Simon JonesYesterday at 08:36There is a huge community of macOS users out there, many with 3DConnexion mice used in other applications. From my research I have concluded that Daz Studio has not, yet, created the necessary plugin for Daz Studio, on macOS, to work with the 3DConnexion mouse. By creating this plugin and supporting this device on the macOS you are able to tap into this large community and further this platform.
On the page describing the installation of the 3DConnexion mouse there is no reference to specific operating systems leading users to believe that there is no difference in support.
I hope that the information here will encourage you to create the overlooked plugin for this platform and at the very least that the provided documentation can be updated to offer advice to specific operating systems.

Jared NielsonYesterday at 22:09Hi Simon,
I'm more than happy to open a feature request for this.
Jared
I bumped into this crazy undo behavior again! Not sure if they solved the whole undo tracking thing globally in 4.8 then the crazy-annoying bug re-surfaced in 4.9. But it's back, in Perspective view cam mode. So scene/ character setup is back to 4.6 generation...fun?
Rigging and weight painting with this kind of workflow is just pure torture. Isn't the whole point of a 6DOF mouse support = cutting down excessive camera navigation clicks. Yet the heftiest grunt work in Daz Studio it fails to work properly...
I've just submitted another bug report on this 3D mouse tracking undo issue.
Dev Jared has confirmed bug and submitted bug report.
I cherish the fact that Daz Studio has 3Dconnexion support. Lack of 3D mouse support is why I don't stick around iClone or Carrara much. I'm not the only intermediate users who swear (and live by) 3Dconnexion as a controller. Once you/'ve tasted it no going back. The best CG mouse ever. Big nature scene, architectural scene, or just orbit and fuss over your Genesis's specific body part. Such a joy!
No kidding, the amount of clicks it saves, modeling, surfacing, shading, or rigging and animating. It's a matter of 360 clicks per session or 5000 clicks per session. It adds up fast!
So Daz3D dev please keep the 3Dconnexion support up to date!
I just upgraded to Daz Studio, 4.9.270 (on Windows 10). and my Space Navigator does not work in the application. It still works in other applications, including Hexagon.
Mythmaker, are you indicating that a bug report has already been submitted for this problem?
cdordoni, my submitted (and dev confirmed) bug report is specifically 3D mouse still tracking undo, in latest 4.9.2.70.
3D mouse has otherwise worked for me between 4.5 > 4.7 > 4.8 > 4.9.2.7 transitions with little issue. (Win7 64bit)
Thanks for that clarification, guess Im having a different issue.
Jared:
Thanks for submitting the request. Is there anything that can be done to help convince the powers that be to expedite this?
~ Russ
Can someone who has the windows version tell me what functionality it provides. I got a space mouse on my OS X machine, and I've written a couple of unrelated plugins for Studio. Maybe I'll give it a shot in my copious spare time.
That would be fabulous, Esemwy! All it has to do is manage the standard camera controls... orbit, pan, zoom...
Let me know if there is anything I can do to help, e.g. testing, etc.
Odd, mine works fine in Win10 and 4.9.270.
Update: Go here instead.
OK, I have something beta-ish. For whatever reason zoom doesn't work right now, but most everything else is there. There's no configuration dialog either.
I'm looking for suggestions of other/configurable functionality.

Also, I need somebody to tell me the names or numbers of the buttons on the other models of SpaceMouse. If you download and run the program below (helpfully provided with the SDK), it will tell you what the space mouse is doing when you press a button.

To install the plugin, just unzip it and drop the .dylib into your plugins folder. The client test can be run from anywhere once it is unziped, but you'll have to give it permissions to run since it's not signed by Apple.
I'll create a thread with detailed documentation once we have the functionality nailed down and decide where it should be hosted permanently.
A generic question about the functionality of these devices to you guys with experience:
Can you set it up to pose models? So you can select a bone, and then use the 3D mouse to manipulate the 3 axes (for expample bend, twist and back-forward)?
With my plugin, no, or at least not yet. The system software, though, does allow you to program arbitrary keystrokes/mouse movements in application profiles. I didn't have much luck with that method and abandoned it early on. YMMV. I can't speak for the Windows plugin.
I'd like to have the Spacenavigator working on daztudio for mac too!
I've placed it on the shelf since I switched from windows to osx... it's a shame there's no support...
I also need 3DConnexion support on macOS.
Well its 2020 and I am thinking of getting a 3d mouse finally but I am wondering if this issue of studio tracking every movment in the undo stack is still unresolved? I dont have another 3d app I would use a 3d mouse for.. Dare I hope that Daz has resolved this issue? If I understand it right it would use up your undo's very quickly... and I like to make mistakes!
I love my 3DConnexion mouse but I have to report that, indeed, Daz Studio tracks each and every 3D mouse movement in the undo stack, even if it's through the perspective view that you're working and not through a camera view.
Ahh well. Thanks. I may get one anyway.
So I decided to get a small wireless space mouse since I use my windows machine for most of my Daz work.I also wish it was implamented on the mac version of Daz. Following some of the suggestions of you good people (thankyouI) managed to get it to slow down enough so I will eventually get used to using it.
I do have a question though; currently when i nudge the mouse even slightly is sends an object ( or the camera depending on what I have chosen to edit) rolling off in almost perpetual motion. that in itself is not bad for me as I would like to use it to move objects quickly around a scene. but they just keep on spinning or moving more than one would usually want. So, is there any existing command, perhaps an animation command that would just tell a moving object to stop? if so it seems you could program a buttion, say on the 3d mouse or on your main mouse, to issue that command and stop the continuing movement, kind of like a break. Just a thought since this otherwise incredible tool is not currently on the radar for daz. I bought it with the intention of learning how to use it in blender or hexagon if I could not get it to work effectively in Daz studio.
Any of you more techie guys or gals know if this might work?
Hey there, @Chakradude. The problem you're probably having with the object moving at a slight bump and never stopping might be caused by a DeadBand(or lack thereof). Basically the mouse is sensitive, sometimes too sensitive, and after being pushed or even just tapped it never get's back to "True Zero" but rests at a small value. The fix for this is to establish a small DeadBand in the middle of the mouse so it will treat that small value as zero. This will also keep things from moving just by putting your fingers on the mouse.
On Windows you need to create or modify the Global.xml file. You'll find it, or create it, under
%appdata%\3Dconnexion\3DxWare\Cfg
Literaly copy/paste that (percent signs and everything) into Windows Explorer's address bar to take you right too it. The "%appdata%" is a placeholder for your main drive, username etc. For me it translates to "C:\Users\Windamyre\AppData\Roaming" For you, it'll be different.
Once there look for a file called Global.xml. Open it up and look for a part called <Settings> You'll want to stick this line in somewhere:
The 75 is the size of the DeadBand and can be customized.
If you don't have a file like that, you'll have to create one. Here's mine for a sample to base it off of. You'll also see where I stuck the Deadband setting.
