To me the bundle is junk. An electric typewriter and tape recorder? This is the twenties? The clothes are not representative of any period. The street car is not from any period either. I was hoping to find a good flapper dress. I suppose it's a good bundle for those who are fine with a cartoon world but it's disappointing when the artists fail to do their homework and can't deliver an authentic reality.

If you look closely, the certificates on the walls are dated in the late 1960s

Ah, a time traveller to boot! Maybe she's adapted Dixon Hill to her own requirements and is, in fact, a starship captain in real life!

I didn't even realize Bonnie had Down Syndrome as you can't already tell someone has a disability by looking at someone. I remember a man that had a mental disability of some sort used to always ask me to play baseball on my way walking home from school but you couldn't tell he was 'developmentally challenged'  just from looking at him. It is relevant to peoples' lives and it's good to see efforts at integrating them safely rather than locking them away. I love the whole Roaring 20's theme, it's super.

Instant buy for me as I think she is so beautiful.

Not a fan of the bundles but got Bonny and the HD addon as well as the OTT hair.

  • I just snagged the mega bundle. I think the character looks fantastic and I absolutely dig all the items that were in the bundle. The only thought that went into this one was which three bundles did I want for free?

This is absolutely wonderful! The color matching with the hearts and outfit is very eyecatching!  Great posing and choice of lighting!  What background did you use? It's stunning!

Totally love this. She looks like she is coming onto the floor and telling everyone that she is here now and the party can now start!

    Excellent @Petra

Oh my ....  there's so much diversity out in the world, and we get here a polished-up Topsy 8 character (which we get around last xmas)....  I'll never understand that.

I know, I know, there are many, many other repeating artists out there (example: iSourceTextures). This doesn't make it better.

I fail to see any similarities between Bonnie and Topsy...

Did you do something with her skin? Body and face texture in your render seem to work much better together than in the promo images.

Would also like to know this. Also also, please stop posting such lovely renders of her, I'm desperately trying to convince myself that I DON't want her ...

Edit: Too late, bought the Vintage Sleuth Bundle already ... oh my .... Anyway, would still like to know how to make her skin look so good!

Unlike most other developmental disabilities, Down Syndrome does present with typical physical characteristics.

  • I do like that they are listening to the customers and not always cranking out pin-ups, but real people with different diverse attributes

I actually like a lot of the supporting products in the bundles - sure, they might not be 1920's authentic, but they're products I can definitely use for various scenarios.

IMHO Bonnie is (just) a (good) morph from Topsy... they could be sisters / twins... and I always found this close apperance disturbing. And it's in my eyes nothing  that warrants a new character. It just have a smell of "making money fast". But that's only my 2ct on that.

She looks quite nicely presented by you. She reminds me of Natalie Merchant the way you've presented her.

For the Sleuth Bundle, I am not interested in the character nor that much in the Sleuth outfit, but the rest I really like. The new Moonlight dress and texture set add-on are pretty awesome. So, the Sleuth Bundle in the cart with the dress and texture set makes it cheaper to buy the bundle than the items that I want separately. I just look at the character and the sleuth outfit as extras thrown in.

I agree, when I first saw her last night, I thought it had to be a Topsy character. I think the body shape might have something to do with it too. I don't think they look like sisters, but to me they are "of the same type."

  • Instant buy for me. I love the time period and Bonnie 8.1 is a great new model.

a quick render + a version post worked to old timey black and white

also since the accuracy of the clothing has been mentioned.

I would actually like to shout out the Moonlight outfit,Its not a perfect copy of an extant garment or anything, but it is clearly not only inspired by the 20s, but is clearly referencing a pretty specific 1920s style, to the degree that when I saw it I immediately clocked it as a tabard dress,

I fail to see it. Like at all. They are both females of smaller stature, this much is certain. But not a single person mentioned Downs with Topsey, and Topsey is basically a toon. Nothing about Bonnie is toonish. And besides that, there are a million and one super models in this store who could be twins, we have two smaller woman that might look *very mildly* similar and this is what bothers you? Really?

I have lost track of how many characters they have released so far just for 8 and 8.1, but with so many characters it is a given that some will look alike. If this was another clone of Vicky I could understand some agitation, and I have voiced my own agitation with Daz many times. But Bonnie is possibly one of the more unique Daz Originals in a long time who is not a toon. Topsey was fairly unique herself, but she is a toon. Bonnie is so unique that I doubt you will find many 3rd party characters like her, either. That is kind of amazing, to be frank. Most Daz Originals, even the more 'unique' ones, you can find 3rd party characters that fill the same role. You can find scruffy pirate like characters. You can find big dudes, or slackers, or toons, anime, ethnic, I can go and on. But Bonnie to me looks different from them all.

Honestly I think Daz deserves some credit on this one. Bonnie has character, and I can imagine dialing a little Bonnie into other characters can give them that little something different. The Daz gene pool so to speak. And she can do that without turning them into toons like dialing in Topsey would. And you guys know I am probably one of Daz's harsher critics, LOL.

I also love the 1920's theme. It is pretty uncanny, I was just watching some 1920's stuff on youtube a couple days ago, no joke. I binged a bunch of 1920s videos. It was such a fascinating time period. Just think, when 1920 started, the Wright Brothers had made their historic flight only 16 years earlier. Flying machines were still very much in their infancy, and people dreamed of flight. Electricity had been around a while, but there were still many people without it at this time. Cars were still catching on, as the Ford Model T was bringing cars to the masses, but they were still luxury items to many. People would take trips to the city just to see all the electric lights. People would line up to go see moving pictures in theaters. At this time they still did not have audio, so they have bands playing. But soon the first talkies would arrive, and that quickly changed movies. This was a golden age for theater, theater attendence has never been as high as it was back then. Half of the nation's population went to the movies...every week! This was something new for most people of the time, home TVs would not be around until later. Radio and print was all they had.

It also must be noted that the biggest war the world had ever seen had just ended a few years before, a major cause for celebration.

Think back to 17 years ago from today, what has really changed since 2004? Most of the stuff we have is just faster than the same stuff that came before. But in 1920 the world was truly waking up with all these wild new machines that truly changed how people lived.

While I think Bonnie is interesting, I do wish they had gone all in on the 1920s theme with a silent movie starlet with a signature bob hair. This was a hugely liberating time for women, so I am surprised that Daz didn't push it more. Women cutting their hair in 1920s was controversial! Bathing suits were controversial. Some women got in trouble for this stuff. Women had only got the right to vote a decade prior, this quite an exciting time for women's rights as well. With how Daz is all about equality, there is so much more that can be done to celebrate this era. This really is a fantastic time period. There were certainly still issues, but it was an age of progress in many ways.

Knowing how Daz loves to make alternate bundles these days, maybe the 1920s starlett bundle is coming tomorrow.

That sounds a little contradictory to the rest of your post. Wouldn't this theme make us more likely to get another Victioria-like?

Considering they released two bundles today and a mega bundle, I'd consider that unlikely.

  • The character is very cute! Having real life experiences with Down syndrome children it's great to see such a figure. All the Down syndrome individuals I have had the pleasure of meeting and being with are the most loving and wonderful souls.

As far as historical accuracy I don't understand what all the fuss is about. All the years I've shopped here at Daz historical accuracy has not been a strong point of Daz. As someone once put it to me "We're not filming a documentary here." But many of the items can still be useful.

My two cents - the standards of femine beauty in the 1920s were quite different from the modern aesthtic.  An accurate to the 20's character would be rounder in the face and body contours than most DAZ females and, of course, a signature part of the "Flapper" look was being flat chested - pretty much the exact opposite of any of the official DAZ girls, even the teens - and a peaches and cream complexion that had seldom seen the sun.

This is also why I like Bonnie in that she that one character that stands out, from all the pretty much cookie cutter characters I have seen over the years.. Heck it is to a point that one can pretty much tell who the artist is just by the look of the character..  And it is also good to see more 1920's style content, which does not happen often.. smiley

One of the things that does have me wondering, is how some of the posters here have assumed a lot about Bonnie..  That is the other thing in how a lot of the other characters in this and other stores, many of them seem to be very much idealized rather than real world..

Good point, I would have loved to have seen a chracter release like this - or a Gibson Girl, a Pre-Raphelite beauty (I miss Surreality), even some Tudor and Elizabethan styled characters that aren't pirates, (... and perhaps without the dental issues)...
