Only save the clothing item, not V4.

So remove v4 and save it how/where? Do I need to clear the scene and load just the dress asset?

Save the dress as a duf. You should then be able to use the RSSY script to convert the dress to G8F. V4 is no longer needed and can be deleted.

I'm gonna end up losing this client if I don't figure this out. Very stressful.

Hope you've checked your PMs by the time you see this. If that didn't help maybe consider these guys. They are for Genesis and all [well most of them] the clothes for M4 and V4 will auto-fit to Genesis -- however there is this inexpensive set which is for Genesis and it has a tunic. The sandals were in another product and the free Genesis beard is another product. Their hair comes with the characters - simply colours.

Pardon the atrocious lighting. {and the fact that these were using 3Delight Shaders and the render is in Iray}.

  • Doesn't SickleYield have a V4/M4 shape for G8? Wouldn't you then be able to put the dress directly on the dialed in shape? Other shenanigans would still be needed, but that might cut out a step or two.
And I may be completely wrong/crazy!

Bugga Boo is the body style of the character needed for this client. I still have to figure out how to dial her in using GM8 for the male characters. So I'll be converting the man's Angelic Robe, too, once I figure this out. This is a biblical storybook. That particular dress with wide sleeves is the style I need. Plus, I've already invested more than he paid for the project. There has to be a way to figure this conversion out and I am sure I'm the one doing it wrong.

I have a clone but am still being taught how to use it. It isn't just the clone use that's the challenge here. I have to convert a v4 dynamic dress prop and rig it to v4 first so either the RSSY script or the transfer tool will allow it to eventually 'fit' G8F, then ... that dress has to morph with the figure into the appropriate poses during an animated drape transitioning from G8F shape to Bugga Boo character and interacting with a dForce veil from another set. And I'm already late with the project and am feeling the beginning stages of panic, lol.

Y'all are being great and so very patient with me. It just sounded so doable at first. And I realize I'm asking a lot of y'all.  I'm willing to gift the Angelic Gown & Bugga Boo to whoever can pull this off and describe to me in detail how to do this myself so I can do it again for Joseph. But first, I need to check out Catherine3678ab's PM, who's generously sent me a tutorial. Let me try that and get ya'll an update.

  • Good luck! I wish you well.

The tut Catherine3678ab sent me via PM covers what to do with V4 conforming clothes (huge help ... pictures and all). I still need to successfully convert the Angelic Gown dynamic prop to a V4 conforming dress so I can get to that step. Again, I am willing to gift the gown to the person confident (although I know there is no guarantee) they can both convert and rig the gown and provide dummy-proof instructions so I can repeat the process. I'll add Bugga Boo if you can take it the whole way and show me how.

Plugging in my Thinking Cap; I'm willing to give it a try.

    1. The Dynamic Prop for V4 does NOT have to be made into a conforming dress. Nope. I don't know how it looks when just loaded on V4. Like if it's in the air, or looking nice on V4?

If it's in the air, then run the Dynamic Clothing Control to drape it onto V4.

Then HIDE V4 {and everything else in the scene except the one clothing piece}. Export that out as an .obj file -- use the Carrara export settings. No groups are required.

Clear the scene, import in that new clothing .obj file using again the Carrara import settings, Load in G8F, NOW if you want to find that hidden V4 morph and dial it in, go ahead. Select the .obj clothing piece and from the hamburger menu on the Scene Tab, select the Transfer Utility ... Donor is G8F, "current shape" - target is the clothing .obj. Put a check mark in the option to REVERSE SHAPE or whatever it's called {D/S and browser no play nice together on my system}. Down at the bottom, check mark to add a smoothing modifier, check mark for to get some bones there - from the drop down list of every option under the Sun, pick something sensible like for "wardrobe" "full body" ... click Accept.

Select G8F, dial OUT that V4 shape, the clothing should be following and now shaped for G8F's body. Select the clothing: File > Save As > Support Assets > Figure/Prop > ... give it whatever name you want, saving it to an appropriate location: People > Genesis 8 Female > Clothing > Conversions? your name? whatever.

You have then made one gown for G8F. You can try adding a smoothing modifier and running a simulation -- hopefully it will drape nicely for you.

When you lift the arms up without a simulation, it's going to look yucky. Needs pJCMs for the armpits. And yes I know how to make those. And yes I would require the gown and Bugga Boo IF you would also like some shape morphs for Bugga Boo in the gown.

eta: a couple of pics - I tried this with a Poser Prop file that I think we all got free sometime ago in the weekly give aways.

    Thank you.

  • Wow, 2 days no forum, 502.

I've been wanting to drop in here and say that, do NOT buy the old dynamic for D/S clothing items IF wanting to convert them BECAUSE they do not hold morphs. You can think you've made the morph, you can see the file that is the morph in the data folder BUT it would not display with the garment it was made for. Totally weird. I've made a lot of morphs and given all the exporting/importing/exporting/importing steps I went through to get  a nice "Angel Gown" over to G8F ... it simply would not accept/recognize any morphs. So I moved on to Plan B which the OP is in receipt of [I hope] so BuggaBoo has a gown. A gown that will hold/recognize morphs and can be used with dForce.

  • I've started work also on a tutorial -- as the forums and apparently some other internet services are a tad wonky, my intention is to release tutorials over at Sharecg, eventually ;-)

The gown is so cute and so much more effective than what I was trying to do. Thank you so much. You should package it and sell it in the store.

I'm very happy that you like it. I rather doubt the Company is that interested in um, hmm, decent clothing.

Market it as a nativity package and you'll get some buyers ... and if not here, there are other options.

  • That's an idea, thanks.

Doodling around, made a couple morphs for a masculine figure, any interest?

Absolutely interested! So how'd you make Boo a boy?

As far as poses go, I'm just using G8F poses and tweaking them to suit Boo's body style.

The author sent feedback. He loves it but would like the head bigger, so I've made it 300% larger. I'll send renders of that, too, if it helps. Do you plan to make a shawl and veil for her and the drape for him, too, for a set, as I suggested? You are definitely good enough that people will buy it if you make it. Turn your hobby into a side income.

Okay then, I'll package up this particular morph for everybody that wants it.
I will caution that it is meant for use with Bugga Boo ... without Bugga Boo dialed in, it looks pretty silly.

    How did I make Boo a boy. It's a bit of a story ;-)

I have a list of things I'm working on, so I may make more for her but can't promise at the moment. When I'm making the gown over to fit him a little better, I expect I could add in the drape for him as well.

So far people buying my work have been rather non-existent. It would be nice for sure. I certainly have no intention of releasing this gown for free -- it's been too much work putting all these pJCMs into. I think you'll like them though because they should also help with the draping in certain poses. Obviously there are always some poses that long skirts just are not going to look great with.

Her head 300% bigger, hmm ... I can dial that and see what happens, not sure by itself that's such a great idea.
