Shader Mixer Iray or 3delight?...or both?
I actually do have a free tutorial on rigging articulated props with Figure Setup!
youtube.com/watch?v=vNFHv8K8qKg&t=1s
I was going to protest that I have a clothing rigging tutorial, too, but it looks like my old deviantart one's pretty outdated and doesn't cover the Figure Setup method. I will do my best to make that my next free thing. :)
How to model armor for G8M, get it set up to wear, etc. I have a couple very specific pieces that I need, namely a breastplate and a decorative arm piece (so I guess that's really more jewelry), that I haven't been able to kitbash together because the closest existing options are for female figures. I do freely share plenty of garments between the male and female figures, but taking soft materials through the breast-to-chest conversion is bad enough and rigid materials are just... yeah, it's not pretty. When you can't even dial in a flat-chest morph on the female figure a piece was designed for to reduce the boob cups without horrible distortion, changing the figure's sex entirely is a no-go. In theory the breastplate isn't a complocated model, although tit does have two layers I'd like to be able to shift independently for realism. But, I also want to learn how to make it remain rigid and behave like metal even if it ends up crossing into another bone's control area.
I'm deeply intimidated by 3D modeling, and terrible at sculpting both in real and digital space. I've tangled with Blender and it was a disaster, and while I have Arki's Submerged Inside Hexagon series (and the other ones for clothing and hair wishlisted), I haven't had the courage to watch it; plus it doesn't address armor, although that's not a complaint. I bought it knowing that and hope to learn a lot from it! The geografting section will be extremely useful, I think.
I've been attempting to teach myself very basic rigging and weight mapping with a bunch of grapes that I need to put into a bowl, but so far it's... not going smoothly. On that note, how to shade a grape so that it looks correct in Iray. They have such a complex conjunction of attributes and if even one is off they look totally wrong, not to mention FARINA...
Also how to get skin not to look like garbage (I've read so many tutorials, tried so many utilities, tinkered so much, and it just never looks right). Especially how to get darker skin tones to look realistic rather than flat, waxy, plastic, etc. Just how the shaders work better in general, really. Also how to light stuff and not have it look awful.
How to actually build good SSS maps and the like for skin. I've seen people describe how to do it but have trouble translating the written words into practical application.
How on god's green earth to make dForce do what I want it to do. I've read descriptions of the different settings and experimented but honestly, I still have trouble getting things to drape naturally (reminds me I need to check the weight mapping on a gown I bought because one part just will. not. fall. down. and I have to use the G3 version because the G8F version has a bit that glues itself to the side of her breast and creates a sharp point that looks bad and also messes with the simulation). They're either completely flaccid, or staticy, or fly off in weird directions... Poser's Cloth Room was more intuitive for me, for whatever reason.
It's a long list. I've mostly used Poser and then Studio for conceptual stuff, throwing things together as reference material and to test out how poses, arrangements, etc. that I want to use in drawings would actually work in real space. Learning to approach it from an artistic perspective of making an end product rather than determining "will this pose dislocate his someone's knee" has been something of a learning curve.
Are youasking in geenral or about tutorials? In geenral it can support both, but the bricks are not the same - those marked RSL are for 3Delight while those marked MDL ar for Iray (some have both).
Thank you so much.
You are best!
Shaders. Shader Mixer. I have a lot of older stuff and even the thought of adjusting the textures is a bit daunting. (To my eyes, Shader Mixer is anti intuitive compared to Octane.)
:)
I second this. Thanks Sickleyield
Thanks so much. I love your tutorials!
Very welcome. :)

The text version is done too now!

And the video directly because I forgot that earlier:
Edit: how do I tag someone who has a space in their username? Nothing I've tried so far has worked!
On a PC, I have found that I can highlight the full name, right-click and select the "copy" option. When pasted, this will insert the name with the link attached. On a phone, unfortunately, I don't think this method works.
Hmm, maybe @Faeryl%20Woman
EDIT: well it was worth a try
@SickleYield Thank you for that fantastic tutorial! Your tutorials are always so well done, clear, concise, and easy to follow the steps. I would love to see more on the creation of products from Daz to Blender if and when you have the time. It is so very generous of you to post them for free on your youtube and devianart channels, but they are absolutely worth selling, I for one would pay for them ( I have purchased some that you have sold in the Daz store already)
@SickleYield I'm subbed to your channel so I got the notification. I did see the video, or most of it, I have to finish it when I'm not so sleepy...lol. I even commented thought I think it was under the name Calie Vee. Thank you so much for doing this video. Only thing I don't know now is making clothes conforming and I think I am misunderstanding what that is.
As for tagging me or anyone who has two names seperated, you can click the quote button...lol
I asking about the interest in one tutorial about RSL in Shader Mixer, or one tutorial about MDL in Shader Mixer, or the two (separated) tutorials
I made a tutorial for the Iray Shader Mixer, and it's not that hard. The hardest part is knowing where to look for the proper documentation, because it sure isn't Daz.
