Wow, I'm embarrased. I'm using the very latest 4.15.1.96 Public Beta and I'm absolutely clueless as to what the big change in DAZ Studio is.

Now I'll have to go take a closer look at the panes/panels that are available!

Looking at what's in the beta I'm also not really sure what I should be getting excited about. Unless it has to do with iray supporting volumes or something now.

So far, the only thing I see different is that the menus at the top are all out of order. LOL. IK maybe?

She is probably not talking about the Public Beta.

There is a non-public beta? Wouldn't that be called an alpha?

Nope, alpha is usually something barely functional.

I think she is talking about the Private Build.

No, you can have public or private betas.

Beta means that all features have been implemented and there's already been a first round of testing to remove the biggest bugs, not that it's public.

Which holiday is this before? I know America has one called Thanksgiving, I think the next one is before next Christmas, are there any others?

I'll look forward to seeing what is in the next version, but also keep a copy of my current Studio installer in case my ageing computer can't handle it.

As long as it is non-laggy and backwards-compatible (contents), I welcome every update.

Probably talking about the major holidays. Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years.

I got the impression that the latest beta versions were all about Mac so I have not bothered with them. Ironically, I sold my beloved iMac so that I could upgrade my Windows PC which I use almost exclusively for DAZ Studio. Nevertheless, my old iMac would never have been able to accommodate a RTX 3090. I'm not sure I see the point in getting excited about DAZ Studio updates which have little significance to my setup.

As for the web site (especially the forum) ... just so slow. "Waiting for ingest..." is something I end up staring at for minutes.

Hi Lotheran. I haven't really been absent (still complaining about stuff around here, hehe), but I've been slow to make new art for a while. 3D isn't as interesting to me as much as it was before, partly because of the frustrating workflow required to do anything other than just pose and render in Studio. Hope you're well.  :)

...same here though that has been offset by the addition of having to buy a bundle or more than one new release to unlock discounts and freebies.

...what, no sale events for World Toilet Day (Nov. 19th). Buy Nothing Day (Nov. 26th), or National Maple Syrup Day (Dec 17th)?

Squid? Well then, baited breath would be appropos then. Used that to catch sharks before.

I don't know what they consider to be an exciting update. Maybe it actually will be. But I think they should focus their efforts making the software easier to use. I don't like typing the first letter of an item in a list, only to find out that rather than quickly selecting that item, the keypress has moved everything in the scene. I don't like how, if DAZ Studio is set to load some scene other than the reguar default, it prompts you so save on exit even though nothing changed. And they really should try to see how many things they can make multithreaded. It's not pleasant to have to wait for DAZ Studio to finish something and see that only 25% of your CPU is being used. Another thing they should do, that is probably simple, is have a setting to change the thread priority to lower than normal at startup, so when DAZ Studio starts rendering with the CPU it doesn't kill the whole computer.

  • a small part of my wishlist which might as well be toilet paper is

    • vertex colours (like Zbrush polypaint or Mandelbuber3D mesh has for examle no UV mapping needed)
    • a robust FBX importer that does rigging (I suspect that is undesired though) otherwise at least a Blender bridge back
    • obj import as separate meshes when an obj has them
    • better cutout opacity map rendering for Filament
    • ambient glow for filament if not emission
    • target tracking, animation paths
  • I'll be happy if the dForce engine gets updated so I'll have to redo dForce kernals & hopefully get that fixed again lol.
