You're right, I didn't think this through. So it would need to be a Cayman style geograft.
I'm installing like 5 gigabytes of stuff, including the changed Starter Essentials, so I can't look at the texture maps yet & I don't know if there's an easy way to adapt the body/head (8.1) to the neck/torso (8) surfaces.
I would guess that the easiest way would be to own the "Xyz 7 for Xyz 8" UVs, like:

Then you just save the neck surface using the Genesis 3 UVs, and you can use the 8.1/base figure UVs on all the other surfaces of your Genesis 8 figure.
Of course, me (being someone who prefers the 8.1 base), I wouldn't bother doing this. Everyone has their own preferences, though.
EDIT: And, yeah, I do not like the old-style monochrome SSS maps. I'd say I "hate" them, but I understand they were the style back then, like wearing an onion on your belt (which was the fashion at the time). We have moved on in our understanding of Iray since then, however. Once I get my hands on these 8.1 adaptations, I'll start messing with the SSS maps pretty soon after that.

So it's just the base skin, none of the makeup options. I tried putting Kalea 7's makeup on by hand... it works if you also have the Kalea 7 UV for Genesis 8.1, which I do have. (Was this bundled into something? I seem to have 8.1 UVs for all the Genesis 3 base females, but I'm not sure where they came from. It's super useful. Like, I'm not sure there was EVER a "Tween Julie 7 for Genesis 8" product, but I have a Tween Julie 7 UV for Genesis 8.1 in my UV library now.)
(I understand some people prefer Genesis 8, especially those who aren't on 4.15, but 8.1 is my preferred base here. I'm sympathetic, but I'm not going out of my way to fix something that ain't broke for me (i.e. applying these to Genesis 8 instead of 8.1).)
Just looking at Kalea, the materials are Iray uber (not new PBR), but the UV is "Base 8.1 Female"... as expected. So, this is Kalea without the special Kalea UV. As noted, having these skins on the Base Female UV is SUPER AWESOME. Like, 3rd party anatomical elements (nipples especially) were EXTREMELY problematic with the custom Genesis 3 UVs, and this solves that problem. I just can't express how awesome this is, and I hope the other skins can move to Base Female at some point.
Also, having the textures on Iray Uber means that they're slightly more compatible with the old Genesis 3 makeup textures? I haven't checked if they are all using the same settings, but if they are? That's great.
There are new maps for "Body" and "Head" texture, as appropriate for the 8.1 Surface layout.
One difference that I noted is that the 8.1 materials do not load the Normal maps that come with Kimo 7, Darius 7, etc. Maybe that is because the normal maps were designed for the specific character morph, and now these skins are provided as a more generic material option.
Ah... that's a good catch.
The Normals are probably all linked to the custom UVs as well, so they're probably a pain to try to transfer.
Creating new Normals might be a fun task (I have tools to do that), although I'd probably just convert to PBR and use the Detail channel, myself.
EDIT: Also, no Anatomical Elements textures, although those are easily applied from the Genesis 3 figure.

Also, this is a nice simple tutorial for transferring morphs from Genesis 3 to Genesis 8/8.1, in case you want to use the basic morphs from the Genesis 3 figures. (No HD transfer.)

I checked only for the female face maps back when 8.1 first came out. The eyes are exactly the same, but the lips are slightly different (I don´t know why they did that, seems unnecessary). So you can use G3 and G8.0 eyeshadow/eyeliner and blush on G8.1 skins and vice versa, but not lipstick.
The free skins are in your Product Library - the Genesis 8 starter bundle was updated.
I'm not sure that I'm any less confused about what works with what even now, after reading all these posts. So I will stick with 8.0 and not worry my silly little head about 8.1, UVs, Geografts, PBR, etc.
Ah, nice. I actually have those G3F UVs for G8F, but I never really used them since the nipples never line up well with 3rd-party geografts. (The custom G3F UVs for the base characters always have some weird offsets compared to the base female UV.)
I'd get the G3M UVs, but I don't have the same need for them...
Okay... quick & simple Kalea 8.1 test (LULZ).
Morph is 55% Kalea 7 (via morph transfer trickery) and 45% Kiko 8.1, with a few nose/eye dial spins per my preference.
Skin... Kalea for 8.1 skin from the new Genesis 8 Starter Essentials, plus Kalea 7 makeup via the Genesis 3 Character UVs for G8F, converted to the new PBR shader using Victoria 8.1 settings & Detail maps... plus several tweaks to the Dual Lobe Specular channel, (simplistic) custom SSS maps based on the Diffuse textures, and eyes from Jacqueline 8.1.

Actually, if you own the core characters these free textures are based on, then you can already use them on G8 by baking the textures. This process has been covered in the forums for Genesis 2 and the unique UVs from that time.

Repeating this process for the makeup textures you like will give you all the textures you want for that character. You just have to use the correct UV groups for Genesis 3 as they differ from 2. This process looks very tedious, and maybe it is if you want to do a lot of make up options. But once you do it a few times you'll get the hang of it.
The benefit of this process over using the products that map the unique UVs to G8 is that by doing this you will be able to mix these textures with existing G8 textures. For example I like using Bluejaunte gloss textures instead of the originals in a lot of cases. This process lets me do that with the new converted textures.
You can even use this technique to create the Genesis 8.0 torso map from the 8.1 maps. It may not be full proof, I think I have had a few that showed a seam where the body and neck meet. Perhaps playing with the "bleed" settings may help with this.
Additionally, you can easily make your own 8.1 eye UV map for 8.0. Export a dev kit 8.1 (from starter essentials) at base resolution as OBJ. Load a dev kit 8.0 in Daz. Go to surfaces and in the drop down menu options will be a selection to import a UV. Import your 8.1 OBJ, and save it. Done. Now you can use any 8.1 eye texture on all 8.0 characters. You can go even further and save the new tear and eyelash as props for 8.0 as well.

I guess postwork made it a bit more obvious but there’s weird splotchiness on the shoulder and I’m not thrilled with the hairy arms and I already have a product that lets you use G3 core character UVs on G8 but the thought was nice... The eyes are V8.1. As someone mentioned earlier, the eyes look awful.

I don´t have any 8.1 makeup yet, so I used Aniyah´s makeup geoshell, which ignores UVs.

...which with the materials being only useable for G8.1 doesn't really any sense... they should have put them into
people/genesis 8.1 female/materials/base materials/iray
people/genesis 8.1 male/materials/base materials/iray
so I would have known to bother with them. Ah well, moved them myself.
I can think of two possible ways to get G8 use G8.1 UV's,
1. Copy the "Base 8.1 Female.dsf" from "...\data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female 8_1\UV Sets\DAZ 3D\Base\" to "...\data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female\UV Sets\DAZ 3D\Base\", edit the path inside accordingly, and give it a slightly changed ID, Name and Label.
2. Since DS 4.15 can now read morphs and UV's of two generations into one (G8.1), one could try using the same trick for G8. ie. add the "Add-ons" path into "...\data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female\", copy the folders and files inside the "Add-ons" folder of the G8.1 and edit the contents of "DAZAddonPath.dsf" to point to correct (G8) add-ons path and correct G8.1 morph and UV folders.
Have not tried either, but if I had the need, these would be the ones I would try first.
The 8.1 UVs overlap areas thata re a single surface in 8, so just making the UVs available will not help - you'd also need to create the new surface grouping on 8, at which point you'd probably be better off using 8.1 itself (since it will automatically apply the 8 chest/head maps to its new groups).
