...so learned that Chrome will cease support for Windows 7 and 8.1 come February (not sure if that also affects Gmail as I really don't want to set up a whole new mail account).  This means no new updates which would include "zero day" fixes to thwart ransom- and other malware attacks.   Unfortunately to move to W11 Pro (said my peace on W10 previously) also requires a major system upgrade that means  replacing over decade old components with more up to date  ones like the Motherboard, CPU, and memory. The full cost (including and OEM of  W11 Pro) is just under 1,000$, something I will not be able to save by the deadline.  While I'm not looking at the latest and greatest (Zen 4 and DDR5 memory), even though I'm on a fixed income, also not into wasting money on a cheap "stopgap" that will likely be obsolete in short order.

The components I settled on are Motherboard: Asus PRIME X570-PRO ATX AM4.  CPUL: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 3.7 GHz 12-Core, Memory (I still also use Carrara and 3DL):  Corsair Vengeance LPX 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16, and a new more capable CPU cooler: ARCTIC Freezer 34 eSports DUO.

I already have an RTX 3060 12 GB and will also be keeping my current drives as (SATA III SSDs and a 2 TB storage HDD).  This leaves some room for expansion, such as memory and adding an M2 SSD to transfer the boot drive to.  The Titan-X will likely go to supporting the displays with the 3060 dedicated to rendering and dForce so there will be no more crashes of my display driver when running sims.

Sadly short of hitting 5 of 6 numbers on the Megabucks Lotto (which would be enough to cover the cost) don't think I'll make the deadline.  I can keep running Chrome but again but it means dealing with higher security risks.

...I'd loose all my saved links. and preferences (such as form fills), which I would need to rebuild as well as all my plugins and extensions some of which likely have no counterpart in FF.   I also had issues in the past with FF bogging down during a session and causing boot-ups to take longer.   Never had that issue when I switched to Chrome.

Opera imported them all for me including autofills

...thanks, took a look at Opera and and considering it. The fact it uses al Chrome plugins and extensions is a definite bonus as it as built-in VPN (not sure though if that may cause a conflict with my AV which also has VPN, I'll need to check on that) ..

Firefox can also do this. If you wanted.

...*yawn* the End of Year Massive Ketchup Sale is anything but, particularly after looking at the sale categories and product selections.  Hopefully since it is just 2 hours after "Daz Zero Hour" they are still working on getting everything together.

One categoryreally got me though was one that requires spending 100$+ to get one free bundle with a coupon code.  Thursday's deal was much better as you only needed to buy a new release (which could be a Daz+ item) to double your punch discount on up to three bundles (only had to spend and extra 3.49$ for a Daz+ item to get the HFS Shapes Bundle for G8F/M for 10$)

Wonder if they understand that most people may likely tapped out by now as it's the end of the month and we just got through a major holiday to boot..

I agree with everthing you said. Spending 100+ for a free bundle is a far cry from the other bundle sales requiring us to spend less. Besides, it does not even include the Crow 8.1 Mega Bundle, which I want, in the deal. I had missed the sale when Daz recently set a precedent with the six bundles for $10 with code or twelve bundles for $10 if you buy a new release or something like that. C'mon Daz, one last good hoorah sale for the year or else I'm closing my wallet for a while.

Hmmm... how would the volume of atmospheric gases flowing past you affect your carbon footprint?  And how would you measure it?  And what if you wore bigger shoes than necessary?  How would that affect the footprint calculations?  So many questions left up in the air.frown  Please be more descriptive.devil   And I'm still confused about how you would know when you had passed by the wind, when it seems to be all around you?  I'm sooo... confused.sad

And I felt like a pizza once too.  Strange experience.  It took me a week to get the sauce out of my ears.surprise

Query: "zero carbon"  Is that like "Coke Zero"?

I thought it was when a cat puts her fresh prey on her scratching post?

I saw there is a "free" bundle only if you buy a hundred dollars worth of stuff!  I still need to use most of the stuff I already bought!

Today (Dec 30th) is/was National Bacon Day and, rather fittingly, National Bicarbonate of Soda Day.

So year just changed like 20 minutes ago and looking back... good riddance I say! Not missing it or the few years before it at all.

Here's hoping for a better and more peaceful next year with lower electricity prices and more reasonable living expenses.

As a new year's resolution I promise I'll spend less money here. I'd say none but let's be realistic...

    Happy New Year everyone!

Welp, if what happened to my Mum tonight was a sign of things to come for my family in the next year, then 2023 can already get knotted. no

I don't want to be awake anymore.

    I'm absolutely drained.

I wish I had pickled herring. Or any canned fish. Except tuna. I cant take tuna right now.
