  • I guess what differs a "standard fantasy render" from a contribution to the competition would be the acutal submission, either by form or by e-mail. However I wished I would have gotten some feedback on my e-mail submission (i.e. 'contribution accepted' or something similar).

I DID get a "Contribution Accepted" flash at the bottom of my screen when I posted.  But it was only for a second... lol.   If you blinked.. you may have missed it!

I guess since others are posting here... I'll post mine too.  Not sure I have ANY chance of even getting a blue ribbon... but main thing is I tried... right?  lol

    ENJOY!

I've tried my luck capturing a good sword and sorcery scene with this image.

Wich took far to long to make and leaves a lot to be desired :)

Oh...in that case I hope my contribution actually was accepted. Because if not, that would be a shame - not to mention the time invested...

I have seen many entries for the contest so far, and in this thread, for some reason, this one stands out for me.  I just love the detail and lighting in this render.  If I were a judge, this would be one of my picks.  I just like how the two are ready to embark on a quest.

I have also entered the contest and I have three entries.  I have them posted here on DeviantART, which is my Social Post site for the contest:

This first one is a Faun (Goat/Human hybrid) and a Drider (Spider / Human Hybrid) fighting:

    https://www.deviantart.com/ravendiablo/art/Faun-VS-Drider-Alondra-and-Dragana-Contest-Entry-887016337

This one is a nod to the Sword In the Stone, except here it is guarded by a Balrog/Elf hybrid and three people are on a quest to get it:

    https://www.deviantart.com/ravendiablo/art/Baylana-Guardian-of-the-Sword-Contest-Entry-887477766

Finally, (and this is my favorite), depicts an elf/human hybrid woman riding on the back of a dragon and they are nicely setting fire to a forest and "accidentally" set fire to a windmill:

    https://www.deviantart.com/ravendiablo/art/Ragna-Rocks-with-her-dragon-Blaze-Daz-Contest-887735332

I would have done more as the fantasy genre is my favoite one to work in, but alas, I could only do so many in the allotted time.

    Enjoy!

I wish I had time/space to comment on everyone's artwork.  But alas...I am known to be 'long winded' and my praise for the artwork would take far too many pages... lol.  So... This is to everyone... WONDERFUL ARTWORKS... and WELL DONE!!!

    Drider (Spider / Human Hybrid)

Being a bit pedantic, Driders are strictly Drow/Spider hybrids (it's not exactly the most sophisticated portmanteau) - for human/spider hybrids, I prefer "Arachne", after the mythological Greek who was transformed into the first spider. (Which also has the advantage of not being a trademark belonging to the rather litigious Wizards of the Coast).

I rushed a lot of the poses and some of the lighting.

Especially the lighting on the male and female barbarian could be better. And i wanted the priestess in the center to have much darker skin, but couldn't get an appropriate lighting done in time, so i had to give her a much lighter skin tone :)

And in general, just more work on the details. The expressions, the poses, head movement and eye direction. Most of it was done until it was just good enough, and there was just enough time to do several render passes and finish the postwork just before the deadline.

You're welcome!   Wi th my renders, I had literally included a sword somewhere and a magical element, literally sticking with the theme.  Your render broadened the scope more and really has a strong "Going on a quesf" vibe to it and J just about all goo d fantasy stories are based on some kind of quest, so it fits very well.  Then wa s your level of details.  Very impressive.  I

For the sake of being simplistic,  I just said spider/human  hybrid when in actuality, Dragana is actually a dragon changed into a human (albeit not fully), but being a sorceress she can shape shift into certain forms. mostly those that manipulate the lower part of her body.   So she can change into a centau r  and a Gorgon as well.

  • Hello,

There were three wonderful renders announced on Twitter having won places 1 to 3 in the 'character' category. Why aren't they also announced in the forum? I mean, not everyone uses Twitter...

My guess is, that we're not the target audience.

Wasn't there 3 categories? If so my guess is the next will be announced at facebook, and then the 3rd somewhere else.

Hm. Personally i expected a new entry at https://blog.daz3d.com  or maybe a new thread (as there is more attention to first post usually).

    edit:

Took a look. Wonderful renders! Very strong works. Congratulations!

Here are the winning Character Category images, with links to where they can be found so you can learn more about them from the artist if you are interested (sorry, they aren't in proper order, just the order I found them). I doubt DAZ will give links to the original post since they aren't on the Tweet, and I doubt they will post the winners here, so I figured I'd at least give links to the first three images.

Third Place Character image in the gallery here:

You can find the First Place image on Facebook here

Elf Fire BattleMage by Sareth (Link)

The Second Place image can be found on Patreon.

You did fine with regards to your renders so I wouldn't worry that your renders were not good. Contests such as that are always difficult because thematically they are a blur.
