Look like she is back with a new alias, Ravenstone, on rendererosity, and she just released a new character few days ago.

Anyway, does anyone know what hair is this?

This is similar https://www.daz3d.com/nirv-medium-straight-hair-for-genesis-8-females
I have seen a few artists selling on both Daz and Rendo with success, so why would one drop everything and move to the other, makes no sense to me. Just play by the rules, and everyone profits.
It can be easier to work with only one store. Different stores have different rules and requirements (for example promo pics don't have the same size between Rendo and Daz, readme is different, packaging rules might be too) and different submission processes, so creating for multiple stores can be a hassle. You also need to keep up with what happens at each of those stores, which takes time. You have to get used to different store software to monitor your sales, and will have extra work to consolidate your data. Moreover having revenue from several sources also most probably makes taxes more complicated.
Exclusive vendors may also get better offers too.
Yeah, on the banner for Ravenstone's store, it says now exclusive to Renderosity so maybe there was an incentive to be exclusive.
I'd already wishlisted the character before I learned Ravenstone was RareStone, she looks awesome I think. But I'm still kind of on the fence about her, there are no separate brows or a brows-off-texture as far as I can see - and weirdly, the readme says one cannot use her in commercial renders. That is rather strange, isn't it? I always assumed that if you pay for a character, then of course you can do commercial pics with it. I understand it's different with freebies, but purchased products?
Sometimes people pick this option uploading things to Rendo because they think it means "cannot be used as a merchant resource". Whatever you purchase from any store it's the store licence what matters.
...agreed, the usage statement is odd as it usually is reserved either for characters who are an exact likenesses of a real life person or items that are an accurate model of a RL licensed and branded product like the "Teuf Teuf", which is essentially a Citroen 2CV but not sold under that name, bearing the real world company's name and logo and changed just enough to avoid IP infringement .
I just contacted customer support at rendo about this as there is zero point in me buying something I can't use commercially, so if and when I hear back I'll post in this thread what they say.
Good idea, I PM'ed Ravenstone as well asking if maybe the licence wording was a mistake. Will also post any answers!
I bought her and was able to do one render yesterday. It doesn't show-off any of her body or anything and I would share it, except I can't upload the render. I found her nice to work with, the eyebrows are not so much of a issue for me, though I also would like a 'no brow' option. The poses that come with and the pack also are good for a simulation and seem like real people's movement.
What are you talking about? What rules are you implying Rarestone did not play by?
Not a problem IMO. Having a brick and mortar business is far more complicated. I'm sure people can handle the details in order to make more money, unless the extra amount made isn't worth the hassle. That's a different story.
really ... that's bizarre!
No one said they didn't play by the rules.
I think that is an incorrect, misleading statement. My understanding is that the store license is the contractual/usage foundation in the absence of vendor alterations to it. In other words, vendors can add on top of it, at least at Rendo.
That agrees with my understanding of the matter.
Well that's the point, some vendors obviously don't consider it worth the hassle. To each their own.
Well, no answer from Ravenstone on the matter of the licence yet, but it's been not even a day. @memcneil70, I'd love to see that render of her!
"All Renderosity
products use this STANDARD LICENSE as of April 1, 2014, unless products specifically have
"EXTENDED LICENSE" in the title."
Taken straight from their readme.
The extra icensing information was removed from Ravenstone products. It was a mistake. Provided it even was there because Ravenstone also has freebies on Rendo. The option is designed for uploading freebies.
And this is getting worse dealing with their customer service. They just responded with, "It would be best to send the vendor of the item a sitemail and confirm the usage allowances. If you find that you are unable to use the item, please ask them to send us an email with the order number and name of the item they are approving a refund for please?"
So that means if the license isn't for commercial, I have to hope Ravenstone sends Rendo an email to refund me. Looks like I'm going to not be shopping there anymore. I never did before so I'm not missing anything. I've never had an issue with Daz's customer service. We'll see what Ravenstone says, if they respond.
If you manage to get to Ravenstone don't forget to ask for which of the two products the licensing is because it's a bundle of freebie poses (also available separately and those are explicitly labeled as not for commercial use) and the character you paid for.
Which probably is the root of the confusion.![laugh laugh](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/teeth_smile.png)
Oh good point. In my email I didn't mention anything about the poses, just the character, so hopefully that's clear but I will make sure. But I'm looking the character's readme file that I downloaded right now and I don't see anything regarding poses, it's clearly just the character, and it does state, "This product may NOT be used in commercial renders." So I don't know.
This is literally the first character I ever got from Rendo with any kind of usage limitations in the readme file. Usually there are ownership declarations for assets used for creating products, but nothing about the allowed use. As the allowed usage is handled by the paragraph 3 a/b of their Standard License.
I'm morbidly curious of the outcome because by selling anything through the sites like Daz or Rendo one does have to accept the site terms. Except that readme can be taken as going against their licenses.![laugh laugh](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/teeth_smile.png)
That is very strange in the readme. Normally you can't resell the product, but not to have any right to make a work that you could use comercially!!
I was thinking of getting her, no not so much.Even the pose packages have the same limitation.
@tsroemi, I am trying again. I reduced it in size and saved it as a jpeg this time. Maybe that will let her render load?
I just hope it doesn't disappoint you. Well, I tried, and failed. I even shortened the name and it won't load.
That's so weird, have you had this problem before? I seem to recall that people in other threads also sometimes complain about not being able to upload pictures ...
Edit: Still no reply from Ravenstone, sadly.
