Thank You, Slosh, for the great Holiday Gift!

Slosh, I am thrilled to receive your Holiday Gift of Kids 4 UVs for Genesis 2 Male(s) and Female(s)!

I stayed up hours past my bedtime to play with it. I haven't tried the morphs yet. That will have to wait until tomorrow. I used your product to put Josi for Kids 4 on an adult G2F. I used the AoA subsurface Shader to put a little more life into that old skin. Here she is in the Super Dress that Dogz recently updated.

I'd like to thank Slosh too. I've been grinding away at a commercial project for some weeks now, peppered with tiny signs from the universe that I'm on the right track. Yesterday it became clear to me that Zev0's wonderful 'Growing Up' morphs weren't going to be quite enough for the kids needed by the project, as there are going to be more of them than I anticipated and they all need to look quite different. I spent an hour or two reading up on Kids 4 and purchased them, along with several textures, and immediately set to work. I eventually crawled off to bed, happy that I'd made more progress but very much missing the Genesis mob that I've become so used to.

The first thing I saw when I logged on this morning were the Kids 4 UVs for G2. If that's not a massive sign from the universe then I don't know what is :) And free, too :) Thank you so much, Slosh - you can't imagine how timely and very much appreciated this one is here. Merry Christmas!

Even I picked them up. I've had my own K4 UV's for a while now, but they were a custom job, and a rather slipshod one at that to be honest. Some things are best left to the professionals, so I've 'updated' to Slosh's version, which tidies up some of the texture stretching present in my originals.

    Good job, Slosh.

I too would like to thank Slosh for the gift. I'm a bit puzzled though, typically in past years there would be a 24 Days of Christmas or Christmas Countdown or like last year I believed they called it "PA Giveaway!" which would be a thread here in the commons that had a new giveaway item each day from different PA's each day all the way up until Christmas. Are they not doing that this year? I ask because I bet a lot of the customers grabbing this wonderful gift from Slosh will not be saying thanks just because they see it as another freebie that Daz routinely puts up. In the Christmas countdown/giveaways threads after each new days gift tons of people would thank the PA for their gift. It just seems this way that Slosh will miss out on a lot of gratitude.

    Edit:

Ah I see now, they're doing it more in the store as the Daily HolliDaz Freebies where each item is available for 2 days. I guess that's better since everyone in the forum is likely to have a store account but not everyone with a store account necessarily participates in the forums. Still I'm going to miss the old countdown threads as they had become as much a part of my Holiday traditions as decorating the tree or listening to Christmas Carols on the stereo. I still say the generosity of the PA's will receive less gratitude this way though.

I especially like that it's compatible with G2M as well as G2F. Simply copying the UV maps doesn't always give desirable results. Here's a render I put together using my favourite K4 skin on G2F (right). It's Kaelyn for K4. I've also used Generation X2 to convert the basic child and Kaelyn morphs to G2F, with a little of the Growing Up morphs used as well.

The boy in the background on the left is G2M using K4 skins while the other two children are using Brodie and Belle skins and morphs mixed with youth morph. Kaelyn is wearing the recently updated Super Dress V2 and leggings. The doll she's holding is also using Slosh's 'dolled up' textures.

Damn, that was SO BADLY NEEDED. Thank you, Slosh. By the way, where is a thread devoted to highlighting the shinies that will be given away, huh? Because if there is no such thread, we must start one.

Thank you, Slosh for your wonderful gift. {{{{Hugs}}}} I have a question on how to use these. Do you load the K4 first then apply them. I
tried to load the Gen 2 Male and clicked on the files but they did not fit, as the Gen 2 male was too big. Could someone who has used the files maybe tell us that don't know how to use them, what we need to do to use them. Do I first apply the generations files to make the Gen 2
a 10 yr old, then apply these. Sorry for all the questions but I would love to do a Gen 2 child using these so that I may use them in Iclone.
Big Hugs to anyone who can help. Tspirit

Does this note from the store product page help? If not ask again and tell us the name of the file you are trying to apply that you are having trouble with.

    Please Note:

As with all Generation 4 Textures being used on Genesis 2 Male or Genesis 2 Female, you will need to first apply the materials to The Kids 4 or Genesis, then save a new .DUF Material Preset.
V4 Skins Auto Converter for Genesis 2 Female(s) from DraagonStorm can do the conversions for you if you want to convert more than one at a time.

That's a great image of the kids at school. It look so real. I like the little boy in the background sizing himself up with the chart. That Super Dress looks good on kids, too.

Big Hugs to anyone who can help. TspiritFirst things first. You'll need to either load in K4 or Genesis. K4 recommended, since it has all the material zones, but Genesis will work fine too. Apply the texture you want to the model directly. If you're using Genesis, set the UV option in the surfaces to "Kids 4" to save you time later.

Once done, File -> Save As -> Materials Preset. Call it something memorable like "Kaelyn for Genesis" or whatever. You have now saved it as a DUF file which can be loaded directly onto G2M and G2F.

If you used K4, there's an extra step which should be made and that's to set the UV option in the surfaces for Genesis 2 to "Kids 4" as you would have done with Genesis. If you like, you can save this new preset over the old one to save time for future uses.

Thanks. I haven't done many proper images in a while, so I thought it was time I started. I did a little research to get the right light colour for fluorescent lights. The only thing I was disappointed with was the lack of good shadows coming from the window to the left, despite my best efforts.

HoF, I have been particularly anticipating your assessment of this gift. I didn't notice you mention using the two custom kid morphs I made... Did you not see them, or did you not like them? Just curious.

I'm happy this is being received so well. It brought a smile to my face reading your comments. Don't forget to thank DAZ as well for letting me give away the UVs for free. I'm working on an Autofit for the clothing, but the shoes are giving me problems (as usual). I don't think the autofit will be free, but once I'm finished, I will likely bundle the autofit with the UVs and do some more realistic head morphs and a kindergartener and toddler. The price for that will be reasonable, I promise.

Grabbed it and can't wait to try it! :cheese: This is something I would have gladly paid for, so I'm very thankful to Slosh for the gift, and to DAZ for making it happen. I'll be looking forward to the forthcoming morph and AutoFit product too.

Autofit for K4 clothing on Genesis 2 sounds great. There are lots of K4 outfits available. Dogz recently released Mary Janes, which work great on G2 girls made with Growing Up. They even come with cute ruffled socks. So I'm eager for autofit, even if K4 shoes aren't perfect.

They are adorable, so a huge thanks for the early christmas present! I noticed that they don't use the Growing Up morphs either, so anyone who hasn't already purchased it can still benefit from adding a little youth to Genesis 2. The romper gets a little bit distorted, but it's nothing too major.

Looks like I have another two reasons to love this set. Thanks again!

Yeah, those shoes are absolutely adorable and work wonders on Growing Up, and also on Slosh's own Girl base morph (pictured). I picked them up on release day along with its expansion set. Finding shoes for kids is always an interesting challenge, so buying these little darlings was a no brainer.

Now I just need more boys clothes. Aside from fantasy wear, there's very little normal wear for men, and even fewer items which work well on youths.

Dogz recently issued a free update to the Super Dress which added FBMs for new DAZ characters. Maybe Slosh will update the romper to support his new morphs. Hint Hint, Slosh, that would be great :)

    Yes, good point. Thanks, DAZ!

Any kind of autofit would be lovely too, you could even not mind the shoes, they always give terrible distortions. If you can scale them, put under the feet and parent, then you have any chances.

Don't celebrate just yet, your next kid-friendly outfit is going to want morphs for that toddler now. As well as the kindergartner too! :)

The autofit is another goodie I'd love to get my hands on. Again, I do have an autofit for K4 which works for most shirts, leggings and a few shoes, but it's a very rough job and it's always nice to have a professional polish to these things. My problem is there is literally zero documentation on clone figures, so everything I know about them is self-taught from playing around. Presumably there's a science to it, but my squishy brain can't fathom it out from tinkering alone.

So, another item to add to my basket when it comes out. I think I own at least half Slosh's store by now!

I have actually. It's what my K4 clone is based on. The issue is that there's little to no information on how the final shape of the clone figure affects clothes fitted to Genesis. It does a serviceable job, as seen below, but it's nowhere near perfect. Due to how it's created, it's also certainly not distributable.

I intentionally used a dress in the example to show some of the troubles the clone has. The shoes and tights were also K4 originals as well, part of the sweetheart dress set. To evidence that this is actually G2F, I'm using Slosh's morph along with Gingersnaps HD elements and the Belle texture set.

I posted numerous times to ask if anyone had ideas or solutions to solve it, but there were few replies, and fewer constructive ones. In the end, I gave up. Here's hoping Slosh can solve what I could not :)

    Greetings,
Interesting; I specifically returned that dress because of how badly it 'autofit' (to Genesis at the time) and I have to remind myself that I did every time I see it. Sickleyield has a bunch of fixer tools which might help, but as I said, I returned that one, so I can't test them on it.

I'm really here to chime in with huge thanks to Slosh and DAZ for this! I've mostly incidentally ended up with a number of very nice looking K4 textures, and I'm happy to be able to use them on G2* kids now!

I take it you don't have K4 to use it on then? I bought the dress a long time ago when Poser was my tool and K4 my figure of choice. Whenever I want to use the dress, I just dust off K4 and put it to good use.

It's an older figure, but I've still got a soft spot for it even for current gen work.

How did you create your K4 clone? If you have GenX2 and the gen2 add-on pack, you can create a very good clone in 10 mins or so. Here is the clone in action fitting Cowpokes for K4 to G2F. The only issue I see is the toes of the boots look a bit squeezed.

    Greetings,

I take it you don't have K4 to use it on then? I bought the dress a long time ago when Poser was my tool and K4 my figure of choice. Whenever I want to use the dress, I just dust off K4 and put it to good use.

It's an older figure, but I've still got a soft spot for it even for current gen work.I do have K4, I bought several of the Gen4 sets under the theory that they would be necessary in one way or another for GenX'ing and UV converting and stuff like that. I started with Genesis, so I just absolutely, completely, loathe working with the Gen4 characters. It drives me nuts. Maybe the kids would be better, since there's not much morphing difference from one kid to another, so fitting items won't be as agonizing. Every time I tried to do anything interesting with V4, it just...well, it was pretty darn bad, and frustrating, and I knew that if I just stopped fighting the app and used Genesis it'd be better. So back then I just punted when I found something that didn't autofit with a damn.

How did you create your K4 clone? If you have GenX2 and the gen2 add-on pack, you can create a very good clone in 10 mins or so. Here is the clone in action fitting Cowpokes for K4 to G2F. The only issue I see is the toes of the boots look a bit squeezed.

Look at the flat zone in the center-front of the skirt. That flat zone is not there in the original object. That's one of the big problems autofitting stuff from K4 to Genesis. It can be really bad, and while it doesn't look horrific in yours, that's because you have a flat color. Add some kind of texture to that, and it goes from looking bad to abysmal.

As I said, I *think* some of SY's awesome fixer tools can work magic on that, but I'm not completely sure. I think it has something to do with what part of the weight-map the points end up being assigned to follow, and how they're somehow not being distributed between, but rather just allocated to one side or the other, and that leaves a big gap in the middle that stretches the few/single poly in the middle where points have been handed off to one side or the other.

I don't know if it's worse for K4 stuff, but I've typically avoided getting K4 stuff after my bad experience with the Sweetheart dress.

But all this is off-topic from Slosh's awesomeness. :)

Yes you are right, but I believe this is an issue with many auto-fitted skirts and tunics, particularly when the characters legs are posed apart, causing the fabric to stretch and the texture to distort. You get this on some items that are original made for genesis 1/2 as well.

True, but thanks to his generosity, getting K4 characters, including skins, to Genesis 2 has become much easier, and as a consequence auto-fitting K4 clothes is now more desirable.
