishlist - both.
6. As much as I - by a rule of thumb - don't buy poses, I added the set by Capsces onto my wishlist. Apart from the expansion for Wildenlander HD and stuff for mertails, it's the first time ever for my wishlist to see poses.
7. Mei Lin looks more like some Russians I saw than an Asian woman. I hoped for a worthy sister to Xiao-Wen, Liu and Naoki... Not implying she is bad - DAZ figures are always fine - but she didn't steal my heart whatsoever.
Agreed (vide above). Kitbashing? Yes, the little kimono Saki's wearing looks like a very pretty shirt to me. Not a dress (too short), but a really nice shirt.
I thought about this one for a while but ended up just getting the pro bundle while it was at such a deep discount due to the PC Anniversary sale. Mostly because when I cherry picked it ( put everything I wanted in my shopping cart) the price ended up being more than the bundle itself and that was with all possible discounts applied. I also thought about just putting them into my wish list and grabbing them one at a time but again, I would have ended up paying more for the same items over the long run. It just made better sense to take the whole bundle. Besides, as another person stated in this same thread, the items I was underwhelmed with did have parts that would lend themselves to "kit-bashing".
The other thing that probably makes this bundle attractive to me is that I only ever purchased the base figure for Aiko 6. This bundle gives me a more "real world" asian female that can be used in conjunction withe the Lee figure. So, for those that did not invest a lot into Aiko 6 this is possibly a wise purchase.
I agree, I was also underwhelmed with her. Mainly because she doesn't really look Asian. Well perhaps Filipino, but she might as well be Latino. But also because the selection of clothes were rather uninspiring. I imagine perhaps DAZ burned all the fuel on Lilith.
On the other hand I like the idea of ethnic figures, and am hoping for an African couple to be the next ones out.
I don't always buy bundles, actually for G2F characters the only other bundle I bought was the one for Giselle. In this case I did the math and buying the bundle was something like 2$ more than buying just the parts I really wanted, so it was worth it.
The Chinese pronunciation's "May" (like the month).
As soon as I saw the Mei Lin bundle it went into my cart. This is just what I'm looking for and please have the PA do more asian inspired stuff!!! I can't wait for Mec4D's asian custume dress and Bruce Lee morph. Keep up the good work Daz, I prefer shopping here than at the other site.
I've been looking for a good kimono for years. After today's releases, I'm still looking. We've got not one, but two more sexy "kimonos" showing acres of cleavage and miles of leg, and still nothing (except that one fancy furisode version) that even resembles anything that might be found in Japan (outside of a brothel catering to western fetishists, that is).
I really Like the new Mei Lin character.
Now all I need is for Daz to FIX Carrara 8.5 so we can use Genesis characters without a lot of workarounds and the like!
I LOVE Mei Lin, Olympia, Lilith, but i WISH I could use them!
...since Daz moved on from Gen4, I find most "Pro" character bundles to be petty much "meh" as well. It used to be a Pro Bundle included necessary content like head and body morphs and different skin maps at multiple resolutions, along with a couple pose sets, some hair a character morph, and basic clothing.
Since the introduction of Genesis this has all changed as the necessary base body and head morphs (including facial expressions) were sold separately and all "Generation" figures/characters became nothing more than specialised morph sets of the parent Genesis mesh.
Save for the Young Teens5 Pro Bundle, I found most of the other character bundles to be rather a waste as they primarily included clothing and characters, a good portion of which I would rarely if ever use. I actually found it more cost effective to purchase the base character and a few items I did like separately at the introductory discount (which I did when David5 was released). Yeah, so that means I don't get the "toast", Not a biggie as I am doing this for developing characters for my written and RPG work as well as telling stories with my scenes, not showcasing erotic art. (I only ended up with the M5/V5 Pro bundles because they were offered as part of the upgrade to Cararra 8.5 Pro).
I would be far more interested if instead, there was a "Build Your own Bundle" deal offered when a new character/figure was released.
I'm fine with the character, although I have to admit she doesn't look like the Asian character I was expecting. Much less petite than I thought she would be. Maybe it'll take a few renders to capture my heart. Or break it. In any way I can not in good conscience say that I'm missing the Valea Hair. In fact, the hair is probably what I like best about this bundle.
I was overjoyed by the bundle contents this time, which isn't common for me.. slam dunk into the cart.
I gave up on Carrara for exactly that reason. Daz''s support for it has been so bad that I've passed up several chances to upgrade to 8.5 pro for about 25 bucks... it's a dead program walking as far as I'm concerned.
Well, I looked closely at what was in the bundles, because I wasn't sure about getting one either. After I totaled up the base figure, the two characters I wanted, the two outfits I wanted, and the one hair I really wanted, it was $10 more than the pro bundle. So the pro bundle gives me a few pose sets that I might have bought at some time and will definitely use if I have them, and a few more hair sets and outfits that may be needed someday, plus my PC coupon, and the decision was pretty easy to make.
...actually, I am somewhat impressed with the selection of items in the Mei Lin Pro Bundle than those for the other Gen6 characters.
Were I actually interested in her, the only thing I'd change would be substituting the Battle Kimono or one of the dress texture add ons for Kazumi.
I was rather impressed by the bundles myself. There were some genuinely great items included, and even a HD morph which I'm certain to get plenty of mileage out of. I'm a big lover of pro bundles as they generally give you more for less, and I wasn't disappointed by this one either.
I would love to see a proper kimono though. I don't think there's ever been a true traditional kimono. And yes, I realize Mei Lin is Chinese and not Japanese. I'm just adding it to my wishlist of additional far-Eastern goodies.
...SickleYield has a rather authentic Furisode.

The only full Kimono I know of is the Optitex Dynamic one for the Gen4 females.
I like Mei Lin because she seems to be very versatile, almost like V4, with her 'neutral' looks. Her body proportions are good; she doesn't come with funny long legs and a small head like Lilith (though I like this figure too, and changing these proportions is easy). I am seeing Asian faces every day, and to me she looks definitely Asian. Mei Lin may be a character for the second sight: She won my heart only after I installed her. Just thought to give her a try.
I bought only the figure, no bundle, because I have enough Asian Princess and Martial Arts stuff. There is very good looking hair in the bundles, but this I'll buy later. I agree, it is annoying to have new figures with new UVs every five minutes, but if you buy only clothes or accessories which fit to all G2F or G2M figures, it is ok.
However: I would very much like to see D6!
I'm loving the new character. I was never a fan of the cartoon like Aiko, so I've never bought any of her bundles. I picked up the Pro Bundle for Mei Lin this time. You'd think with the release of Mei Lin that Lee 6 would have gone back on promo pricing, not Lilith. Now that I have the Mei Lin Pro bundle, I wouldn't mind pairing her up with Lee 6.
I guess we also have to wait for DAZ to release the HD Add-On too. Too bad DAZ still double-dips with that. How long do you think it'll be before all characters are natively HD? Gen 7?
Same here!
That one needs to be timeline draped even if you use it on V4, so workflow to use it on G2F is pretty much the same, just parent to chest before running the simulation instead of conforming.

I made the promos for the Poser version.. it's pretty much a bear to work with but the results are worth it in the end.

...It kept crashing my old system, but then again as it was only 32 bit, I had so little memory to work with Haven't pulled it out since. Does it work properly with the dynamic controls built into 4.6 or do I need the 50$ dynamic plugin?
I don't honestly know for sure as I used it in Poser.. It should work but it'll be more ornery without having the internal pressure available.
..."internal pressure" not sure what that means. Sounds like something that isn't covered by the "lite" version of the Daz dynamic controls as I never saw any setting relating to that in my tests. Not into sinking 50$ into the full control plugin as I have only three Optitex products (besides the free dynamic sheet & flag) and am hoping Daz5 will finally have it's on version of an "open ended" cloth room.
I have PoserPro 2012, but not the Poser version of the Kimono.
Load the Kimono into DS by itself, export it as .obj, set the scale to Poser. Import .obj into Poser and clothify. There is some extra tweaking to the cloth perimeters in Poser, and of course the Poser material files.. but you know enough to work with it.
