rrward I am sure you won't have any problem selling it,

True, but I'd rather sell it to a fellow Studio user.

I had one of those RTX 2060 I gave to a board member here. https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/508591/i-need-a-new-home#latest. Plan to do the same with this 3060 12g card when I upgrade to a 24 g card. So keep an eye out for it. I'll do it the same way. Hope to get more onboard this time for the giveaway.

    I gave a 6GB 1060 away last year.

If anyone in the USA wants to buy my 2080ti (at a very fair price) send me a PM and we'll talk.

Oh, and I have a 1070ti looking for a new home. I'll even pay for shipping (in the USA). PM me.

@outrider42 - Microcenter on its web page is now advertising a new policy vis-a-vis graphics cards: "Limit 1 GPU Purchase per household per 30-day period."  If only someone had thought of this two years ago! The fact that miners can no longer show up first thing in the morning and grab up an armful of graphics cards for themselves bodes well for average customers who are simply in the market for a decent new card for actual gaming.  Just today, reviewing MC's store page at end of the day, I see several 3050s, 3070 Ti's, 3080s and 3080 Ti's still in stock at my local outlet.  A few days ago the same store had 3090s in stock throughout the day.  Now if only prices can continue to drop. Moreover, MC's store page indicates that one of their cards is currently on sale.  They're offering the ASUS NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti at $699.99, a full $250 off what apparently is the regular going price of $949.99.

I believe Microcenter has been limiting purchases for a while. They limit a lot of high demand items this way.

I spend too much time looking at hardware news. I don't know why.

More good news is coming. The 6500XT can be found for LESS than its MSRP in some parts of the world, which is something we have not seen from any new GPU in almost 2 years. The 6600 can be found in stock at Microcenters for $400 which just a $20 markup over MSRP. While these are both AMD cards, these are just more signs the market is falling.

The best sign of all though is that they are starting to offer rebates on GPUs at some retailers like Newegg. Companies only do rebates and coupons to move product. The gates are opening!

For Nvidia, 3050s can be found under $400 now, and MC has 25+ in stock. That is still a bad deal, IMO. If they can get closer to $300 then I would find tha much more reasonable. However, if you are hurting for a ray tracing GPU, it is not too horrible. The 3050 is the weakest Ampere, but thanks to Ampere's ray tracing it should still be still faster at rendering Iray than the 1080ti, and even several Turing cards. But it only has 8gb. The 3060 is still preferable with 12gb, however the 3060 seems to be very hard to find. The 3060ti can be $560 and the 3070 for $800. Don't touch a 3070 at that price. You could buy two 3050s for that price and probably render faster (I cannot confirm that yet since the 3050 has not been benched in our Iray bench thread.).

I bet Intel is kicking themselves for not getting their new GPUs launched before the market collapsed! Now they are going to have to do real battle to sell their cards. While these cards will not do Iray, either, they could push the market even further downward. Some analysts are even suggesting that Intel might sell their new GPUs at cost or even below cost because Intel knows just how important this launch is. While Intel is huge, they are the new kid for dedicated GPUs. They have to prove themselves, and they have to earn gamer and creator trust. They cannot afford to be cocky and charge a high price.

So things could get really excitng this year as long as crypto doesn't rare its ugly head again. I am concerned about that, even as Ether supposedly goes proof of stake. This is a driving force for right now. If you bought a GPU to mine Ether might go POS in a few months, so you would not make your investment back. Thus miners are not buying right now. And oh hey, neither are gamers for that matter! Boy it sure is strange how that massive demand dried up so quickly when miners stopped buying. Strange indeed. I thought everybody needed a GPU, and they needed it Van Halen Crystal Pepsi Right Now.

But I still wouldn't rule mining out. These massive firms made millions and even billions of dollars. Some even bought power plants! Power plants! You think they are going to just pack up and find a new hobby now?

...,may need a power plant for the RTX 4090.

I'm glad that cards are more readily available and prices have come down a bit. I don't think I got a super bargain because cards are still fairly expensive, but I bought a very flashy 3060 as part of my new PC build. A 3080ti or 3090 are beyond what I'm willing to spend, and it seems unwise to go with less than 12GB VRAM. Like everything in this build, it's a significant upgrade on what I've got now. Once the build is complete, I can finally run all the software that doesn't run very well on my old machine. As for the future, I think there are many sources of uncertainty. It's hard to say what will happen.

What matters more than anything is an Ethereum end* date.

I'm hoping that the switch to the smaller node will keep the power needed reasonable, despite some of those excited YouTube vids spreading rumors of vastly higher requirements.

Granted, the top of line 4090 (or whatever) will still draw a lot of power since Nvidia will want to push its performance for bragging rights. But I hope the mid-tier cards like a 4070 will be more reasonable while still providing a big jump in performance compared to my creaky old 1080ti. Just crossing my fingers that they come with enough VRAM.

I heard a rumor that the new high power graphics cards are going to be made with a non-stick backplate so that you can use it as a griddle to fry eggs & bacon on.surprise

The cards could be be the size of a griddle, too. Good luck cleaning the surface after cooking on it. The simple answer to faster rendering is more hardware, more power.

I'm looking at 4090 rumors. Folks are saying 450-600w draw for the base card. A single 16-pin cable can deliver 675w. That'll spin the meter! But the card is still limited to 24GB VRAM.
