Pudgy the Corgi crashed my DS ...

  • I'm sure Pudgy will be fixed.  But if you absolutely NEED to render a shot before the fix is out but are still concerned about messing up the shader settings for AFTER it is out... just up the paging file size.

It's slow, but it WILL render.

Terrible, clumsy solution.  But if it only takes a week for the fix to come out... it gets the job done without messing around with downgraging settings.

Actually, I reached out to the PA and was told that I would have to tweak settings.  While I have experienced DS crashes, it has never been because my pc doesn't have enough system ram.

After comparing the dforce fur on https://www.daz3d.com/pufflet-the-bunny and https://www.daz3d.com/pudgy-the-corgi, ; I believe the PR Interpolation Segment Length should be 1.0, not .10.  Pufflet's fur has a length of 1.0 for both settings and load without issues.

That fixed it for me too!

*sets his paging file back to something sane*

Thanks for that!  It worked!  I'm using DS 4.11 on a seven year old MAC and it rendered in Iray quite fast.

    Original Settings for Pudgy:
    PR Interpolation Segment Length: 0.1
Additional PR Hairs Density (cm^2): 1500

    Render below with settings:
    PR Interpolation Segment Length: 0.5
Additional PR Hairs Density (cm^2): 400

    memory consumption reduced dramatically
    for VRAM and main memory
thanks J Cade for the great tip!

Thank you so much for this! It helped so much!
