Probably says as much about market forces and marketing schemes. I remember some decades ago in the UK a furniture retail chain was known for having permanent "sales". There was some scandal about them artificially inflating prices and displaying the bed or lounge suite at that price for one day at one store and then, in the whole chain of stores, advertising these items at a "huge discount".
I am late to the party again, I hardly ever come into the daz forums anymore i've been hanging out in the AWN forums so I just seen this thread and thought I throw my 2 cent in it will properly be removed anyway one of the reasons I don't post here much anymore.
I stopped upgrading my Daz studio software & buying DAZ content about a year ago. with daz 4.12 I only purchase that what is needed for a commissioned project that works in my version of daz studio that the client will purchase for me to use. other wise I don't shop here anymore for reasons I won't disclose in the daz forum.
But there is a few things to remember that will drive the 3d market prices. the demand for the 3D content & assets, the higher demand, the greater the price all the 3D stores will try to get, next- then add in state taxes( which is around 10 % for me) ,then the lack of choices or competition in the 3d market places for daz studio content, which all contribute to the prices of content here at daz.
The assets at daz cost what they cost and all the complaining in the world is not going to change a thing. if ya don't like the price then pass on it or learn to use a software that will use other file formats other than DUF.
To make real changes as a consumer, people have to speak with with their wallets. that is all any company understands now days. when people buy less products , then the stores have more sales and deals to entice you to buy their crap.
I won't advise anyone where to shop for daz 3d assets. daz is pretty proprietary with their DUF file formats and it takes a magic trick to get most other 3d assets into daz studio working. daz and poser compatibility have been broken for years so that market has now gone to renderosity. along with the competition for mixed content. in Obj and fxb formats for poser and blender. how ever good or bad that maybe. So if people are going to invest in just daz studios DUF file format assets, then this is the price you pay for it. But if you can use & work with FXB or .obj content your choice's for less costly 3d content opens up widely & many a greater options for 3d assets, many of which are free . So there's your trade off. the format you want to use.
But if a person was looking for 3d assets for game development. then a place like Artstation dot com, is more game devolvement friendly asset store with direct FXB and low poly Game ready models and assets in Obj and Blend file formats sold by free lace artist. usually at a fairly reasonable price. But most of their stuff is for people in the game development & 3D film & animation industry. so they properly will not be to interested in selling daz duf content anyway. 3d developers are moving away from iray. because the hardware is getting to expensive & hard to find.
If you search long enough there are other places other than Daz3d.com for 3d assets. But if people are set on only using daz studio duf files. then your stuck paying the price that daz3d.com charges for the DUF format products. its daz niche in the world.
Well, I think everything has been previously said, but, I fully support this statestement from Ivy and on top of that, I completely ignore all the promos if it says: "When you buy this..." or "when buy any of these to get those..." or "Get an Extra % off when you buy 2 or more...", etc. These kind of sales doesn't work for me, because it forces me to buy stuff I don't want and on top of that I have to pay more for products I really wanted with these consciously confusing mixed calculations and sales techniques.
An example will clarify what I mean, I have to buy something I don't want for 30% off in order to get something I really wanted for 70% off means 30% off + 70% off = I got 50% off instead of 70% off for something I wanted or in other words, I paid the full price for the item I wanted and got something I didn't wanted for free at best or in other word again DAZ sold two items instead of only one item and at an exorbitant price. A clever move, but on the other hand that's business how it works of course and if you like it, ultimately everyone has to decide for themselves and as Ivy said all the complaining in the world is not going to change a thing, at least most of the time...lol
I'm the same way, I just ignore all those types of promotions.
It's only if I notice something I like and will be buying, then I may go back and see if the offers are beneficial, they don't influence my decision to purchase in the first place. So most times they're just clutter to be ignored.
sorry, I don't get it. What is expensive Given the effort into details DAZ Studio and Poser products are rather cheap at an average high quality level. sometimes at a top notch high quality level.
Just consider this without its discount:

Something you don't want is always too expensive, probably free is too expensive, regardless the price tag and has nothing to do with the amount of work that goes into products, with the exception that someone like to collect everything solely because it exists or became produced.
This little excursion does seem to illustrate that the thread has now run its course and is starting to go in circles. All views have been comprehensively aired, so it is being locked.
