No joke, especially if you love making stylized/anime characters. Genesis 1 can't be beat. It also lents itself to NPR rendering much better than what came after. This handy clone, as well as the others that came out before it, give Genesis 1 a LOT of extended value.
@FMCDesigns OK. Thank you. I will try this.
Well, I found that I can get a pretty good match if I put the G8 character into the conventional G3 pose. I selected the clothing item, clicked the 4 little bars in the upper right corner, got the menu. I selected edit, then scene identification, but . . . I don't find a way to change the figure from G3 to G8. Am I misunderstanding the directions? I'll include a couple of screen shots. In the second screen shot, none of those bases at the bottom allow me to type in G8. How would I change the figure from G3 to G8? In the second screen shot there, I tried changing the Auto Fit Base to None and then clicking the 3 little dots beside that entry. Then I tried typing in G8, but it didn't take. I'm on a Macintosh, btw, running Catalina 10.15.7, and using DAZ Studio 4.15.0.30 64-bit.
You won't be typing anything. Leave everything but the Preferred Base settings how Daz populated them to begin with.
Click on the ... button and change the Preferred Base from Genesis 3/Male, to Genesis 8/Male. You may have to scroll down a little, depending on how much you have installed. Unfold the Genesis 8 section by clicking the little triangle next to it and you should find both Female and Male options under there. Click on Male.
Click Accept once you've done this.
For a more permanent solution that avoids some of the pitfalls of autofitting, follow Sickleyield's G3<>G8 conversion tutorial available on DeviantArt and save the converted clothing out as new assets. Totally worth it if you use an outfit a lot!
@Cora Regina: OK, thank you. I'll try this. I'll check out DeviantArt and Sickleyield's tutorial also. EDIT: I had to search for the tutorial. For anyone who may be interested, it is here: https://www.deviantart.com/sickleyield/journal/Tutorial-Convert-Clothing-G3-to-G8-G8-to-G3-686682065
Glad you were able to find it, fortunately that one is an easy search. I'm legitimately not sure what external links will incur the spicy red text anymore, even when they're requested, so I tend to avoid them and just provide "here's what to plug into Google" info. Swear I've seen stuff that wasn't to off-site shops get nuked...
Did things work out for you? I had no trouble at all bringing the MMA outfit over to G8M, apart from the fact that we don't have anything for G8M that works like SY's DeMuscler and Waistband Fixer does for G2M and G3M. There's some moiré patterning over the crotch in more extreme poses, but that isn't surprising and also happens with the outfit on G3M.
I did add some dForce so he didn't have pants-repellant skin, lol, it looked too weird otherwise.
Looks great. Thank you for posting that.
Ok this Genesis Clones for Genesis 8 and 8.1 and Vice Versa is out of the shop now. Can somebody tell me where/ on which site it is now?
Thanks!
the PA vyusur has a shop at renderhub. maybe it will reappear there, or DAZ has bought it and it will come back as DO.
