Watch out for product "updates" breaking products again

barbultbarbult Posts: 24,836

I recently got a bunch of product updates for very old products showing up in DIM. Of course the readme files were not updated to say why the product was updated. sadI installed the update to LoREZ Skeleton. It broke the other half of the bundle, LoREZ Skeleton Army, which was not updated. Now, many of the material presets in LoREZ Skeleton Army report missing file errors. angry

I kept a backup version of the LoREZ Skeleton Zip file, because I don't trust these product "updates". Comparing the backup with the current version, I see that the current version deleted some files and added others. That's dandy, but the LoREZ Skeleton Army relies on those deleted files, and LoREZ Skeleton Army was not updated. I wasted half an hour of my time writing up detailed steps to reproduce the problem and submitted a help request.

Thanks for the warning! I downloaded (but didn't yet install) that update and several others. Luckily I keep a backup of the previous versions of everything.

Thanks for the warning. I've downloaded that and a bunch of other updates, but they're not installed yet.

I'm getting very disappointed in how none of these updates (and I must have at least 10 pending) had their online documentation updated to list what was changed. Daz3d is dropping the ball on this.

I haven't download or installed any of the rest of the bunch. I have 17 more. I don't have that much time to do QA's job for free today.

I got a bunch of those updates as well, but unfortunately, I installed them. There were so many that there's no way I could have gone through to test them all -- they seem to be clearing out a bunch of old tickets all at once. (Though, much to my amazement, Yvanovich Bun Hair was updated and actually works as it should. Only 19 months after I first filed my ticket.)

I'm very curious about what's going on with Leonard G8.1. He's gotten about eight updates in the past two or so weeks, I think. It doesn't appear to be the thing where something gets stuck in DIM, because there have been days when he wasn't listed as having an update. but what could they possibly be doing that requires so many updates? And of course, his readme says nothing at all.

I have had some issues today as well. :(

I am also wondering what's going on with Leonard. I have been keeping backups for him, but with some of this older stuff I didn't bother and now I wish I had.

I certainly understand any frustration updates might cause, however updates are how we fix products with issues, so it would not be wise to not update.

Our customer service team has been hard at work and has resolved hundreds of daz connect issues (and other bugs) in the last two weeks, hence so many updates on older items.

If we do have an update that causes an issue, please let customer service know, so we can fix any issues for everyone.

@DAZ_Jessica your team needs to update the readme files to say what they fixed, so people know the purpose of an update!

It's bothersome. I am actually using lorez skeleton. Glad I did not install the update.

The update for FafnirPs in the same batch has a corrupt jpg file in it so will not install/extract either through DIM or manually.

Ticket sent but I'm interested to know how I know when an update in DIM has be updated again, it's still going to be in the updates section.

hard working is no excuse for bad working

why should your paying customers do your job ?

what do they get from it ?

maybe a little store credit ?

You can sort the Ready to Download tab by Package Date : Recent First.
You can hover your cursor over the product name in the Ready to Download tab and a popup will show you the package date.

Thank you, I did not know about the hovering over the product name bit, appreciate you answering.

Its no good if you are fixing problems that cause other problems - thats not a fix. To me this seems to be yet another case that should have been caught if QA were on the ball. If you didn't release so many broken products in the first place Customer service wouldn't be so busy, it really might help if you addressed the problems with QA perhaps a bit more training is required.

LoREZ Skeleton has been updated again. LoREZ Skeleton Army works again. Thanks for the quick repair to the previous update.

There is even an entry in the readme now, but it is dated to the previous update that broke things. I guess it is still accurate, but it would be nice if there were a mention of today's fix to that update, so people who installed the bad update could see that it was fixed. Maybe, if we are lucky, another readme entry will be added.

..this is why I finally dropped Reality/Lux 4.x and went back to 3DL as it seemed every time there was a new patch issued to fix bugs, something else broke.

Does it, really? I get grey blocks when loading the Skeleton Army skeletons 1-7 with the new LoREZ Skeleton installed. The preset is looking for ID "P3DA_Skeleton_DS9", which was in the original LoREZ Skeleton package (internal reference in P3DA_SkeletonLR_10872.dsf). Now it is just "P3DA_Skeleton_DS". LoREZ Skeleton package dated 2021-07-07 10:18:00Z.

Uh Oh... I'll have to double check when I get to my computer. I just tried the army textures on a skeleton already loaded from LoREZ Skeletons. The materials failed for me before the latest update.  And it was the materials problem that I reported in my help request a couple days ago. Maybe that is all they fixed and all they tested.

I followed up and checked the Skeleton 1-7 in LoRez Skeleton Army. Sure enough, they don't work, just as NorthOf45 said (not that I doubted him). I see why I didn't discover this problem before - it is because of yet another problem with the product! The Skeleton 1-7 full figure Actors are not showing up in the LoRez Skeleton Army Smart Content or the Product section of the Content Library. You can only find them if you look in the mapped folder layout. crying

Time for another help request. I wish I got paid minimum wage for writing help requests. I'd be rich!

For one day, the new updates had documentation in their respective Resolved Issues. Today, I have another new update and, once again, nothing listed under Resolved Issues.

The update which has broken my machine is OpenSSL which is code used in dim, daz studio.   The dlls in question seem to be blocked by a windows update and cause studio to crash. This happens on a brand new computer. All versions of OpenSSL used in studio appear to be out of date, and thus at risk for security vulnerabilities. There doesn't appear to be a fix, but to use earlier versions of these dlls, which is not ideal.

The current and secure version of OpenSSL does not include these files studio uses as the names have changed in 1.1.

it isn't just studio that has a problem with those files causing a crash. I have the same issue with nik collection and topaz studio which also install versions making my machine crash.

I'm thinking that maybe there is an Iray update to the LoREZ Skeleton Army in the works to go with the LoREZ Skeleton. Can't see doing one without the other.

Now I got a DIM product "Daz Studio Content Creation Mastery Bundle" that has no readme, installs with 0 bytes, and has no package files and no installed files. Is it just an empty wrapper for the actual content files? If so, what is the purpose of putting it in DIM? Or is content missing? I submitted a nelp request.
