Why is everything so expensive?

Over the past few years, prices at DAZ have almost doubled. What is the reason for that???

New management. Check out the Ceo on Linkedin.
His resume bragging rights include increasing profit by like 200% while not adding a single extra employee.
That's cool... did he clone them or... oh... I see.
I don't see it, but then again I shop all 3d stores and not just the ones in this community.
nearly everything in the store goes on sale at one point or another. I am honestly surprised PAs can make any money doing this
He increased the size of the management whips

Yes, I was wondering about that. Every time I fill in a CS ticket for sales it get's answered by Gunnar, I have the feeling he is the only guy there and totally swamped. Does anyone else share that impression?
Considering 100 copies of a product sold is considered a success, I agree.
Poor Gunnar. I thought we got assigned people who handle all cases from a certain number of customers. The person who handled my store credit was different, but every other time I think it's been Gunnar.
I think if you aren't making a living, and you release a statement to that effect and explain to people that the company was struggling and that you need to raise prices, you will get a lot of support. But if you just start raising prices, reducing content, and dropping QA, you are going to make people upset.
It's just like dealing with a person. If someone you know suddenly starts acting differently, and it's negatively affecting you, and they don't explain why, you will of course be curious. If they don't explain, you will probably then be miffed.
That's why I think Daz's lack of transparency is so ill-advised. They try to erase the past instead of owning up to mistakes. Can you imagine a friend trying to delete all the emails where they said something wrong? Your opinion of them would fall if it hadn't been low already.
I also want to add that getting upset when you feel you can't trust someone is a biological survival trait. It's not overreacting to get upset when someone doesn't follow through on a deal or changes the rules after you agree to it. For Daz, this usually comes in the form of "Oh, the rules are this but that wasn't mentioned earlier," but they do also straight-up change the rules from time to time, like with who could enter the season pass contest. That's just an example, but other times they've done this have undoubtedly been more upsetting. I mean, come on. Coupons and banners without expirations that disappear after one day?
Edit: Obviously, I'm not too upset. I still spend a lot of money here. But my opinion of Daz is not what it used to be.
Well, I have compared being a Daz customer to being in a Sadomasochistic relationship in the past, still feel that holds true. I also feel Daz looks at us as a bunch of annoying kids that should spent their money with them but stay out of their business.
Man. I just want to make pretty pictures. Sometimes things aren't ideal and you deal with it because of your goals, and I accept that. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't strive to make things better for everyone.
I agree, i feel that way too.
In all fairness, prices are much higher on some of the other stores I visit. However, those stores also have a much deeper catalog of free stuff to draw customers in.
I find it to be the exact opposite, half the store is on sale practically every day, quality is still way better than the other major store, and prices are low compared to the Unreal Marketplace save one sale near the end of the month.
sounds like an Angel episode.
upper management.
senior partners.
Spend enough time on the forums and you'll start to feel that way as well. I feel most businesses look at customers that way. I work in retail management and I look at every customer as the possible next entitled shopper that is going to proceed to tell me how things should be when they have no clue what goes on with the company or the business I work in.....and it gets worse every day. Granted the majority of customers are great and I love helping them out, but there are those ones that make it bad for everyone else.
IMO CS turn around times are just plainly bad too put it mildly, one of the most visited thread is about what is going wrong with sales that day every day, customers have been complaining a long time about products not being in order,....well,....you've all read it yourself as well. I mean, I cannot imagine a job where that level of perfomance would be seen as acceptable by an organization. You get the customer you deserve in the end I believe.
This is not having a go at you, I guess in retail customer escalations are part of the job in retail management, makes sense you get the worst sample of customers in front of you.
Having worked in retail, I am firmly of the opinion that the world would be a much better place if everyone was required to work in retail for a year. Also popping into a shop 30 seconds before it closes and because you've got your foot in the door trying to spend the next 20 minutes shopping should be a capital crime
I often wonder whether anyone actually buys at full price here? Sooner or later it will be on sale. If you are even more patient it will be on sale at a big discount. I'm patient, I wait. I have never upgraded to the latest generation of figures at least until the prices of the clothes for them start to appear on sale. Indeed, I have never upgraded to G8M although I was quite eager to get G8F.
I spend much more money with DAZ than I do with the other store but I like the way the other store runs their sales (uncomplicated and we know exactly when the sale will end). Unfortunately there are only a very few of their artists that appeal to me. The best of them seem to gravitate here anyway.
Back when I first started spending money here, yes. The memory is painful now. So maybe noobs? On the flip side, paying attention to the sales is pretty time-consuming, so there's also that. Some people make quite a bit per hour. I wonder if it's worth it to them. I also saw someone mention on Reddit that the prices at Rendo are cheaper.... which makes me wonder if they were shopping the sales at all. Because I will often pay less for something here than something similar at Rendo, even when it is also on sale. I love that Rendo sales are simple, but the resulting discount, my budget, and the free time I have means I mostly shop here.
My impression is that half the people we knew who contributed to DO's and the software and the talent wrangling are GONE.
...I feel the same concerning restaurants having managed one myself (and I was a working manager out there all shift alongside my crew, not a "desk jockey" telling people what to do). Yeah, you really develop a healthy amount of empathy and respect for these workers who cook, serve, and clean up after you when you see it from the other side of the line.
I had my own adage, "the customer is only right if they have a legitimate concern that needs attention and don't make an arse of themselves."
+1. And that's not a good impression.
I complain about DAZ sometimes but no other 3D content store, not Turbo Squid, not Unity, not UE4, not Rendo comes even close to DAZ's content, pricing, and quality. It's a huge, huge gap between them and the others really. However, I am liking that I've bought so much now that I have the luxury of being picky and buying some of the niche PA stuff that costs more. I still wait til it's on sale though.
No wonder Gunnar is totally swamped, poor guy.
Normally I don't write a lot here for lack of my knowledge of English sadly, but rather I read everything because I'm able to decode what I read luckily, so let me try to write what I think, because the question "why is everything so expensive" sounds interesting for my ears.
First of all, I agree to most of the statements above. My personal impression is, that prices are rising, but this is just my opinion and primarily a common behaviour in capitalism and it is also true, a lot in the store goes on sale at one point or another, but not everything or usually only very dated or bad selling products, at least not in a timely fashion, e.g. a lot of products remain in my wishlist since years, either they never goes on sale or I just can't buy it for a descent price. I think most of the time it depends on what is the discount you are looking for and what is the time frame for this where you are willing to wait and to buy something... and last but not least, all depends on why do you want or need a certain product.
Well, I buy products since 2008 here at Daz and bought nearly 7'700 products since then from the Daz store alone and twice as much from other stores as well.
A good solution to avoid high-priced items would be discipline! E.g. in order that I'm willing to buy something from the Daz store, a discount has to be 75% off in minimum and I buy exclusively from my wishlist and completely fade out all the other advertisments, offers etc. 50% off or 60% off is no option for me, because I need thousands of products for movie projects and I'm not able to afford high-priced products, because I'm not called Jeff Bezos. Every customer has his own requirements and perceptions what is a reasonable price for a product. I deleted hundreds of products from my wishlist already because of this and these are lost sales for Daz and the PA's sadly.
I'm sorry if that hurts someone, but I don't care if PA's or Daz3d can make a living from selling their products, since no PA or Daz would ever care about if I can make a living as well. That's business and so called reality and not virtuality, but from an artists perspective other reasons may be more important.
In Feb. 2012 Matt Willburn from Tafi (Daz3D) wrote at LinkedIn the following:
Daz3D is a leading marketplace for 3D software and content. Since Matt joined Daz3D, revenue has tripled and EBITDA has improved from -50% to 20%+. Daz 3D has paid professional artists $100 million dollars in its 'freemium' revenue-sharing content model and makes the creation of 3D art and animation accessible to millions of customers.
This was in 2012! ...and today? Oh well! Why should I care about the revenue of Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk... do you know what I mean or is it just aweful what I wrote (and what I think)?
Same, I don't see it either, but I don't shop as much as I used to. I used to be quite an addict.

As for making money, it's the quantity. Sell something for 100's of dollars and sell one or just a few, or for 5-20 dollars and sell hundreds or thousands.
Yeah, the sales are basic marketing. They create a sense of urgency as the sale price is for only so long. Those of us that are seasoned shoppers, even knowing that something shiny will go back on sale at some point the question is when? What if it's not on sale when I need it?
Did you ever say that to a customer?
I have not raised my prices on products in a long time.......but the amount of work that goes into products and the amount of options included has gone way up.
