thanks ! https://www.daz3d.com/deck-the-halls-bundle-2
With PhilW's new G8 hair reaching the banner page, his store is on sale, including Carrara items. Also, if you do buy a new release, you get a choice of a free Victoria item, plenty of Carrara compatibles to choose from.
PHIL! I'm upset! Wy desnt G3M gets any super-duper Ultimate Eyebrowseses??
If anyone doesn't have Carrara but has been thinking of getting it, today's the day. Carrara 8.5 Pro is on sale, $57.00 for non-PC+ members, $9.10 for PC+ members (if you're not a PC+ member, a quarterly membership costs $24, so you could get Carrara 8.5 Pro for $33 and change -- actually, you could probably use your first $6 coupon to buy it, bringing the price down to $27).
And if you have Carrara already, tell your friends ...
Celebrate your team making it to the Quarter Finals!
We're contacting all customers with teams that have made it so far into this year's World Cup. Please enjoy coupon code QUARTER-FINALS from now until the end of Sunday, and take 70% OFF* of any one purchase of featured Daz Original content!
This coupon can only be used once per customer, and is only good for the intended recipient. It cannot be used to re-purchase an item already owned at a lower price, and it cannot be used to buy new releases, PC+ items, gift cards, or memberships. But other than that, go nuts, and celebrate your team along with Daz 3D!
A bit of consolation if we don't get through tomorrow.... but, fingers crossed! Silene
Includes Tim Payne's "Carrara Skies Lightdomes Bundle", which I think of as a 'must-have' for Carrara users.
(Disclaimer: I have no connection to Tim Payne, I just find this particular package really, really useful)
Also includes TP's Carrara Skies bundle, which I use a lot.

I especially like the lens flare for a sun pointed at the camera. I used one for the thumbnail image for "Highway Closure" here:

Larger version attached, done for a movie poster contest as part of the Houston 48 Hour Film contest.
Woohoo! I think I'm done collecting Fenric's pluigins, except the mdd one I don't need.
Thanks, that turned out to be an interesting sorting of the Daz store. I didn't know some of those Carrara compatible items existed.
Suggestions for where to start content wise? Total newb. Bought it during March Madness. I actually became aware of the sale because I love Howie Fawkes work.
(Having played/shopped for DS for the last couple of months. I know I have tips for someone starting fresh there. There are definitely some do's, don'ts, and save yourself! That would have benefitted me.)
I think suggestions would depend on your interests, at least mine would. Carrara can be used for a lot of different things. Most products are helpful for some, but not all, uses, Tell us a little more about what you like to do.
- realistic landscapes with buildings and vehicles?
- comic-lined and similar stylized adventure serials?
- character animations?
- youtube music videos?
- realistic character portraits and pinups?
- painterly or illustrated book covers?
When and if they go on sale, I'd recommend PhilW's tutorials. In the current sale, Fenric's shader tools plugin is something I get a lot of use for. But again, it depends on what you would be using Carrara to do.

EDIT: If you like Howie's sets, then you might also like the sets by Mmoir and TangoAlpha, among others.
My main goal in Carrara is short animations. I go almost exclusively with Carrara and Poser format content, the latter being handled seamlessly in Carrara with few exceptions (ERC for example, for which I use Poser itself). I avoid DS content (*.DUF) since I've had a lot of trouble with it in Carrara. I also avoid all the Genesis characters, using Gen 4 characters (M4, V4, K4, F4) for which I have a LOT of content (clothes, hair, morphs, characters, etc.). I like to use mocaps, especially Poser content (e.g. from Posermocap) and Animate Aniblocks using the importer for Carrara. I save these as Carrara NLA clips for use in the Carrara sequencer, which can join clips seamlessly. Just to emphasize one point, there is a lot of affordable, high quality Poser format available, at many sites.
Thank you for your time and reply Diomede. Realistic landscapes/buildings/vehicles - yes! :) I didn't know about animation until this afternoon - but that would be great also. Mind you, I love learning and pick up skills quickly, but have short stints of free time. However, what I have already learned in DS and Hexagon has helped me make some really cool things that will seriously grab my elementary students attention this fall. Howie's landscapes are what motivated me to pick up Carrara in March.
Gitika1, regarding Phil's core training, the Learning Carrara course is on Amazon. You get get either the DVD, or a download version.
The Carrara product prices in this sale are about as low as they ever get, so now is a good time to buy. But predicting exactly what products you will need for future projects (within your budget) is always difficult. Nothing in the product sale is essential - until you really need it. :)
So I was just checking my sales reports, as you do ;) and . . . "wtf???" lol
Go on, you know you want just one more . . . #CheekyGit
(btw, my sets all come with a DS version as well as native Carrara. No Poser, cos it don't support instances/replicators)
Still in time for this month's Carrara challenge - super, legendary, epic.
I hear someone super is more powerful than a train locomotive, for example. Could use this.

big Carrara and Bryce flash sale

Thanks for pointing that out I went with two, instead of one.
BTW, I burst out in laughter when viewing the promo image with the guy that attempted to drive through the water in the Country Ford. That's nearly a norm here in Texas. One would think they would learn with the torrential rains and yet they still drive through the water in vehicles that are low to the ground.

I looked at the challenge, probably out of my league - but I did pick that one up.
