With the arrival of yet another shorts outfit for G2M in the store, I thought it time to pass on this bit of fashion wisdom. The full article is at http://www.vox.com/2014/9/2/6094137/should-you-wear-shorts-in-public-today-a-flowchart-guide-for-the-men but the key info is here:

Of course, over here, you need to add Postmen in somewhere

and before you ask why:- read this http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/9839175/Postmen-banned-from-wearing-shorts-over-frostbite-fears.html

In this area it's pull your pants up instead of put them on. People wear pants so low that you can see there undergarments and their even wearing belts. Just waiting to see that type clothing

Here in Dallas, men wear shorts in public nearly year round. I like shorts, but definitely draw the line at sandals.

Actually, for that side of the pond, there's a much shorter flowchart courtesy of The Telegraph at http://www.telegraph.co.uk/men/fashion-and-style/10924901/Should-British-men-ever-wear-shorts.html

    A) Are you British?

    B) Are you male?

If you answered yes to all questions, then do not wear shorts.

the article then goes on to say: "If you are currently actively playing sport - not on the bus on your way to squash, not having a beer in the pub after five-a-side, but actually running around at this very moment - then it is just about acceptable. Just.

One occasionally sees in the windows of clothes stores aimed at younger men these lightweight summer suits with shorts where the trousers should be. Unless you work for UPS or are a gigolo in an especially warm tropical country, do not wear these. Please.

Glenn Hoddle recently gave the most clear and appalling evidence yet of what can happen when an Englishman, ill-suited for the task, wears shorts in public.

ITV’s coverage of Glenn talking football on Rio’s beach inadvertently gave the nation a good look at Hodd’s pods and the nation now understands for once and for all that we must have done something terrible in a previous life to deserve this."

It's interesting that in this survey of what the average American actually has in their wardrobe, "shorts" as a separate item didn't even make the male side of the list. Of course, it also shows that only 22% of women own a miniskirt, and how many does Victoria have?

    Greetings,

It's interesting that in this survey of what the average American actually has in their wardrobe, "shorts" as a separate item didn't even make the male side of the list. Of course, it also shows that only 22% of women own a miniskirt, and how many does Victoria have?
Ooooh, I like that list. Yeah, it doesn't list 'flowy thing with a flap of fabric hanging down between my legs' either, but there's about 450,000 of those in the stores. Hyperbole! It's a THING! ;)

Actually neither list includes swords, either. Weird...

More seriously, I really like that list for a couple of reasons. One is that I like some of the things that show up on both; e.g. 'leather jacket', 'blue denim jeans', 'bathrobe'. Another is that it's a great way to come up with outfit combinations. Leather Jacket + Miniskirt (is there a good 3D leather jacket for women?). Leather Jacket + Corduroy pants. You could also make a character outfit generator out of this, pretty easily, where you generate a collection of clothes that your character likely has, and then pick randomly from that. I also find it interesting that the non-full-body stuff on the guys side focuses mostly on tops, and the non-full-body stuff on the women's side has more variety in bottoms.

Anyway, I'm wearing shorts right now, but I almost never wear them out in public. But I'm also not of an age and body-type that showing off my legs is a winning move in 'the dance', nor do I care to partake in said dance anymore... :) G2M and Michael, et. al., are usually rendered at the appropriate age and body-type that it's just fine... :)

Fine as a joke but the reality is that's just fashion dogma. :vampire: It has no more validity than the "no white after Labor Day" mentality.

Knobby knees, warts, and blue veins are all part of being human. If I damn well want to wear shorts to stay cool in summer then don't try to embarrass me into not doing it. It ain't a gonna work! A little sun is good for one unless you're related to Dracula, but that's your problem, don't force it on others.

People who live in Florida and survive outside of the bubbles of air-conditioning find that shorts are quite practical and are acceptable attire at all sorts of occasions. Don't let parochial thinking rule your life.

I just look at it as stupid people being slaves to fashion dogma that they don't even recognize. And I absolutely love it in those reality cop shows when the hoodlum runs from the cop and trips over his falling trousers.

Actually, I was searching through my content today, trying to find some G1/M5 pants that look half-way natural. I was trying to get away from my usual stand-by - Jeanz for Genesis - but I failed to find anything that comes remotely close for realism. So, if he doesn't wear Jeanz, I dress him in shorts. Even then, they tend to be the short version of Jeanz.

If anyone can point me to a decent pair of trousers for Genesis Male (not G2M - I only work with the female version of G2) I will make a note for the next time there is a Genesis One sale. Preferably pants that work - i.e. open.

There are quite a few actually, though whether you call them decent (or indecent) is up to you. Many of the sets are yet more jeans, but a few that are not are:

    http://www.daz3d.com/summer-clothes-for-genesis-male (PC Item just 1.99)
    http://www.daz3d.com/mean-streets-for-genesis-male (PC Item just 1.99)
    http://www.daz3d.com/men-s-night-life
http://www.daz3d.com/morphing-business-suit (Sickleyield, meaning this has open morphs)
    http://www.daz3d.com/night-out-suit
    http://www.daz3d.com/royal-punk

As far as open morphs are concerned these are very rare for either male or female, unless the vendor is Sickleyield, pretty much all her's have open and undress morphs. If you want more pants that are not basically "sealed" then check out her store on rendo that has more such outfits, including for Genesis.

I have friends my age (60+) that wear shorts and sandals. I ask them to put on their "big boy pants" and some shoes that cover their ugly-@$$ toes. The last time I dressed like that I was 5 years old. :-/
My Dad would wear Bermuda shorts on family outings in the summer, until one day he caught sight of himself in a mirror. He said, "I look like an idiot wearing these." And never wore them again.

Interestingly, this article shows a young 'fashion model' type of guy and so the shorts look really good on him.

In reality, the people I see where I live, who opt for wearing shorts in what little hot weather we do get, would certainly 'frighten the horses' and leave people seeking medical counselling after encountering such a sight ! :ohh:

So I can quite understand how, and why, our UK newspaper would print this article. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/men/fashion-and-style/10924901/Should-British-men-ever-wear-shorts.html

While I do think M6 has a lot of shorts in his wardrobe, it is common to see shorts in California. I have one co-worker who wears shorts everyday.

I don't much care what people wear clothing-wise. As long as they are happy and comfortable, I'm good with it. =-)

My only complaint downunder is that the AFL player's shorts are not short enough these days
shorts as streetwear MUST be accompanied by thongs and a singlet though not knee high socks and shoes!!!!!!
Certainly not a shirt unless flannelnette unbuttoned as a jacket to your tshirt or singlet and for gods sake no tie!!!!

I do have some of those and I have to say that, even in the promo pictures, they don't look like natural cloth. I have the same issues with female long dresses that look like factory-shaped sheet metal when the woman is sitting. Only recently, with G2 figures, have some of the vendors started to put some thought into how cloth actually drapes naturally. Cute3D is one such vendor and these pants for G2F are much closer to what I'm looking for. Pity G1 versions are not available:

    http://www.daz3d.com/j-girl-for-genesis-2-female-s

So the knee bend thing is why I often dress the man in shorts but, even then, it is sometimes difficult to get away from the impression that he is wearing tin pants. Getting the shorts to conform to the thighs when sitting or lying down can be a struggle.

If you want natural looking drapes of both pants and in particular dresses, then I would use dynamic clothing. I know there is only a limited selection, but there is still a fair bit around including jeans and other pants, plus numerous different skirts/dresses.
