Thanks Richard. I was just about to post that I encountered none of the doulbing up of items in both bundles issues folks have described.

Er...  the character and his HD add-on are in both bundles.  How is that not the definition of doubling up?

So I wasn't being blind, the motorcycle really doesn't have a trailing arm.  Kids these days, what do they teach them.

There has been hardtail and soft tail, that design could be called loosetail

So...I own every add-on for this promo except for TWO.  So, basically, I'm just screwed?  No additional discount on the bundles, nor on the add-ons...all because DAZ already has my money?  As a long-time customer and PC+ member...that's really disappointing.  I like a lot of what's in the bundles, but putting OLD items that many customers will already own into a promotion, then tying a discount to having to purchase them?  Doesn't inspire me to want to KEEP giving DAZ my money.

Yep.  That's where I've been living for quite a while now... it's not uncommon to open a sale or a "Get with free" section and see nothing at all.  And yeah, it's meant that a lot more of my money now goes to the other companies, with my purchases at Renderosity alone having doubled in recent years.  On the other hand, it's made it really easy to resist getting involved with G8.1 as most of DAZ's incentive offers are pretty worthless as far as I'm concerned.

    Rough Trade! I like.

That being said, did I understand correctly that his dark scalp can't be removed? That's really bad. I hope they retroactively change that, the way that Tara's scar became removable after launch.

Put him on my wishlist for now.

BTW because of the art deco font I first read "Flex Capital" and thought, Wow, they completely lost it with their nomenclature! laugh

"Alex Capital" is still a little silly but not as bad.

Do PAs actually do any homework? A few Google searches will show you that the "classic" gangster car is a 1932 Ford. The sloping back of this car is just all wrong along with other dimensions that just scream a cheap 3D build. Google a 1930 motorcycle and see what they look like for crying out loud. Is it that hard to have a seat from that time period let alone what else has been mentioned? More plastic clothes. Do the PAs photograph actual textiles for clothing textures or do they randomly pick a dark grey color and click on a Photoshop filter?

In general, the land vehicles lately (last 12 months) have all looked like caricatures, with the exeption of the Crown Vic, Beetle and Majestic

  • While I don't have him yet he looks like a great character from the promos so far. He looks like he can be a great mentor character in sci fi or fantasy too

I've been surprised by how tall or bulky some characters were before but not necessarily bad since we can adjust heights and bodies

Alex looks like I'd cinch his waist a little more and dialing up lithe maybe to 20% but that's a style choice and he looks great from what I see

Apparently I have not bought enough bundles recently to trigger bonus discounts like I used to, so why on earth would I bother buying this? Aside from that, the scar and scalp are absolute deal breakers...assuming there ever was a deal here in the first place.

I think Daz has created a very serious problem for themselves. It is fine that they want to entice frequent buyers. But this creates what feels like a penalty for people who don't buy as often. Daz really needs to think about how they can entice less frequent or new buyers to pick up these bundles. I think the management has neglected this aspect of Daz Studio. This place really only goes after a very small core group of people who buy often. If you are not one of those people...well sucks to be you I guess because you are not getting nearly as many perks!

So my question is simple, what is Daz going to do to entice me to get one of these bundles again?

Or those who have already purchased all the previously released 'add ons'.

I looked at the offer, the coupon I got, the bundles, the add-ons (echo everyone else here) and I built a cart. I then read the thread all before my day started. I came back after I finished working, and looked at what had been added to the thread. Saw that there were more add-ons. Most I have also. Some I gave a hard pass before and will again. One I thought how did I miss this in August? But a pose set is the last thing I want to add to my runtime.

And the presentation of that character as a 'Burt Reynolds' wanabe. No. Never enjoyed the actor though I wished him the best, not my thing. The issue with the scar and the permanent hair color, that is annoying. I disliked Michael 4 for that reason with his hair and underpants. The scar, that just limits the character. Oh yeah, no ReadMe either.

We shouldn't have to point out that the 1920s, men (and women) were coming back from the war. And there were scars, seen and unseen, just like today. And they were trying to pick up their old lives, or piece them back together. Along with a massive disruption of people all over the world. (Sounds like today.) And there was great disparety in wealth.

It wasn't just 'Cops and Robbers'. We were heading for the dustbowl and the Great Depression. And more population turmoil. Sound familiar?

Daz, look beyond the trivial and think out of the box on this period. We had great Jazz artists, moving pictures were really getting going, the aviation industry was literally being bootstrapped up by the ex-military fighter pilots (think about Amelia Earhardt), the scientists who were making breakthroughs that started to extend our lives.

And for the love of Pete, do not go to the 'Cowboys and Indians' cliche. We are not in a 1950s white bread world of 'Leave It to Beaver' anymore.

So yeah, my shopping cart is empty. I am saving my money for something where the PA put real thought and effort into their product.

I may collect Pro Bundles but not this pair.

I've seen some [redacted] in my time here. I've seen bikes with non-articulated kick stands. I've seen bikes with extra kick stands. I've seen bikes with one point of articulation. I've seen bikes with an inch of ground clearance. I've seen bikes so out of scale as to be useless. But I've yet to see a bike with no ams holding the rear wheels in place before.

    How did that pass QC?

  • nobody has mentioned the new motorcycle engine block is sticking out so far you can't get your leg round it.  the promo image of all the poses just looks funny with girl in fishnets touching her leg/knee on the engine block.  make me laugh.  no A frame support for back wheel is - just so wrong.

I like the main bundle background image of Alex that they revised cause his scar is on the right side of his face - since the scar is burned in to texture on left side of face, ya know they just flipped the picture but ya can't do that in DS cause it's burned in to texture.

this is just  a bundle of no joy for me.

    Let's do some elementary math.

    According to the front page

Price of the "Goon gateway" bundle: 50.84

Total price of its items 18.9+16.8+10.49+10.49+10.07+7.97=74.72

Hence when bundled, items price are multiplied by 50.84/74.72=0.679.

This way, we can determine that the price of Alex and his HD addon when bundled is (18.9+16.8)*0.679=24.24

We can do the same computation for the "stool pigeon" bundle and we find that the bundle price is obtained by multiplying the item prices by 0.608 and that the alex+HD bundled price is (18.9+16.8)*0.608=21.705

Now, assume that we buy both bundles. We purchase twice Alex and his HD add-on and we should be *at least* refunded of this double purchase. The corresponding amount is either 21.7 or 24.24, depending on the bundle that we consider.(and an average of 22.97)

And as customers buy two instead of one a good commercial practise would be to reward them with an extra incentive discount.

Actually, we get a 20% discount, that is a rebate of (50.84+43.7)*0.2=18.9 (instead of 22.97)

Which means that non only we are not refunded for the double purchase, but the extra incentive discount for buying two bundles is negative....

    WTF daz?

Hmm...  You ever ridden a Triumph Rocket III?  Nah, even the Rocket wasn't that bad.

The bike in the stool pigeon bundle just wouldn't work.  Look at that engine, where would the crank go?  There appears to be no room for it below the cylinders.  Mirrors positioned precisely where they would be obscured by the rider's arms?  Nothing holding the rear wheel?  No cable or hose to the rear brake?  I could go on and on.

As I said earlier, it's just a toon.  And a bad one.

Not that I think this is a good set of bundles or a good buy, but Alex Capital actually does have a readme.

That's how I could look at his file list and see that he has a second facial texture that there doesn't seem to be any way to apply. If the file list is accurate, there's only one material preset for him.

Anyone who has bought him: would you look in his textures directory and let us know what the difference between Face1 and Face2 are? Is one of them unscarred, or is the difference between regular scarred and massively scarred?

  • I think its just eyebrows on and off.

The more I look at it the worse it gets. What are the brake callipers connected to? They're just floating in space.

  • No, what it is is two different types of skin settings. one is default and one is strong.

To be fair to the PA Matari3D, the rest of their products are characters and fabulously done as well.  This appears to be a 1st prop product, least I can tell.  Regardless THIS bike thing is bad, but the rest of this PA's store isn't.

  • Built a new cart. Still does not feel like a good deal. Emptied cart again. Just not in the mood to buy anything anymore for the moment.

    WTF daz?

Add to that, we would have to buy three more items to even get that non really fitting refund...

So in all the time I've shopping here, this it the absolutely worst "deal" ever when seen from the customer side.

And weekend is coming, which means probably no further changes can be made?!?

    Laughable!

I ended up doing what I've done for most of the G8.1 product thus far... I skipped the figure and the HD morphs entirely and only bought the handful of pieces from both sets that I thought might be useful... ie: the office, car, alley, & clothing.  Since that neatly elimates the two most expensive items in both sets as well as the pointless hair and the toon cycle, it quickly brought the price of the the items I wanted down to a very reasonable price tag.  As for the rest of it... let's be real.  We all know that they'll probably be available as free or super discounted add ons with something else in just a few months, just as every other 8.1 figure has been, and I figure zero dollars is about the price I'm willing to pay.  Of course, doing this might not work for some since that means giving up all the various free with purchase items, but since the only things that were left in those cats were ancient items, some of which I've passed over literally thousands of times now, it was hardly a great loss for me.

He does not have a scar free option.  I edited all the textures that had the scars.

Too stylized for me. mal3Imagery makes him look good, but I'd have to be able to get rid of that knot in his nose, the scar and the dark hair on the skin texture.
