Arcadia 8.1

Love the name, and I really like the bundle (and, yes, it does very much resemble pro bundles of old). 2 reeeeaaally cool hairs, 2 characters, 3 outfits (not as wild on these, but that's just personal taste probably), and the headdress is a nice addon too. An environment, some effects, and 3 sets of poses, and then the HD and metamixer if people are into those. I love that the hd and metamixer don't feel like they're replacing anything either, they feel like genuine *additions*. All in all, I think this is one of my fav bundles yet in terms of content... it's perhaps just a bit of a shame that there aren't really any good purchase incentives or good deals (like, v4 items, cool...)

Nevertheless, I hope it sells well enough or gets a good enough response, because I very much like this return to pro bundle format. And I might actually just end up buying the hairs now with my $6 off and leave the bundle for later, which I've never done before. As long as we get more 'buy for what you don't already own' deals.

    As for the character herself:

    image

She seems to have pretty caked on foundation (coming from someone that knows 0% about makeup, so I might be wrong. Her face does just look quite... moistly dusty? idk)

    image

Sort of odd that they give us an image with various dials spun in, but didn't, like, add in which characters they're dialed with. But still.

Proportion wise I can appreciate having someone non-curvaceous, though we're still getting the thigh gap. Those are some thin thighs. As for Arcadia's bundled character Delphi, I really wish there were more promos, it's kinda hard to get an opinion on her

Also also, lol, I just realised one of Arcadia's promo shots (the one I put at top) has what I presume to be a bit of the hair clipping through the forehead. Which, like, I absolutely accidentally do all the time, it's just kinda funny to have it on such a high resolution image

Arcadia's all right.  Not crazy about the bundled hairs, which are usually what decide me on bundles.  The styles are fine, but the bangs on the Barbara hair don't work for me, which is too bad, because the huge ponytail looks great.  The Cangfa hair looks glued to the shoulders.  Just moving the bangs a little doesn't go very far on a piece like this.

As already mentioned, the promos for VYK Delphi are few and don't even include a non-made-up face, which is too bad.  The headdress looks amazing, though.  The spell effects look good, too.  The Luna Spell outfit is kind of a dForce update to the Witchykin outfit and might just be one of the highlight of the bundle.  Also you can pick and choose an item here or there if you don't like the whole Luna Spell outfit.

One cool item kind of tucked away in a nested bundle is the KuJ Alchemy Lab.  I'm not sure what made them think trimming the floor around that not-quite-right magic circle was a good idea, but otherwise it's a really nice backdrop for a magicky scene, and the props look good, too.

I think the circle is in a bay, or possibly a tower on the corner of the building - it's a little tricky to figure out from the only shot showing walls but it didn't look unreasonable for a typical magician's cottage.

It's not just one promo image, it's in multiple.

The ponytail seemed to have those old 'kinks' in it, but in its own promo pages that didn't show up.

I'll take your word for that.  Canadian magicians have a bit more room to work with.

Where is the otter coming from in the main render for the ad? I can't find it in the DAZ Store. I have the OSO Humanoid Furries Otter already.

It's Oso's Draco Furo. It was in a grab bag sale recently, and my daughter was secretly wanting it. It's rather cute, but I wasn't sure what we'd do with it... I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up in my runtime at some point regardless. It looks great in the main page ad render! : )

She looks interesting but also too similar to Jacqueline 8.1 to buy her.

That was my first reaction, she looks like she's wearing pancake make-up like it's the 90es...

That aside, I think she's... fine. Not much that makes her stand out, tbh.

But I'm admittedly also not the audience for this kind of character.

I think the dial-spins are Clara, Jinx, Rosa Maria, and Brooke.

Nice to see a new release, but I don't see anything unique about her that I can't dial up myself with existing morphs and other characters

Draco Furo was more shooting for weasel/ferret, but otters/weasels/ferrets/etc are in the same Family, so... heh.

    (Ferrets are Mustela furo)

Looks like a Victoria 8.1 Jacqueline 8.1 Coral 8.1 for me. Not sure if it's because of the similar eye shape or the 8.1 skin. I found Genesis 8 skins more realistic than 8.1.

I found this picture in the fifth promo of the set itself showing bay windows behind the design on the floor.

Didn’t look carefully at the bundle really yet but the character itself has skin that looks like plaster and her body is too flabby for my taste, no muscle tone whatsoever. Her face is pretty enough but the skin looks so bad in the promos that it detracts from any beauty, I have to wonder though if customers’ renders would make her look better than the promos which often happens. I’m not a fan of her eyebrows and she doesn’t appear to add anything to the gene pool. As far as the bundle, I can’t use the VDB effects and the hair looks like old V4 style hair. A big pass for now. I spent WAY too much scooping up a ton of products from my wishlist in the 75% off Asian sale so I’m glad this doesn’t interest me lol.

The skin is horrid. I don't buy characters for their shape...I buy them for their skin, so if the skin is bad, then a big NOPE from me.

The bundle is  nice but nothing I need right now. Also after splurging on the Merlin Pro 8.1 bundle last week and the great flash sale last night I really need to really limit my spending for a bit or I'll run out of credit before the DAZ+ summer sale. So, I'll probably just add it to my ever-growing wishlist.

I think for me, base figures should add something to the gene pool. This figure seems very ordinary to me. I don't see it contributes anything we can't already do, and better.

  • lou_harperlou_harper Posts: 1,163

I have so many female figures and hairs that I only buy new ones if they bring something new to the table. So the bundles is a pass for me. But I'm picking up the Magic Wizard Bundle because I'm sucker for anything magic, the Apprentice Poses, and even the Luna Spell Outfit. The last one looks totally silly, but I see uses for the pieces individually. Kind of a reverse kit-bash. Those bloomers retextured could be interesting. And it's nice to have a corset-top combo that's not total skimpwear.

This girl's skin needs some hydration!

And...why is the tear prop so dark gray? I thought it was makeup at first, but if you look it close, you can see it even covers the lacrimal and directly touches the sclera which makeup can't do. So it is indeed the tear prop itself that is super dark gray, and t is kind of weird.

The hair clipping in some promos looks like classic Daz Instancing Optimization set to Auto. Honestly I have to say after complaining about this for years, it is very gratifying to see this bite Daz in the ass in its own official promos. I have zero sympathy. Maybe you can't fix Iray, but you can change the default settings to not use AUTO. Auto is 100% useless and I have proven it is useless. The Auto selection needs to be removed entirely.

But the bundle actually does not look so bad. The magic effects look cool. The Spell Binder outfit looks better than the average Daz Bundle outfit. The ponytail hair might be basic, but I don't see that as a bad thing if the hair is rigged well (which I have no idea...the promos fail to show any movement). It is nice to have normal freakin hairs sometimes, instead of wild fantastical hairs that have limited use. However, in a wizard themed bundle a normal hair may actually not be the best choice. Both hairs are bit too glam for a wizard, don't you think?

I think it would have made more sense for quirky girl witch character. This girl is ok, I guess, but totally normal outside of the costume. A character with a little bit of overbite or slightly longer nose, with more spindly fingers, glasses and more frizzy hair would have made a really charming character that would both "add to the gene pool" and grab attention.

    Damn.

I've stopped buying from Daz, and now they decide to re-introduce bundles; wouldn't touch the Pro though, with the HD and the meta mixer.

What should it be set to? I just realized I've had it set to Auto...but I don't use dForce hair.

She was a pass for me. I have Clara and Rosa Maria from who I presume is the same artist and, while both nice enough, I have yet to really use them for anything. And also have to use Tarni who occupies a simalar space to Arcadia for me but is more my aesthetic. Look forward to seeing some renders tho.

I think I was most excited about the weasel, ha.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I like her and the bundle but the deals are pretty meh for the price.
  • Does anyone know what the other outfit in the banner and the one promo image is? It's the promo image with the mini white dragon. I think I've seen it before but I can't remember.

Are you talking about Barbara Hair? I tried it last night and didn't see any simulation settings. Group of manual sliders, like the old days, but even though I tried to avoid it, the tail still had a kink in it. I was able to shorten the long bangs and didn't have issues there.
