Horo really cool and very nice
Rembrandt really like the ice picure.......the windmills and the temple aren't they really 2d picture objects (' rather than picture terrains') with the background erased? if so they aren't really spuddyfications cos I don't use that method

The terrain is self made, the material from the Pro Materials library, the water from High Resolution Terrains 4 and the sky by the VC-RealSun02 HDRI from HDRI Captured Volumetric Skies.

Spuddy - nope, they are not 2d pictures . But let me explain that in a moment.
Horo - That is a very nice terrain. I have just started to 'play' some more with terrain myself. the next render is a -very small- example. The terrain material is very 'metallic' looking. I like that!

A- For this render I needed an empty eagles nest and as everyone knows, Google is our friend. I found just the thing awith as an added bonus a white background:
B- As you can see, the nest is mostly a vertical erm... thing. But thanks to Spuddy I can now Spuddify any and all pictures -not only terrains- into a 3d terrain.
Lets get to work. Apply the picture to a mountain like this:
c- Now it gets interesting. I only need the nest and I must loose the white background. But with Bryce that's easy:
Woohoo!
This is a little used but very usefull method of editing out all white in the background (or all the black in a background) .
Use the slider(s) and fiddle around with it untill you are content with the result:
D- Et voila, one eagles nest in 3d , well... sort of.
e- Now, lets scale this down a litlle. pom, pom, ppom, lalala:
f- And now we only have to grab a digital paintbucket and slab on our original eagles nest picture as a material:
g- Now lets go see what we got:
H- Yup, one eagles nest coming up for the -rather dashing- gentleman at table four:
Ladies and gentlemen, let me present you: "Eagles nest"
As you can see, with this method it is relatively simple to not only Spuddyfy horizontal terrain but also vertical objects.
That makes it easy to get those impossible to find objects for your renders. (tip: for editing photo's to black or white background, you can use https://www.photopea.com/ )
Terrain on the left is my own design. The eagles are freebies and the rest is pretty standard.
Rembrandt - thanks for the explanation, something to try this weekend, awesome render, very nicely done.
Rembrandt - looks great. Yes, I also use images sometimes, convert them to 16-bit greyscale and invert them if necessary (ground black, height white).

Mermaid - Publish all this? Hmm.. My small contributions to this forum aren't all that serious. Mind you, I have lots of fun making them, the stories and the renders both. We could make an effort in baking up an easy to browse website dedicated to all the nice renders publiished here from all of us?
Spuddy - No apology necessary my friend. Your spuddyfying technique has opened up a ton of fun new experiments and ideas. Thank you for that! And yes, you are right, always check if the piucture you 'borrow' has a creative common license and isn't copyrighted. A good reminder for all of us.

Sorry, no story with this one. let's just call it "Surf's up!"
The sea is a spuddyfied terrain, the plants are all standard Bryce. I plucked the standard Bryce flowers from their stem and clustered them for a better effect.
The butterflies are freebies and as for the seagulls, ah well, I got lazy and slapped in a 2d plane.
The sky is a sunless hdri.
Rembrandt - very nice view out to the surf.
The terrain is self made, the material from High Resolution Terrains 3. Sky and ambient light by the AltoStratusSky HDRI (by Colm Jackson - made available to Daz 3D PAs in July 2020 for testing; here adapted for Bryce).

From the Galactic handbook
Planet L'Haar
Eventhough still considered to belong to the Gaean reach, the planet L'Haar is located on the very edge the starcluster called the Gorodan Swirl.
L'haar was discovered in 1214 by the infamous locator Whim Faresh who sold the deed to the planet to the Congregation of the painfull lady of Anders.(CPLA)
The congregation landed in 1216 and soon started building two domed red-glowing cathedrals on the slopes of the only mountain on L'Haar which got the name The Lady's Whip.
On the foot of the mountain the city of Donkh was founded to fascilitate the building and the upkeep of the two cathedrals.
Members of the CPLA would attend an evening sermon in one of the two cathedrals and -to prove their devotion- walk and climb barefoot to the other cathedral to attend the morning sermon just before sunrise.
Those who didn't make the morning sermon on time would be shunned from society and uneligable for marriage untill they would make the pilgrimage in a timely manner.
The more times a CPLA member will make the pilgrimage in time, the more K'palau -an undefinable form of status- he or she will collect.
Citizens with high K'palau are instantly recognized by other CPLA members by undefined means and are always treated with utmost respect.
After the schism within the congregation in 1425, which left the faction of The Bleeding Turnips in charge of the two cathedrals, outsiders were permitted to take on the challenge of the pilgrimage.
Adventurers, mystics, those seeking for a challenge and the curious are more than welcome to try.
Taking part and making the pilgrimage on time as non-member of the CPLA will not result in any increase of K'palau for outsiders.
When visiting the city of Donkh to partake of the pilgrimage, please observe the following rules:
You may start at any of the two cathedrals.
The evening sermon needs to be attended.
Be on time.
Take off your shoes and socks upon entering the cathedral.
(your shoes and socks will be waiting for you in the entrancehall at the top cathedral)
At the third bell before the morning-sermon all remaining shoes are taken away and incinerated.
Do not speak during the pilgrimage.
Consuming alcohol is forbidden on-planet.
Lodgings can be found throughout the city of Donkh, any house in the city has one or more small rooms available for tourists.
There is one spaceport on the south side of the city of Donkh
Landing fees are cheap but beware, customs are extremely strict on banning alcoholic beverages from the planet.
The city is a spuddyfied cut-off from the original mountain but combined with mapgen1 hightmap from pro landscapes 1 to give it a 'blocky' feel.
Beach and sea are a spuddyfied terrain. It was difficult to place this one correct, it took some fiddling about but I am happy with the result.

rembrandt horo and adbc super scenes.....lovely material on your mountains horo which is a lovely terrain....rembrandt not sure about the left planetary object i would ditch it and flip the image post work
so the dark is on the left for some reason the brain prefers this esp if you are right handed I would also tidy up those margins and not have the sand such a hard st line....... would you allow me to show you the effect by making some quick rough adjustments

Rembrandt – so cool the renders and stories are for the Forum, keep them coming. Both The Surf’s up and the Planet L’Haar are very nicely done with a nice story with Planet L’Haar

Spuddy – superbly done renders, the terrain and material are perfect for the scenes.
Between trying Spuddy’s method and doing a challenge entry, no success on both, I took a break and I checked out some of David’s tutorials and did this one using a Wings 3D object an icosahedron twisted loop and Hdri from Deep Space Hdri 2.

mermaid - thank you. Yes, sometimes whatever you attempt, it won't work as you expect. The icosahedron came out great and it is nicely presented.
The fore- and background terrains were made in the TE and given materials from Pro Materials, the grass is also a terrain with my own material and the stones in the foreground a tree. A Sassafras tree made with Arbaro trice instanced with my own material. Sky and ambient light by the SkySC15 HDRI, the key light by the sun.

Horo - Here is a tip for you if you do find yourself on L'haar: there is nothing in the CPLA dogma about wearing rubber wellingtons.
Spuddy - But ofcourse you can adjust anything you don't like about that render! I'll make it a bit easyer for you: Here is the render itself.
I have never tried to link a Bryce render, I hope it comes over allright with material and all. (if not I can always delete it later on) Have fun with it and that goes for anyone else who wishes to play with it. After all -with a slight wink to Terry Pratchett:- "Bryce is the most fun thing anyone can do on his own".
Your city renders are a delight in and of themselves.
Mermaid - O wow!! Absolutely beautifull. Lighting, background and material are superbly matched! Great stuff.

I hate going out without posting a render but it has been a few busy days for me so please forgive me.
