Not to fault the idea of course - not one bit! As I mentioned if you randomly click, click, click and extrude and sweep the simplest shapes in Hexagon, really weird things happen. I haven't tried it with Mesh Grabber but I assume it's similar.
I often think of "Warren" magazines, Creepy and Eerie which before "Heavy Metal" (say) was where the really weird ideas were... in fact I have some of the illustrations on my mobile devices - free samples from Google Books which carries at least one "anthology" IIRC. And of course the great American illustrators James Bama and Frank Frazetta.
We could also compare the idea of intelligent computers in The Demon Seed say, with Julie Christie where there is actually a bit of modelling done, with "HAL 9000" in 2001: A Space Odyssey with Keir Dullea and Gary Lockwood, where the "evil creature" or "villain" role is at best only implied by the voice of Douglas Rain.
Btw I was always fascinated by the choice of the late William Sylvester as the first "Dr. Floyd" - and a tip of the hat to Roy Scheider - but Sylvester goes back to clay monsters like "Gorgo"! Not too many years between that one, and 2001!
I have yet to see Devil Doll where the "evil" is in a somewhat unremarkable object, but I remember the idea giving me the creeps as a kid. Interesting how many doll and puppet-like morphs there are to choose from nowadays.
(Re: M.E.Winstead) I bought "Mercy Street" which was a relatively brief TV series about the U.S. Civil War, in particular conditions in and around a hospital. I thought she excelled in that one too.
In terms of H.R. Giger like, really weird creatures does anyone have anything to say about 1959's The Tingler.with Vincent Price? I remember rumors about people actually dying of fright (or something like that) but it was probably just clever PR along the lines of Roger Corman ("American International Pictures").
