New Daz Studio release incoming.

Hey everyone I just wanted to pop in here and announce that the latest public build of Daz Studio (4.16.1.40) is a release candidate for the next version of Daz Studio. This means that the next release should be coming up real soon here and it has passed our internal testing. It has also been tested with a bunch of you that participate in the early beta testing, so I'd like to hand out a thank you to all of those testers right now.
For those of you wanting to test out this release before it makes it to the next version of Daz Studio: remember to update your Nvidia drivers if you are using Iray and we have changed how ghost lights are handled in Iray. Ghost lights are moving from using a bug in Iray to actually having support so old ghost lights will break (as they have broken before in previous Iray updates, somebody's bug is someone else's feature) but ghost lights built for these new versions of Iray should be supported for a long time to come.
On another note, I just want to put it out that that we are hiring, so if you want to be the next Daz Studio Developer or a Web Developer be sure to ship us out a resume.

Thanks for the heads up (and the hard work you're putting into developing the software).
Regarding the ghost lights, great, that means trying to use my setup location scenes requires redoing the lights... Is there a tutorial somewhere on how to fix the existing ghost lights?
What version of the nVidia driver is required?
Will the ghost light kits I purchased still work or be updated?
Will the product pages of extant ghost lights be updated to reflect their limited compatibility?
Probably caveat emptor; we've got a 30 day return policy?
Time for PAs to update their plugins as there will be some broken ones mainly due to the changes in the scripting, zev0's XTransfer is one of them!
Most definitely! I need XTransfer & Shape Splitter & Rig Adjust PA products to be QAed & bug fixed with the latest version of DAZ Studio.
I just did a 2Kx2K test iRay CPU render and it converged at quality 1 at 95% in 971 iterations in just over 2 hours. That is blazing fast compared to past implementations of the iRay renderer. The CPU is a Zen 3 AMD Ryzen 7 5700G. It has an integrated Radeon Vega 8 at 5nm process integrated but that's not a factor as it's not used.
He said you have to update your driver. If the ones you purchased are newer they may be updated but that is up to the PA to do that made the pack.
Thanks for the heads up. I saved a copy of the DIM files for 4.16.1.34 just in case, but so far 4.16.1.40 is working well. It even appears to have fixed a shader mixer bug that broke a purchased shader product in 4.16.1.34. Thanks for that last minute correction. I'm using Studio Driver driver 511.17.
Does the log file include the verbose vram usage info?
In all the latest betas it is missing which makes optimizing scenes a lot harder than in previous DS versions.
See: https://helpdaz.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/398749
..will it have an updated version of Iray that fixes the top coat skin and hair issue?
Can we just clarify ... is this a release candidate for DS5 or just the latest DS4 version?
Doesn't sound like DS5
...and except for breaking old ghost lights, what does the new versions add to the functionality of DS?
"the latest public build of Daz Studio (4.16.1.40)"
since the changes were fixing incorrect behaviour, as with the ghost light issue, it seems unlikely that nVidia will roll them back.
XTransfer is a script, not a plug-in, and I am not aware of any changes that may affect it
So how likely is this version to work on my system? I am using 4.11 or 4.12 since my laptop is older and from what I've read, the later versions need a lot more than mine has.* (Or is the current release likely to function well and I didn't realize?)
Specs: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor; Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6500U CPU @ 2.50GHz 2.59 GHz; 12GB RAM; NVIDIA GEFORCE 940M. So says the sticker and Settings/System/About
*And nope upgrading is not an option for me right now, For Reasons. Not unless the chip supply issues magically disappear &/or the price of new high-end computer drops to $200
yes, they do need a new web developer![cheeky cheeky](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/tongue_smile.png)
hope they find someone for their job listing
Guided Sampling is quite neat, which speeds up renders in interiors, while also improving caustics (without the normal overhead of the full sampler).
And Visible to Iray Primary Rays is extremely cool, as it lets you hide objects from the paths that initially leave the camera until they've hit something that *is* visible. This means you can now frame shots where you've put the camera behind walls, but without messing with the lighting or reflections. I'm not sure I can link the test I did, as it contains reference to menstrual products, but it was the case that I was able to have a mirror in the back of the room clearly reflecting the wall that the camera was looking through.
There's more, but that's the main stuff I've been playing with.
Assuming that is the General Release you could always try out the Public Build - just make sure you download only the files with the Public Build tag.
So if I'm successfully using this beta version now, I should not really have too many problems? (Fingers crossed.)
What does this new version have? I don't really keep up with the beta threads
If you are going to quote, then at least quote the context: "Daz Studio (4.16.1.40) is a release candidate for the next version of Daz Studio". To me that says that this is not the actual next version but a candidate. Maybe you read it differently or we understand the term "release candidate" differently but if it is the actual next version, then why call it a release candidate?

So, I'm confused. Is this just a normal, next version of DS 4.x or the last version of DS4 before DS5? If not, why making the announcement? I don't recall you guys ever doing that before for just a normal update.
How do we add a ghost light to our scene now? DAZ_Rawb said ghost lights are supported now, so I hoped to see them in "Create New Ghost Light" or something.
A release candidate is one that Daz thinks is ready to be released, but it's put up as a Public Build so that a broad range of users can try it out. If that shows up issues that Daz deems require fixing then there will be an update, if not then it will be moved over (with minor tweaks so it no longer says Public Build or uses the public build settings) to the General Release slot.
It does have some significant changes.
That still doesn't answer my question tho ;). It can be answered with yes or no...it's just a normal update or it's the last version before DS5. I'm still just as confused as I was. LOL
I suspect that perhaps the Company is tired of receiving a kazillion requests for installers of the previous version. Time to download backups is now, before this release happens ;-)
Right now, those ghost lights are mesh with emissions on and set to visibility of about 0.0001.
