New Jay Versluis Webinar

We've been told that Jay Versluis is going to give another webinar this Saturday (at 4PM EDT), like the one he gave for Season Pass holders but this one will be open to all. It's going to use content from the Fred 8.1 Rise to Fame Bundle (the techniques will no doubt be applicable to any content - however. there will be a discount on the bundle for those who want to follow exactly). You should be getting an email with the details, but we know some of you aren't getting them for some reason.

The webinar is going to use the Talk Show set to show techniques for interior lighting, using camera angles for narrative effect, and using tools like Puppeteer to get the right expression. If time permits there may also be some live Q&A at the end.

Please, will there be a recorded version for those of us who are unable to attend at that time?

  • If it was like the last one for super elite SP members, it'll be hosted on YouTube, and it should be accessible afterwards.

The last one was definitely useful.

Thanks so much for letting us know what it will be about and giving some details!

    Yes, I am told.

Thanks, Richard, for both; the OP and the clarification. I Will watch the recorded version later to see if the webinars of Jay Versluis are indeed better than the normal fare DAZ Productions offers for free.

Jay has always been good at doing tutorials and answering questions, trust me on that cause I am always asking him questions and he pretty much has the patience of a saint when he explains things, he also does not hide any mistakes, as that can also prove to be valuable information. As far as I know all his video's are either done and stay one YouTube or he streams on twitch and has been known to upload those to YouTube.

And here's the link to the event, it's on Daz' channel, not Jays.

I just got my invitation email which included a discount coupon for the Fred 8.1 Rise to Fame Bundle. However, I already purchased the bundle for about $11 more than it would now cost me with the extra discount.

Is Jay the WIP video guy who takes 45 minutes to explain something that could be explained in 10?   ;)   I'll watch the stream though, he's nice and knows what he's doing (if we're talking about the same guy).

It was nice to get an invitation. I fear though, that I learn best from the written word, and almost nothing at all from lectures and video.
  • Well, the last one for the super elite SP bourgeoisie was also good because we had a chat window going alongside the webinar during the live broadcast. It was useful stuff, and kind of fun to interact with other Daz addicts.

Yes, he is the guy from the WP Guru YT channel. I just noticed it as I received the email invitation and recognized him.
I rarely watch his videos at the moment — although the content is indeed mostly good — because I sadly lack time to watch lengthy videos with essentially 10 minutes of real content.
But yes, he seems to be a very nice guy, and his community is also a nice bunch.

It would not let me into the webinar last time time because I did not have a google account, I do not expect to be able to view it this time eighter for the same reason.

Definitely knows what he's talking about. He may take a bit longer because he includes the gotchas and doesn't pull any attitudes I get from some.

Dear Daz. Can you, please, think of the people living very far from your time zone?

It would be most helpful, if you could add the + or - difference from UTC in hours to all your times.

    Thank you.

  • LOL... so the thing says "Don’t forget that you’re invited to a live webinar this Saturday, 4 PM EST with the one and only Jay Versluis!"

Currently, we are in Daylight time, and the current time on the East Coast is "Eastern Daylight Time" (EDT), which is not the same as EST relative to UTC/GMT.

    EST is UTC/GMT -5.

    EDT is UTC/GMT -4.

So, it it's 4PM EST, then it's UTC -5. If it's actually supposed to be 4PM EDT, then it's UTC -4.

Could we please get a clarification from DAZ. All the DAZ ads and promos  state that it is 4PM Eastern Standard Time (EST); but clicking on the go to webinar link gives a start time of 4PM Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). Plus all the locations in the Eastern Time Zone are currently on Daylight Savings time; so there maybe a typo in specifying standard time.

Yes, the start time comapred to now looks like EDT rather than EST. I have flagged it up.

When I go to the video it has a little black box at the bottom left of the screen telling me how long to go until it's live and what time it will start in my time zone (UK)

Loved the webinar Jay. I hope they become a regular PC or free Daz feature.

Yes, I hope it’s a FREE regular feature for all. I wasn’t expecting much but found it helpful and discovered several little tips and tricks I was not aware of. I just wish there was an actual MANUAL. Whenever I see some new tips in the forum, I copy/paste it in a Notes section on my iPad/phone. During a YouTube video, I have to take my phone camera and quickly take a photo of the computer screen. On the Mac it’s easy to take a screenshot but I haven’t figured out a quick way on the PC though. I guess I could watch simultaneously on my iPad and take quick screenshots there (too small to watch full video) but I really wish there was an actual MANUAL with all the ADVANCED and HIDDEN features of DS! (As well as Jay’s videos.)

Yes, several useful tips. The maths thing was great to learn! The webinar was greatly appreciated, as was Jay who was hosting it.

  • Hello,

I was really blown away by the puppeteer expression technique. This reminded me of this product:
    https://www.daz3d.com/emotion-wheel-expressions-for-genesis-8-female
with the significant difference that you can do it in "real time" and with much finer details.

    Best regards

I liked the event. I recorded it with OBS but only too late realized that my mic was open and it recorded me eating some chips during one segment of the tutorial blush. I wasn't planning on sharing it anywhere, but it's still annoying because it makes it less enjoyable to listen to later. Oh well. At least I could still hear Jay talking in the recording.

It was nice to learn about puppeteer, the filament draw options node, and all those handy shortcuts. I really hope they do more of these in the future.

I mainly use Puppeteer like the old "pose dots" in Poser, they're great for quickly saving positions or values while you keep working and then comparing them to decide which you like best. You can also set your own icons for the dots like Zev0 did for his 200 Shaping Morph Puppeteer set.

Yeah I hope DAZ has more streams like that soon, it helps get important and useful tips across to more users and shows that Studio is actually a very competent program with good features.

Thanks for the excellent tutorial. I've been using DS for many years, and still learned so much.

Yes, this kind of thing is the best kind of advert for Daz as a 3D solution, so I hope they make more of these free. I'm sure many people are put off getting into Daz because of the lack of comprehensive manual and in-depth tutorials. Today's webinar not only educated current users, it demonstrated the program to those considering getting into it (and I like that because the more people that get into Daz, the more money will be put into developing it).

I also wanted to give a particular shout out to Jay as I have watched quite a lot of Daz tutorials and generally find them a low return on my time and sometimes just painful. Jay was not only informative but fun to watch (he was clearly enjoying himself). I'm now watching his other videos on YouTube (The WP Guru) and lapping them up. Daz should definitely give the guy a regular gig. It's just such a good way to advertise Daz (perhaps also do edited down versions with informative overlays).

There should be a PrtScr (Print Screen) button - on laptops it's often on a standard key and requires a function button to be pressed. Addinf the Alt key limits it to the active window
