Hang up! There's a scam going on nationwide. They claim that you owe a lot and ask for an account number or for you to transfer fines online. It's not them.

Broccoli, Zucchini , I'd rather have a weenie,
Eggplant and Lentils, making me go mental!
Let's go down to a nice Bistro
We'll get there fast and then we'll eat real slow
    At a nice Bistro...

great news on the ham, Troutface!! I absolutely *love* ham for leftovers - it is so versatile to do different things with so you don't get tired of it.

Leftover turkey is my next fave - I am in absolute heaven with turkey sandwiches (not the lunchmeat kind - the leftover bird sort, bits and pieces)! Toast the bread, a dab of mayo (or whatever) and a sprinkle of pepper and instant tummy happiness!

non-complaint: the local Winn-Dixie (food supermarket for those outside of the region) now has its own brand of iced coffee mocha in the dairy section - and it is soooo much better than the 'named' brands!

complaint: forgot to get hot cocoa at the store (just did a quick dash in for tea and bread)!

lentils are complicated, comes in colors

thinking of all the ways to prep a veggie

    raw
    boiled
    simmered
    sizzled
    steamed
    baked
    broiled
    nuked
    fried
    deepfried

is they fresher bought frozen? assuming frozed the same day they picked
or fresher in the produce aisle? who knows how far they traveled.

heard the freshest brocolli is a purplish color crown
is the brocolli vitamins in the crown or the stem?

my bus passes a Traderjoes, won't be able to carry much though. too far for a reasonable taxi fare heavy sigh

If they are frozen as soon as they're harvested, I'd say they're fresher. What's in the markets, with a few exceptions, is from Mexico, Chile, Honduras or even further away...where they also don't have as stringent controls, so who knows what they use on them?

The dark green parts of veggies are usually the most nutritioun-packed part I think.

    Dana

healing starts with pumpkin pie :)

i tried to talk lentils with a few people today, lentils are not popular

...used to have a Winn Dixie down the street on Napoleon Ave in New Orleans when I lived there. Gone now. What I liked was K&B Drugs, they not only sold beer and wine under their own label, but whiskey too,

..all this talk about New Orleans. Used to be a regular at Pat O'Brien's down on Rue St Peter (next to Preservation Hall). They were the originators of the Hurricane drink.

They celebrated their 70th anniversary two yeas ago. Almost went down there.

Ahh, the old "digs" (the apartment building next to what used to be a fire station which is now a restaurant) about 30 paces down Napoleon from St Charles. Many fond memories. Total rent for the two bedroom I had was 135$/month. Bet it's a lot more now.

Found out that the college pub "Fat Harry's" (the building on the corner) is still in business (we used to call it "Frat Harry's")

...well just learned short while ago that the old cinema palace I used to go to as a kid back in Milwaukee WI has not only finally been restored but will reopen again to show films on a regular basis.

The Avalon Theatre, located in the Bay View district south of Downtown was one of five of what were referred to as "atmospheric" cinemas in the city. Designed to give the audience the feeling they were sitting in an outside courtyard the main auditorium was designed with different architectural elements like colonnades and structural facades while the ceiling mimicked an open sky with projected clouds and twinkling stars. the lights were dimmed slowly before the feature film started to impart the impression of evening turning into night. Very few examples of this type of cinema are still in operation remain in North America. It was also one of the first cinemas of the day to actually be designed with a sound system from it's inception as well as having the usual Wurlitzer organ.

Over the last ten years there have been several unsuccessful attempts to revive the old cinema that was built in the 1920s solely for the purpose of showing films rather than catering to vaudeville and it looked very likely it's fate would fall to the wrecking ball.

I can still remember spending many a Friday evening and Saturday afternoon sitting "under the stars" with popcorn (that had real butter) and soda in hand to watch the latest release or double bill adventure matinee.

If I ever travel back there, I'll have to take the time nd make it a point to stop in to relive an experience I thought was long gone.
