Anyone else saw this?
To be honest, I'm a little unimpressed. From what I've read the card is gonna be very power hungry and hot and I was hoping for a larger leap, at least twice as fast as my 3090.
My current Maya/DAZ/Iray/VR rig is a 3090 assisted by my previous 2080. I figured if I upgraded to a 4090 + 3090 I would retire my 2080 but if I'm subtracting my 2080 from the rig then that further undermines the boost the 4090 could offer. I was hoping for at least twice as fast as a 3090.

Isn't 40xx series the same process node as 30xx? It seems to me like 4090 is just double the chip size of 3090, made with the same technology, hence the crazy power consumption. Not worth it IMHO, sell the 2080, add another 3090 and run it in nvlink mode maybe?
For 3090 to 4090 - alledgedly 5nm from 8nm, greater core count, higher boost clock and a slight boost to vram speed for an extra 100w. If that's true then they have the potential to be quick but I suspect they'll bump the price again.
You say "bump the price again", but the 3090 was essentially the new Titan RTX for $1000 less. The 4090 might cost more than the 3090, but it's still a considerable savings over what you'd pay for an equivalent card in earlier generations.
With the prices of electricity going bonkers, I won't be upgrading any time soon.. My 3090 performs more than sufficiently for my needs :)
I agree the 3090 was agressively priced at launch, but they clawed a good chunk back for the TI. I can't see the 4090 being less than the 3090TI launch price so we're heading back towards Titan level pricing.
the die size is 2.7x bigger than ga102(3090) and some say its 208% faster so it is a lot. and we don't know anything about how much the raytracing performance is increasing. wait til tuesday

FINALLY ANNOUNCED OFFICIALLY...
The good news is it's a lot cheaper than I expected.
I hope so, but we'll see when it's announced and not speculated (or guessed) on.
It's not speculation, the link was to the official announcement "The flagship RTX 4090 launches on October 12 starting at $1,599 with the RTX 4080 12GB and 16GB variants landing sometime in November from $899 and $1,199, respectively. "
The information given is unconfirmed by independent testing, so it's speculation at this point. The tests nVidia showed the results of were pretty specific and unquantifiable, so as always with press events it's best to not get too excited about things until they appear in the real world.
As an example, most of the gaming results that they showed were seeing gains not because of raw processing improvements, but because of their new implementation of DLSS that uses a brand-new process that allows for out-of-order shader execution - essentially intercepting frames, and making new ones from them in real time and as a result removing both render and CPU bottlenecks. This is really impressive stuff if it works, but won't have any application in a static render workload like Daz or Blender.
This. I have 2 3090tis on the way as of yesterday as the ASUS card I ordered is down to $1099. That's 2 for $700 more than the original MSRP of the base 3090 at launch.
For professional use of multiple computers with RTX 4090 it's better to disconnect the house from the grid and install offgrid solar system with LiFePO4 batteries and cheap solar panels.
"With the prices of electricity going bonkers, I won't be upgrading any time soon.. My 3090 performs more than sufficiently for my needs "
If you think about it though, even if the total power consumption of a 4090 is higher, its 'iray iterations per kwh' will also be much higher, it'll just be overall more efficient.
So... who is going to test out the 4090 with Iray first?
Gaming is cool and what not but is not what will motivate me to urgently buy this.
3090 at 24 gigs of ram is still be better deal. Not quite as fast, but RAM often matters more than pure speed.
Until I see indepent reviews I stand by what I said.
I'm sure there will be improvements; I hope they (improvemetns) are as impressive as the 3090; I'd like a 4090 to go with it.
Finally some independent reviews and benchmarks.
It's looking very promising. Yes, I know Iray performance and 4k game fps is not going to be 1:1 but this is the closest comparison we've got so far, apparently an RTX 3090 user can look forward to 4k game FPS improvement of 75-90+%. I wonder how much of an improvement iray will be. I'll do my own Iray benchmark right before I upgrade and compare it to my results after I upgrade and I look forward to the results.
Though the RTX 3090 will definitely have more than enough horsepower for me to justify using it in an improvised external gpu configuration.

Should I wait for a bit before getting an RTX 4090? Even if I camped outside of the store so that I could bring a 4090 home tomorrow morning, wouldn't DAZ Studio not even be able to utilize the 4090 until Nvidia updates Iray and then Daz3d updates DS?
First, I would strongly suggest you wait till Daz provides support for the new 4000 series cards before pulling the trigger. Second you are going to need a larger power supply this card uses 450watt just by its self. I have seen the reviews of the founders edition it is very well made and If you have deep pockets you can do what you want it is your money. Another consideration is the weight of the card>>> It is very heavy. I would suggest purchasing a Cooler Master HAF XB EVO. This will place the motherboard in a horizontal position and keep you from destroying the PCIE slot on motherboard. One last thing MSRP who ever get this? The lucky few and scalpers. I would wait till the people are going nuts for the new cards and get a 3090. ~~Just my 2 cents
"One last thing MSRP who ever get this?"
I did, for the 3090, about a year and a half ago I was a little lucky but yeah. Possible I could drive to Micro Center in the early morning and perhaps get one but it's important to remember that it's not lockdown, cryptomining is super dead, and there's a glut of Ampere GPU's taking pressure off the new arrivals, I like to believe 4090s will be a little more attainable.
As for my PSU, according to the review I linked to earlier, my 1000 watt should be more than enough considering their test rig used an 850 watt (and my 1000 watt is currently powering a 3090+2080, so I'll actually be using less power).
My motherboard is an msi x570 unify that has these sort of metal reinforced pci e slots specifically for very heavy cards, is that good enough, regarding weight?
"First, I would strongly suggest you wait till Daz provides support for the new 4000 series cards before pulling the trigger."
I might just have to do that for this reason alone. I can ill afford daz downtime.
At 12:49pm EST, I was able to preorder a Zotac overclocked RTX 4090 from B&H, without markup, in case anyone else is wondering.
I don't know how long I'll have to wait in line but I'm not in an extreme hurry to have it, I just don't want to be refreshing websites every morning like it's early 2021 so this works fine for me.
Well the cards are gone and that is too bad! I was hoping people whould show more intelligence but that is my own bad judgement of human nature. If the cards would have stayed on the shelves a little longer the 3000 series cards would come down in price. I really wanted another cheap 3090, got mine before the mining craze and scalpers. If this was the work of scalpers, I hope they lose their investment. I think it is just mean to rip people off. One good thing came out of the collapse of the mining craze, I got a cheap 12g 3060 for my brother under $300 usd and he can't be happier. He is a school teacher and can't afford expensive video cards but likes 3d.
I still think that there's going to much less upward pressure on prices because cryptomining really was the big villain in 2020 and 2021 when it came to affordable gpus.
First of all congratulation. 2ndly can you please explain the difference between Zotac's 2 types?
ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 4090 AMP Extreme AIRO vs ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 4090 Trinity OC
Lastly when you receive your card kindly do let us know about the difference between 3090 and 4090.
No one forces people to buy from scalpers.
I got my 3090 for £1700 (Or was it 1799? Can't remember.), but I remember haunting Scan's website. I even considered reselling, but decided I'd rather upgrade my 980ti.
Actually scalpers do, scalpers force people to buy the next best option; if someone can't find the GPU in legit stores they are forced to buy from scalpers... like, that is the whole point of buying-off the inventory everywhere...
Buying-off the inventory to re-sell at inflated prices forces normal people to buy from fraudsters; I think England was planning to charge scalpers with criminal offences; not sure if they passed regulations or not but they should do it. And, the rest of the world should follow along.
When the RTX 30 series came out, I bought my RTX 3090 from Alienware... yeah, it came with a complete Alienware Aurora desktop.
I don't support scalpers; I don't buy from thieves and fraudsters.
I know that at NCAA basketball tournaments that cops patrol & arrest people scalping tickets as well as confisticating the tickets that were trying to be scalped. I was going to a NCAA finals tounament in Dallas once when a cop showed me a fist full of seized tickets to the games that I was going to and so I tried to get him to "upgrade" my mediocre and expensive tickets puchased legitimately with some of the choice scalper tickets he had, but of course he said "Nnnnoooo".
Or you can do what I did when cards started getting so heavy. I have a good quality GPU brace support that screws into the case slots under my 3090. It extends the length of the card with an adjustable height brace that pushes against the bottom of the card to keep it level and from sagging. I have no interest in running dual cards not do I have any other pci-e cards so it worked well for me.
The differences are that they're factory overclocked to different amounts and the airo has a much bigger cooling solution and is overclocked the most out of the factory.
I was lucky, got a Gigabyte RTX 4090 Windforce 24G at retail price from NewEgg. It came with an extendable brace that can help support the card, so that with the back plate and the brance, the weight isn't on the PCIe slot.
And for the record, the card works decently in Daz... with the drivers I got over the weekend, dForce doesn't work - but new drivers dropped today, so we'll see if that fixes it. And Daz isn't supporting the newest Iray/Cuda drivers, so the card does not reach its full potential yet - it's only pulling 275W. But, it works - and it's a step up from what I had (2080 Super 8G). So I'm pleased, I'm hoping eventually the drivers get fixed and Daz supports the higher level of CUDA and the card will then be closer to its full speed...
