In my opinion,I wouldn't buy 2 of them when the 3060 12GB can be had for $369.
...a short bit ago while on the Newegg site I deicovered that the 3060 XC I had put on my wishlist months ago was down to 369$ and available for purchase. I already have one, but that's good to see.
Just had a look at newegg (I know, I know...I'm just looking).
They are showing some RTX cards in stock,but at a much higher prices now.
That $229 for the entry level RTX 3050 is a good price right now from EVGA if one is in the market today for such a card.

Well not really.I've got all the RGB set to white with the brightness turned down the lowest settings and have them set to "static".So no flashing or "waterfalls" or anything.
Just simple dim off white led light in an all back case with everything else in basic black.
I was going for a cyberpunk look.

...wow that's an impressive system both in resources and price.
Currently working on an upgrade to my current Daz system for W1,1 so not building a totally new one. Only going with 64 GB of memory which is more than enough for 3060 I have (though leaving two slots open for a future upgrade) and building it around a 12 core Ryzen 9 5900X which actually costs a little less than the 3800XT. Staying with air cooling (Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro) as I don't wish to sacrifice the two top exhaust fans for a closed loop radiator as I only have provisions for 7 fans (but one is a 200mm filtered intake on the left panel right by the GPU area, so now widow and no RGB).
Seems like they either don't have 3090s in stock, or they're reserving them for people on the waitlist, and either way it does me no good.
Best Buy, EVGA, lots of places have cards and now trending fast back towards MSRP...
You'll love that setup. I built a new Ryzen 9 5900X workstation last November and am running dual 1080 Ti's. With GPU and 11 out of 12 cores enabled I can work on other tasks while enjoying the fastest background render speeds I've ever seen from Iray.

My EVGA order came in yesterday and I am viewing this on my brand new EVGA RTX 3060 12 GB. So yes they have them in stock FINALLY!
Did you test if using CPU actually slows down renders? I only got a 3900x, so maybe the difference, but it renders slower when I enable CPU in stead of just using GPU's
I did not expect to find below MSRP like I did. Very exciting. Let's hope this trend continues!

Yep, its happening, and this trend should continue as long as mining stays where it is from a profit standpoint.
In my opinion the 3050 needs to be much cheaper to be a true deal compared to 3060s that are also dropping in price. If you look around you might find a 3060 for $360, which is not much more than the cheapest 3050. If the 3050 was its MSRP of $250, it might be alright.
And don't forget if your PC can handle it you always add a second card. What's faster than a 3060? How about two of them, LOL. You basically double your render speed. At $360 the 3060 shows real value compared to more expensive cards. At that price, two cost less than a 3080, but are as fast and even have more VRAM on top of that. And since the 3060 is not power hungry, most people have the headroom to add a second one. It is easily the best value card of the Ampere line.
...I also mess around with Carrara and Wowie's AweShader (seen some very close to realistic results with it) which opened up more features of 3DL so I need as many cores/threads as I can get.
Also just in case an Iray scene dumps to memory (I have some rather ambitious ideas, particularly after Protozoon finishes up his collection of orchestral instruments) It will render faster than on what I currently have.
My thoughts/considerations on the matter are similar. I was considering two 3050 vs a 3060.
The challenge is finding real numbers to help decide.
Of course, for many, the scene size they are working with might be what dictates the card they need.
Did you find some real numbers you could go by?

Thus two 3050 cards would be Passmark 12,686 + 12,686 = 25,372 VS RTX 3060 Passmark 16,600.
25,372 is getting close to Geforce RTX 3090: 25,766.
At $300 each for the 3050 that seems like a deal.
So $600 gets you pretty far plus you can use the cards in one or two machines depending on your process.
That was about $150-200 more than a single 3060 when I was looking. However, I was not find ANY $250 3050s.
How those number really equate in Daz Studio is the question in terms of rendering and viewport speeds.
Some say with two cards you double your memory and some say you don't as the scene is loaded compete into each card.
I am not sure which is true.
...as I understand the Titan RTX, the RTX 3090 and the professional grade RTX Quadro/"A" series cafrds (save for te single slot A4000) can make use of NVLink for pooling memory.
I did not see anything about memory in this article yet it does list some examples that use the NVlink.

I got the EVGA GeForce RTX 3060 XC GAMING, 12G-P5-3657-KR, with the metal backplate. It was the only 3060 12GB they had in stock when I ordfered it last Tuesday.
I have headroom to spare. When I built this thing it was for a hiogh end RTX 30 series card. Unfortunately I coukld not afford a 3090 and copuld not find one if I could ahve afforded it. NOw I at least have a RTX 3060 and hopefully can get a seocnd one within the nexzt 6 months for some real render goodness.
That just doesn't sound right to me. You also need to take into consideration the number of CUDA cores. The RTX 3050 has 2560, and with two of them, you have a total of 5120 CUDA cores. A single RTX 3090 has 10,496, so I wouldn't expect the performance of 2 RTX 3050's to come anywhere near that of a single 3090 in regards to iray rendering. You would need something like two RTX 3060 ti cards to start getting close to a 3090's CUDA core count.
No counts were really taken into consideration. The Passmark benchmark is for real world testing on user systems around the world. Anyone can submit their results. Thise results are then averaged. Yet, it gives an indication of 3D performance at least.
Thus, like I said, how that translates to a particular program like DazStudio remains to be seen. I do agree though that the two card will not likely match the 3090 for a number of reasons. Yet in my case, I get more done using two computers than one as I can work on one and render on the other. Two 3090s is out of my budget, plus and my scene size I doubt comes even close to needing that much memory. Not to mention my skill level. With that said, four 3090 ti cards would sure be nice though.
For a time there was a $20 cheaper card. I got the same card you did and two 3050s
