Hey Guys, I'm sure everyone has covered this issue. I had this problem and I simply dialed down the "Glossiness." That point may have been made several times already; didn't read every post. Thanks for the input -- the dialogue here is what led to my solution.
...with older 3DL hairs that are converted to Iray either by using the default Iray Uber shader or Slosh's UHT2, I found I had to increase the cutout opacity otherwise it can look like the character is suffering from hair loss due to radiation exposure.
Setting the SSS value in the hair surface to 0 often solves the issue (white sparks/noise in the render) for me.
I assume this issue was caused by one of the more recent Iray updates/adjustments so the PAs did not encounter such white sparks when the created the material files.
