I am in disbelief that this is a male core character.
Whoa, do those lines next to his mouth (they look kind of like stretch marks) show up from all angles or just this front view? I was waiting to see if there was a different bundle before picking him up, but I'll be rethinking it if those lines are always visible.
I bought the bundle yesterday but I'm definitely considering returning it. For a core character I'm not that impressed with Pablo 8.1, especilly the textures and lips. In addition I'm really disappointed that the $10 coupon doesn't work with new releases.
They are on normalmaps, so yes. To get rid of them you have to remove normalmaps which leads to the face not having much definition.
Base form is ok, but the figure should be published with matching HD morph in the store. I can use HD from other characters (HD from Michael 8 + Skin Folds & Creases) but there are details on the neck that should be accentuated by HD.
Thanks for these pictures! Those lines are unfortunate. Feature-wise, I really like him, but having to do extra work to fix stuff is a bummer.
Thank you all for the additional pictures, loved his promos and will be picking him up.
it's the lips I find completely shoddy. It looks like he has smeared his lipstick on the top lip. Then there is the area above his eyebrows and between his brows. And the marks on either side of his lips. I understand that females at Daz rank males like 100:1 (made up value), but products like these make poor sales in the men's department a self-fulfilling prophecy. We are told that supporting these figures will make it better, which I still do...buuuuuuuuut, c'mon.
If you enlarge his promo pics, the plastic shine to his lips, their lack of definition, and the brown-looks almost painted- creases on his lips are clear. The 'stretch marks around his mouth look strange and so does the crease between his brows.
Sorry, can't get pablo's landing page to link???? In his promo, ( second pic, second row) you can see that they have 'painted' a textured white from his chin and overlapping the lips. Enlarge the second one in the first row, the picture with him looking to the side and holding his arm up with a hand on his shoulder- look at the line of strange texture under his breasts! And in this one, the paint or photoshop texture they used to fake light him is particularly obvious. Not a fan of this promo style at all!!! And that is not even gettiing into the choice to render plastic looking hair.
My guys are wearing those mariachi pants though!
!
Well... between the Mariachi and the Guerrillero outfits, it's good that we have some sombreros in the outfits library that aren't ancient technology.
For my purposes, those are both must-have outfits regardless of other features due to the sombreros.
This is an excellent render. He looks very good here, very realistic. What hair is this?
He's more caucasian than I would have hoped
Since Faber Inc. seems to be the creator, my guess is that Faber probably intended Pablo to be Spanish rather than Mexican. This brings back an old and fondly remembered lab discussion from my past. At the time, the laboratory I worked in had big swings in nationality so that, at different points, the lab might have large numbers of Czechs, Germans, British people etc... There was a particular period when we had a large number of Hispanic and Latin people. There was an ongoing discussion about how Americans used the terms, Hispanic and Latino, since it is not a racial definition (i.e. Cameron Diaz is Caucasian and Hispanic, Zoe Saldana is Black and Hispanic, Bruno Mars is Asian and Hispanic). We had a couple from Argentina; He was native born but his family were Czech immigrants, she was native born but her family were Irish imigrants. Thus they were both Hispanic (born in a Spanish speaking country) and Latino (born in the Americas)! Faber is based in Germany, i think, so he probably would use Spanish models. Pablo is athe spitting image of a Spanish guy I know.
I'm shocked to find out this is one one of Faber's, as I normally truly love his characters. I think I have most of them, Calvin and Anderson being my faves. Might be the reason why I really like the body shape, but the face is not on par with his other characters unfortunately :(
Spaniards are varied as a historical people as well... including Germanic tribes like the Visigoths (as well as all the rest, like Berbers, Celts, Romans, etc.).
Mexico has remnants of that Spaniard system, with upper class people tending to be of that more European-blooded ancestry.
A more European-looking Mexican person is also Mexican, in my experience.
Of course, Daz creations tend towards more Germanic, I suppose? I can understand the wish for a more "ethnic" Mexican guy shape, I guess. That would be more "varied" or "diverse".
I think Pablo's shape is good, however, so it does not bother me compared to the texture concerns.
I'm actually from Mexico (born and raised) and I don't understand all this talk about Pablo not looking like a Mexican. I was just talking with Esid (my brother and, as such, also Mexican) and we both agreed he look like someone we would see walking down the street. As with the rest of the world, we are varied here as well in terms of skin color, body type and face shape. For context, I have a friend (also 100% Mexican) who is white and looks very much like someone from France or Germany. When I was stuying in Canada, I was often asked if I was Korean by Asian students. Later on, when I studied in Italy, I was asked if I was from Egypt. So this just goes to show that outside of building a stereotype, I don't get what people would be expecting a "Mexican" to look like.
I know that sometimes I see Korean dramas/films and some of the actors/actresses feel like they could be Mexican to me. This situation also reminds me of when my mom came to visit me in Canada (Victoria BC) and a chinese-canadian guy didn't believe she was mexican because she was white, lol. Just my two cents in regards to that part of the discussion.
PS: I agree in that I'm not crazy about the expression marks near the corner of his lips, but I like Pablo's shape quite a lot!
There is something super funky about his lips.
The only Mexican character that comes to my mind is Speedy Gonzales, and he doesn't look anything like Pablo
Ps. Sorry, but if you want to hit me, you have to swim across the Atlantic.
Hahaha you know, despite Speedy being a stereotype, he is actually quite beloved here XD. And I'm not saying that just because my last name is also Gonzálex XD.
Also from Mexico here (from Guadalajara actually, where tequila and mariachis are from), and I can validate what FenixPhoenix said, Pablo does look like someone walking just outside my house and Speedy Gonzales is a very well-loved character here. Loved the bundle btw
I went ahead and got him with the HD morph. I'm very happy with him after making a little tweak to his face texture to make his upper lip a little more defined. No post-processing or other changes made other than that, but I think it makes a pretty big difference and was the only thing that was really bothering me, personally. If I'm allowed to, and anyone wants it, I can post the skin file.

I don't have any issues with his back-story and how light he is, I had just personally wanted a bit more middle-value skin variety. I've got Zale, Wolfgang, and Torment, of 8.1 so far.
There's also that song the drunk mice were singing: "In Guadalajara, we go to catch Gonzales...."
Yeah, I got the impression that a bit of tinkering in Photoshop would fix the issue with the inaccurate lip line. Annoying that it would be necessary though. The texture doesn't line up with the sculpt.
He ends up looking like he's been drinking rasberry Kool-aid.
Totally makes sense!
I had a cat named Speedy Gonzales ... You could not close a door fast enough to keep him out.
