Motherboards with reinforced slots would probably hold a 4090 fine. My Asus board clamped onto my 3090FE like a facehugger, completely solid even before being screwed in.

If you use a brace make sure it doesn't push the shroud against one of the fans and stop it spinning. I've had this happen.

Or you could lie the case on it's back. I've got one like that slotted under a TV. Doesn't affect function.

Well the cards are gone and that is too bad! I was hoping people whould show more intelligence but that is my own bad judgement of human nature. If the cards would have stayed on the shelves a little longer the 3000 series cards would come down in price. I really wanted  another cheap 3090, got mine before the mining craze and scalpers. If this was the work of scalpers, I hope they lose their investment. I think it is just mean to rip people off. One good thing came out of the collapse of the mining craze, I got a cheap 12g 3060 for my brother under $300 usd and he can't be happier. He is a school teacher and can't afford expensive video cards but likes 3d.

No one forces people to buy from scalpers.

I got my 3090 for £1700 (Or was it 1799? Can't remember.), but I remember haunting Scan's website. I even considered reselling, but decided I'd rather upgrade my 980ti.

Actually scalpers do, scalpers force people to buy the next best option; if someone can't find the GPU in legit stores they are forced to buy from scalpers... like, that is the whole point of buying-off the inventory everywhere...

Buying-off the inventory to re-sell at inflated prices forces normal people to buy from fraudsters; I think England was planning to charge scalpers with criminal offences; not sure if they passed regulations or not but they should do it. And, the rest of the world should follow along.

When the RTX 30 series came out, I bought my RTX 3090 from Alienware... yeah, it came with a complete Alienware Aurora desktop. laugh

I don't support scalpers; I don't buy from thieves and fraudsters.

    No.

They don't force anyone to do anything.

Folks can wait, until they can buy it (whatever it is) at a price they want to pay; or they can chose to pay the inflated value.

... No force involved. No gun to head; no threats of violence. It is choice.
