...same here.
A good portion of my content is from other stores (some now gone) or freebie content which has no metadata. Of course that also hamstrings the search as uses the database. with a categorised content library.
With older content, the only two folders that should not be renamed are Geometries and Textures. you can rename library folders and organise them anywhere as you wish. In the old days when Daz reline on the Poser runtime structure, I was always bothered by the fact the Library/MAT folders always ended up in the Poses Folder which made no sense. That was part of why I considered creating my own runtime organisation. th other were all the vendor named folders which I just renamed as to whatever the content was. I ended up placing the MAT folders as a subset off the Library folder it goes with, similar to how content is presented in the main Daz Library folder
This of course requires either moving items around after install or manually installing them (the usual case for freebies) which granted in the Poser structure is a lot easier to deal with. .However the benefit, everything is categorised and you really don' need a database, which is prone to being corrupted, to handle it. Even items in the Daz Library that go into Vendor folder names an be categorised again save for Data (which is the Daz 4.x version of "Geometries") and Textures Some I find reasonable to keep as subsets of a particular vendor folder (like "Stonemason", "AntFarm" Predatron, and Jack Tomlinson, who's sets and props I have a large collection of).. For my workflow it makes finding what I need a lot easier without depending on Smart Content. or the database.
I like Content Package Assist to install product from other stores. It is easy to use and allows you to create a package that can be installed with DIM which helps alleviate problems with finding manually installed items. For example the product will appear in the Product alphabetical listing in DS.
Novica has written a short description for using it: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/4582281/#Comment_4582281
...ah had one line accidentally truncated when I copied from Word to the forum edit window Below is the line in it's entirety:
Same here.
I also accidently discovered another empty file: IM00002914-03_LXVFurniturePack2LegacyStudioCF.zip
Like the other one it only contains the .dsx files, nothing else. Probably not one I'm going to use anyway as it's for legacy versions of DS but anyway.
Bandwagon hopping time: Me four. Tried it, didn't like it! Burned the T-shirt.
I've used manual installation from the beginning of DAZ time. It's like all the decorative & kitschy stuff in my house. No roommates, no pets, no earthquakes, every item is exactly where I put it and it stays there.
And if I can't find it, it's my own d**n fault.![indecision indecision](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/whatchutalkingabout_smile.png)
I'm sticking with G3 and G8 becuase of all the content I have. My buying has been limited to sets, vehicles, props and maybe some clothing which for me is disappearing. There are so many figures and clothing I have no use for or would want to use. Maybe it's my aging eyes but I really can't tell the difference between G8 and G8.1 most of the figures all look just like the G8 figures. Themes seem to be recycled over and over. Pirates then vikings, then cyberpunk, then ... then it all starts again. I haven't bought a character bundle in years.
I was a diehard poser user since Poser 2 when DS with Iray came out I was very excited. But for me content here has not been very interesting for me. Will I leave? No just dialing back spending and will be on the look out for something that wows me. Sometimes I find myself opening up Poser an playing with it at times it's a nice change.
Whilst this is a valid point:
1) if what I have works and I'm happy with, who cares/ (!)
2) I'm probably never going to load it, never mind render it!
I'm disappointed by the endless repeats in themes as well, but every once in a while, something quite original does come along, and that always snags me again. Like the Bonnie figure, or the whole trans theme. Also the two gnome characters, and Edie and Ollie.
...have the gnomes (and their "gelfling" morphs), Edie, Ollie, Mabel, and Floyd, along with Oskarsson's Awkward Age and Hypnagog characters.
Wish we had characters like these for G3.
Disappointed that the HFS shapes were never made for G3. I have the old ones for "Genesis Classic" but not sure how well they'll translate to G3 through GenX as the weight mapping was changed.
I hear you kyoto kid...
This is essentially how I organized all of my huge collection of Poser formatted content. All related items with the exception of textures and geometries (Pose, Props, Cameras, Hands, Hair, Lights) get moved back into the main product folder in sub-folders. It took several days to complete this project but I have never regretted it. It has saved me vast amounts of time and frustration as I put together scenes. Everything needed for a product is right there next to it. In the process, I also discovered many orphans in my pose folder. These were mostly freebie textures I scooped up and installed without actually owning the required product.
These are the only things that reside in my pose folder these days. I now have a Poser folder structure that closely resembles the Daz Studio folder structure.
