If you know how to export the mesh as a base resolution obj, and how to reimport as a morph you are already half way there. The only steps beyond that are to convert the morph to a clone (using Window->Panes (tabs)->Property Hierarchy) and then save the clone as a morph asset (Save As->Support Asset->Morph assets). In fact the last step is not 100% necessary, but allows you to put the clone under the name and location you desire in the data folder.
The export obj and import as morph worked for me this time, I forgot about the resolution differences, being so used to having only one resolution in Poser with the old Gen4 figures. From now on I'll remember to always check which one is which and use the right version.
So, for a clone I just dial up the shape I want in my Genesis figure -- V4, for instance -- export as a base object, then convert to a clone and save it? Or have I missed a step?
Btw, thanks for all the help. I think I may finally be getting somewhere with this. :-)
Me again. :sigh: Got a clone but Studio does not see it when I load G2M up and click on Hidden/Clones. It seems to be in the proper Studio folder but no luck trying to get it working. What am I doing wrong?
Edit: Just found Kattey's tutorial, looks like there's more to it than I thought. But not so far off it's hopeless. Gonna try it out tomorrow since my brain's too fuzzled for anything complex right now.
Is it a V4 clone? If so drag on some V4 clothing and when the box pops up to ask for the original model for autofit, is your V4 clone one of the options given for the source figure?
Yes, it's a V4 clone -- assuming I made it correctly. But the autofit box does not have it as an option when I try putting the V4 Reiver top on G2M. And it still doesn't show up in the Hidden/Clones list even after closing and opening Studio again.
I suspect you did something wrong when using the property heirarchy editor, if you can tell me the exact steps you took I will look at it tomorrow.
Me, I would like to see some anime stilized adult character... like the ones shown here:
Removed non functioning link
You know, not always you need to represent teenagers, even when you're manga-like arting
Okay, here's what happened when I tried making a V4 clone for G2M.
1: Loaded up G2 female and dialed in the V4 body shape. Exported as base object.
2: Loaded up G2 male then used Morph Transfer to load the object. Success, G2 male morphed to the V4 shape.
3: Finally found the Property Hierarchy tab, clicked on the G2 Male & saw my V4 morph listed.
4: Went to File/Save As/Support Asset/Morph Assets and saved the morph. Then back to Support Asset and attempted to save as a clone. Got an error popup box that said I needed to select two figures to make a clone.
5: Loaded up a second G2M and tried again. Selected both the morphed and zeroed figures. This time it let me save a clone. Hooray! I named it CloneV4 and saved it to my library. Deleted the figures and loaded a fresh G2 male. Looked under Hidden in the parameters tab, all clones present and accounted for. Except the one I'd just made.
6: Make sure new clone is in correct folder. Oops, it's in My Library and not My Daz 3D Library. Copy it, with Studio closed so I don't mess anything up there, into the right folder in the right library. I know it's the right one because that's where the other G2male clones live and Daz can find them every time.
7: Open Studio, load G2Male in a new scene & check for a V4 clone. Nothing. The other clones all sit there, laughing at me.
8: Lather, rinse, repeat. V4 clone still nowhere in sight. Other clones still laughing. Sadistic little wankers.
9: Apply threats of serious digital harm accompanied by TOS-violating speech in several languages to stupid laughing clones and try again. Several times.
10: Realize the insanity of expecting different results from doing the same thing over and over until exhausted and nearly dead of frustration then give up and go to bed. With a good book and chocolate. LOTS of chocolate, in an attempt to forget those @!!&&#&&!!! laughing clones. Tomorrow is another day.
If only I could figure out exactly what went wrong I might be tempted to try again. Assuming I have plenty of caffeine, chocolate and tranquilizers. Not to mention industrial grade hearing protectors for all the neighbors so they don't complain about the noise. Not much I can do about the blistered paint on the barn, though. Sorry, Mom!
Use the Format {url=http://blah.com} Your Text here {/url} and replace the curly brackets with square ones.
In step 3 did you just look at the settings with the property hierarchy editor, or did you not amend the V4 morph to change it into a V4 clone? This is the steps I took to create a V4 clone for G2M.
1) Loaded G2F, applied a V4 shape, changed to base resolution, exported as mesh. I exported as DAZ Studio scale. (Exactly the same as you). I called the exported obj G2FV4.
2) Loaded G2M, selected it, and then selected Edit->Figure->Morph Loader Pro. Clicked on "Choose Morph Files", and then selected the G2FV4.obj I saved in 1) and ensured the import scale was also DAZ Studio.
3) Now if you look in Parameters tab you should see a G2FV4 morph, and dialling it to V4 will morph G2M as V4, so far everything is as you did.
4) Next step is the tricky bit. Select G2M, and then Window->Panes->Property Hierarchy. Genesis 2 Male should be seen in the editor, expand this, and then Parameters. I located my morph called G2FV4. I then clicked on this, hit the right mouse button, and a pop up box should appear, now select Parameters in the box.
5) This pops up another small box. Next to "Type" you will see Modifier/Shape. Click on this and change to Modifier/Clone. Then press Accept and dismiss the Property Hierarchy Box. This is the step I think you missed.
6) That is it really. I then dragged a V4 dress onto G2M and in the autofit pop up box I selected G2FV4 as the clone shape, and the dress fitted (I had to apply a smoothing modifier to fix some poke through). Below is the render I took. The dress is V4 Cheyenne.
There is one last step, which I will detail in the next post.
EDIT: Fixed some typos
Ok, so we now have a V4 clone for our loaded G2M figure. However there is a problem, when I load a new G2M he is missing the G2FV4 morph under his parameters/morphs, and obviously when a V4 dress is loaded on to the new G2M figure no G2FV4 clone is offered.
Here we perform the asset morph saves you have already tried, but I suspect you were saving a morph, not a clone.
7) Delete the G2M you just added and did NOT have the clone. Now select the G2M that HAS the V4 clone and click on File->Save As->Support Assets->Morph Asset(s). This pops up a new box. Expand Genesis 2 Male->Morphs->Morph Loader Pro and you should see G2FV4 (or whatever you called your initial obj export). Click on this to select it and press Accept.
Now load a new G2M figure, and Viola! it has the G2FV4 clone and you can fit V4 clothes to it.
That is it really, I hope it helps. Sorry to have gone over steps you did correctly, I just wanted to make it clear to anyone else reading this what you need to do to create a clone of any of the older shapes for Genesis 2. As long as you have GenX2, or the legacy clone shapes, you can use the same steps to create clones for any other shapes you own, eg A3, M3, V3, M4 etc.
EDIT: Byrdie, one more thing, even though you have created a clone, you should not be saving anything as a "Clone Asset" only as a "Morph Asset" like I have in step 7. I believe clone assets are used to create clones directly using two figures, but I have never used it. It is not needed when using the technique I have described above, only Morph Asset.
Thank you, that works. I still do not see a new clone under the Hidden/Clones menu but when I run autofit... IT WORKS! A little bit of smoothing to fix some shoulder poke through now, doesn't he look just darling in Vicky's Goth Maid dress? :giggles:
I have GenX2 and all the legacy shapes, time to go closet raiding.
To make the clone appear under hidden/clones. I think it is a box you need to edit when you saved the Morph Asset that represented your clone.
The group needs to be /Hidden/Clones, normally clones you make using the way I outlined above will be grouped under /Morphs/Morph Loader. You can always edit the dsf file that represents your clone, but it is not something I would recommend unless you are confident that you know what you are doing. It makes no difference to the functionality of the clone, which works just fine in autofit no matter where it is grouped.
Thanks ever so much, I am saving these instructions so I won't forget. Not gonna mess with the file this time but nex clone I make I'll check that option & see how it goes. Right now I have a working V4 clone option in autofit for my G2M and that's what matters. I am a happy little Byrdie. :-)

Thanks very much for sharing your brilliant morph, it's appreciated. I have all but three of the requirements, which, unfortunately, total an extra $70+, so I'm probably going to have to wait for an official DAZ release, for now. Should none ever turn up, I at least have this option.
Again, thanks for sharing it. I really do appreciate knowing that, in a pinch, I can use your recipe.

I'm extremely disappointed in Genesis 2. Feels like a huge step backwards from the nice, clean single figure system that Genesis is.
If you look at some of the pictures posted earlier in the thread at how badly a man bends (particularly at the shoulders) when using the weight map of a woman (and no doubt posing a woman with a man's weight map has the same issue), you can see one of the advantages of having a split base.
G2M and G2F are based on the same mesh, so it is not that a different layout of the polygons justified splitting the genders into two figures, but the rigging of the two bases are different, and that is where the advantages are.
I fully understand your point though, a single unified base also had many advantages, not least cost, as we now have to buy morphs etc two times over.
I have all of the above except most importantly Keiko 6 herself. He does look good though.
RCDeschene, could you post an image of your Kenji stood straight with his arms down, I am interested in seeing how well he bends whilst using a female weight map, thanks.
Can do!
Thanks for that. Kenji certainly seems to bend at the shoulders better than the males I created for G2F using a straight formular of G2M 1.0 and V6 1.0. Maybe it is because Kenji has some of the morph Andrygynous in him.

I always assumed that was why G2 has the Androgynous morphs. DAZ most likely intended that we'd look for a method to simulate the G1 versatility that was scarified. So, it's only natural to suspect they'd give such a morph that creates androgyny the proper rigging to aid in a convincing gender-bend.
I think this is the first time I've ever been a trendsetter, you've have even adopted the name.
Seriously though it's great to see people expanding on my original concept. Mine was a very quick mock-up and since then there have been some great improvements. RCDeschene's pretty much nailed it I think. It looks very reminiscent of Hiro, but with the stylistic properties of Keiko.
My thanks to both of you, both brilliant pieces of work.

Ha ha! Thank you, thank you!
A Hiro-esque knock-off is exactly what I was going for. Since Keiko is pretty much our official DO-brand Hitomi 6, I wanted to reference the idea of what MallenLane did with Hiro 5. However, instead of making him a complete stand-in for Hiro 6, I made it with just enough undertone of Hiro's 3 & 5 to look like a convincing counterpart for Keiko while having some uniqueness to it's overall character.
Truth be told, all of this positive feedback is making me want to try my hand at a Hiro 6. ;)
A recipe, yay!!! I must try to recreate it. Sure, this would need all the assets, but... if I ever get Keiko, it will be my first morph to set.
The only thing is the pectorals. Either the morphs or the skin textures show the feminine side... What about copying the male UVs and using a male skin? If it is the skin, it should fix the A-cup effect.
Actually, the skin you see on my Kenji here is male, DestinyGarden's Toon Style Shaders for G2M to be exact. And yes, I did try to remedy the pectoral warp. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find anything sufficient enough to dial it out...
