I either misplaced my brain or my TiVo remote.  I think it is my TiVo remote which I can use to control my TiVo device to watch something.  But I also can't see my brain!

edit Found the TiVo remote under the 2022 puppy calander.  Now I forgot what I was going to watch.

Found out that since I don't smoke I am not allowed outside.  I don't understand why.

Maybe it's because you aren't on fire... I usually toss things outside when they catch on fire, so maybe they don't want people who are on fire running around indoors setting other stuff on fire...
Technically, not everything that burns, smokes... probably a little, but not necessarily a "smokey" smoke... sometimes stuff just burns and you can barely even see the flames...

It seems like an ill thought out policy to jump right to smoke and ignore the fire which is probably primarily more problematic, especially if someone there has a collection of antique gasoline soaked rags or old timey cannon balls laying around... unless it the policy refers to smoking things... like they don't want you smoking salmon or those big hams in the living room or common area...

I actually don't know if you have a "common area" because that seems more like a college dorm kind of term or somewhere peasants or commoners tend to congregate right before they revolt... maybe they are just worried that while you are smoking a slab of pig, you'll organize a rebellion and it'll be easier to light the torches before you storm the whatever you'd be storming...

Of course that doesn't address the problem of the pitchforks most mobs tend to produce right before they spontaneously go storming, but I'm imagining they didn't really put a lot of thought into the whole policy beyond "if they are smoking meat outdoors it'll be easier to lock them out if they suddenly revolt", which kinda makes sense unless you don't have a moat or battlements around the place you live, in which case it's probably not that hard to get back inside, especially if you have some decent battering rams or siege engines...

I don't know if this was of any help... I'm just throwing out ideas, and to be honest I read most of what you said, but then I dropped a cookie on the floor and it rolled under the desk and after I finally got all the hair balls and dust off it so I could eat it, I'd forgotten mostly what that was about.
But I feel it probably comes close enough to the topic...
    Probably.

(Disclaimer: I am aware of how bad it is for those in the EU and UK, but I'm going to complain anyway as I'm in a fairly disgruntled way at the moment)

I'm trying to put together a nice(ish) looking light post for a pair of solar motion sensor lights, but like anything I want to use is either insanely overpriced (like 3x what it was a few months ago) or it's not available anywhere...

Originally I was going to use a 3" steel pole, but none of the stuff I intended to use to mount the light to the pole is available and the pole is stupidly expensive too... last year I could have bought a fancy cast aluminum post for what that method will end up costing.

I'll probably end up cobbling together some sort of fancy(ish) vinyl post with either a wooden or aluminum post insert, but that's more involved than I wanted it to be... the initial idea was going to be a simple 9 ft tall solar coach light mounted to a (very) heavy paver base which could be moved if needed... But of course none of the solar coach lights that have motion detectors have replaceable LED bulbs and no way I'm spending $200 on a fixture that's basically disposable because the LED array is hardwired to the unit.

The lights I'm going to use are not that pretty, basically they look like security lights with separate notebook sized solar panels, but at least they were reasonably priced... so now I'm going have to figure out how to make it look less industrial looking without going overboard on effort and price.

    Nothing is ever simple.

    Ever.

Also, while I'm complaining... among all the stupid things to indefinitely disappear from store shelves (not the least of which is spray paint, which I constantly use... I hate having to mix up lacquers and use a spray gun for little jobs), now it seems onion powder has gone extinct... fer real?

Like the stores don't even have a shelf space or shelf tag for it anymore... well, one fancy store in the rich part of town has Hand Ground Organic Sumatran White Onion ethically roasted by spice monks in the volcanic caldera of Mount Cinabung... or some nonsense like that, whatever the backstory on that, it's like twenty frickin' dollars for a little bottle of the stuff... I'll leave it for the rich folks who probably need fancy onion powder more than me, as I'm more of a Costco institutional sized onion powder user.

Besides GPUs what are you folks finding super annoyingly scarce?

    Feel free to share.

I don't use much onion powder but I do use minced onion. This is the one I usually get and it's pretty good. This is the place I buy a lot of my spices from when I'm ordering hard to find stuff and bulk stuff and they're pretty darn fresh and really good.

I was trying to take pictures of my fish and noticed a strong basil scent.  My fish are doing okay by the way.  There is nothing in my aquarium that smells like basil.

on other news I need to prune my plant I brought inside recently. It is getting closer to winter and I don't want my plant to get too cold.

I have that plant on my desk and am trying to prune the dead or bad leaves.  I am getting hungry now.  I also am having a mysterious scent of basil attacking my senses.

Thank you, but it's only onion powder that I can't find... minced, granulated, shaved (Brazilian?), flaked, or other kinds of onion shrapnel are all available... it the powder I can't find... I actually have plenty of those, but I use the powder to make marinade sauces and anything too gritty makes it harder to make into a thin consistency... also the powder breaks down quicker too... Technically I can order it online, but it's twice + as expensive as a brand like McCormick would be in the grocery store.
One place wanted like $35 for the $6 or $7 container I get from BJs or Costco... I'm wondering like are we scalping onion powder too now?

I went to the store to buy stuff for a food drive for thanksgiving... we are doing it for two families and the organizers give you list of non-perishable items, and I ended up having to go to four stores to fulfill it ... it wasn't anything exotic, all regular thanksgiving stuff, it's just that all the stores are out of cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes mix, stuffing, etc...  Apparently cornbread mix is extinct too... I ended up buying double the amount of corn muffin mix.

Every year its a bit hard to find some items, especially if I cut it too close to the deadline to get the items, but this year was pretty bad... actually if the list didn't contain mostly generic staple thanksgiving items, I could have substituted better flavors or varieties... but I'm not sure people would like Rosemary herb stuffing as opposed to generic "Turkey" flavor or Pomegranate Cranberry juice as opposed to plain apple or cranberry.

I need to decide on one task and work on it.  I have a water bucket I made from a gallon jug.  I started working on some watercolor pencil work, but didn't put the bucket away.

Now I am working on pruning my plant.  I had it outside but as the weather got colder I brought it in.  It has been a while but I am just getting to prune it.

I am getting hungry as for some reason I can smell the herb basil.

Yeah I hear you about everything running out already. I got the last 2 boxes of cornbread and they were all out of gravy so gonna just have to make my own. I do homemade mashed potatoes. Luckly they haven't ran out of those yet.

We have the whole family over for Thanksgiving and Christmas. This Thanksgiving we have 9 people that will be here. Kinda looks like the Griswold family Christmas. And yes we do have a Cusin Eddy type relative. My grandmother gave me a awesome recipe for cranberry sauce that is to die for, so I stocked up on fresh cranberries as soon as they put them out. Everyone in the family likes different vegetables so I usually end up doing corn, green beans, spinach, brussels sprouts, and broccoli. I have to buy 20lb+ turkey's that take almost 12 hours to brine for them to turn out perfect. You bite into it and get a very juicy piece. Stores and freezes so well. I freeze some and months later take it out, let it thaw and pop it in the over to reheat it and it's still as juicy as it was on the day made. The store of course ran out of the vegetable broth that I use in the brine so have to buy the paste to make my own which isn't a big deal. Got the sweet potatoes and pineapple for the slow cooker. I love the holidays and cooking the big dinners even with all my ailments. The only time of year that it feels worth going through the tremendous back and leg pain.

I only buy a few spices from Amazon cause a lot of the spices are outrageous in price for the quantity they give. The onion powder from that spice store I linked you too is very good and strong. I just ordered 1 lb of it. I usually buy everything in bulk and put it in a big jar with the hinged lid that makes them airtight and they last forever in those things without going stale. They also have very good quality chilies as well. I buy them for making my chili powder. I have to make two types though cause the wife doesn't like spicy foods. Me and my oldest love spicy foods. My youngest didn't like spicy either but he's getting better. He's dating an Indian girl he met at college a couple years ago. They will be coming in for the holiday. Will be great to see the two of them. I really miss him when he's off at college cause we are very close. My oldest goes to college here in town and graduates this year and the youngest is in DC and graduates next year. The youngest is a fabulous cook like me. He was standing on a chair in the kitchen with me when he was 5. I would give him a pairing knife and hold it in his hand and he'd help me cut veggies or other stuff. I'm an avid hunter so he's helped me butcher several times. Wild game is about the only meat we eat cause the store stuff is so darn expensive and full of fat.

Inflation is getting horrid in this state. Not sure about anywhere else though but here is ridiculous, and wages aren't going up and haven't in 10-15 years. Put it this way, I just turned 46 on the 13th and when I was working for min wage when I was 15 I was making $4.25 an hour. Minimum wage here has only gone up $2-$3 in 31 years. Man now I made myself hungry, lol

Me and my daughter just came back (well, actually it was an hour ago) from dropping off the thanksgiving donations... it was a lot further out on the east end of the island and the route we were taking was blocked by a pretty bad multi-car accident, so we ended up using poorly lit/unlit back roads to get to the place...

God, Google maps sucks at giving a direct route... but it was a rather comical trip with my daughter giving directions and us nearly driving into a lake or some dark body of water... probably not the ocean, so less chance of sea monsters... but still.

I feel good that when we got there, there were lots of donations being dropped off, probably a couple of small truckloads... but I also feel like I'm a terrible person because I'm glad I was able to drop the stuff off because it was taking up the floor of the dining room and I was tired of navigating around it.

It looked like most people did what I did which was put each family's stuff into one or two big boxes, but also a lot people dropped stuff off like individually handing over each can and jar so the people receiving the stuff had to pile it on the ground... like there was a section where all the boxed donations were being placed and an area where they put all the "I don't know what these folks were thinking" donations went... there was this one lady going back and forth to her car taking one item at a time...

I blame the whole elimination of plastic shopping bags for this... it's rendered too many people incapable of handling groceries in a sane manner.

Well... I was going to complain about stoopid Google maps, but I guess I should eat something instead of complaining about how terrible the signage is on Long Island and how much I hate Google maps giving directions... (generally I don't use Google maps or any GPS, I memorize the route, but it was dark and it was a big detour)...

    Anyway, good night folks.

    Anyway, good night folks.

When I was Chief of Police, my officers and I would hand out turkey, potatoes and a vegetable to all the needy families in our town. Earlier in the year we would put a sign up lists in all the businesses in town and each and every person on the list would get stuff to make a holiday dinner for their family. We did the same for Christmas except it was a ham instead and the families that had kids we brought a couple presents for each kid. The local Walmart would donate the toys and the police dept would provide all the ham's. It was one of the biggest thrills in our lives. I would bring my family out to help and they had a blast helping feed the needy and made them feel better knowing they could help. Afterwards the kids starting volunteering with charities and raising money for them. The youngest still volunteers with the red cross running blood from hospital to hospital. He's been doing it for years and he heads that dept in our county of the organization. When he went off to college he just transferred to the DC office and does the same there plus working and going to school full time. I wish I still had that energy.

...bleah, I loathe the pandemic for the fact it made the market I usually shop at close own its bulk spice department.  I used to purchase all my spices this way and put them in airtight containers after I got home.  Now I have to purchase those terribly expensive little brand name jars (that probably have been sitting on the shelf for about a year or so) which are often half to on quarter of the amount I would normally get in bulk at a substantially lower price.  I haven't been able to make my signature tarragon, garlic, and white pepper roasted red potatoes for a while now as I no longer can get tarragon leaves (only a powdered version) or white pepper without for paying 7 - 8 $ for one of those tiny jars that are like 1/4 oz at best.

Complaint #1:  Snow.  And more snow coming.

Complaint #2: My friend who drives me uptown once-in-a-while has gone to Florida.

Non-complaint #1:  My brand new AMD Ryzen5600G CPU has been tested by a 'puter shop and has been found to be completely functional.  Yay! yes But that means I still have compatability or functional issues with either my motherboard or RAM.no

Complaint #3:  I have no alternative motherboard to substitute.  I have no other type of DDR4 RAM to substitute (all my RAM is Corsair Vengeance LPX or PRO, either 3200 or 2666 speed).

    Non-complaint #2:  Tomorrow is monthly payday! Wheee...smiley  (It's been an expensive month.frown)

Non-complaint #3:  It's my birthday on Friday.  Wheee, I think I'll break open a bottle of bubbly (the good stuff this year, it's been a tough two years).

How about making labels for your little bottles.  Find a nice orangish/brownish spice and put the label "Melange" on it.  Space folding not guaranteed.

Every time I put pieces of bananas into my aquarium, those pieces disappear.  Summers nor Loki would tell me what happened to those pieces of banana as they are almost always looking for something right after I notice the pieces aren't there.

i forgot to buy the studio apartment while it was on sale for $2.99 yesterday.  I need to do laundry too.  i'm just waiting for other family members to empty out their clothes from the washer.
