Yeah, luckily the snow had melted to about half during the day by the time I got back home and the old trusty Opel Astra managed just fine through the slush.

Ooh, something different.  I live about the length of an American football field(100 yards/meters) away from the train tracks in town.  I've pretty much learned to ignore trains when they go by.  But they're always travelling slowly (about 15-20 mph) through town because of the wicked curve on the west end of town.  Most of the trains are short (i.e. less than 10 freight cars), but sometimes it's a long, long, long train of tanker cars (either empty, off to the oil fields & refineries of central NY & Pennsylvania.  Or full, on their way to the midwest cities).

But yesterday, I noticed a very slow moving train with squealing brakes, and clattering clunking wheel & hitch noises.  I didn't think anything of it and ignored it for a while, but it went on for more than 10 minutes as the train slowly, slowly stopped.  I finally braved the cold and stepped out on to my porch to checkout the train.  It was, a string of tankers, it was stopped.  It was there for hours, blocking the only road heading south out of town.  The nearest other crossing is 2 miles west or 3 miles east, making a complete detour, heading south, about 8 miles either way, and wandering on possibly flooded and/or icy, 3rd class roads through the hills & swamp, in winter, after a major thaw, followed by a massive snowstorm. I finally forgot about it and noticed that it was gone this morning.  I don't know what the problem was, but I bet there were a lot of pissed farmers and people from south of town who wanted to get into town or at least to the connecting main road to the city.  Wheee... excitement in the deadlands.indecision

...Marquette doesn't play until Friday at 11:45 local time where I am.

Oregon and Wisconsin will miss the Big Dance this year for the first time in quite a while, however both did end up in the "Not In Tournament" (NIT Invitational)  as #1 and #2 seeds respectively.

I remember when BYU was in it years ago and Daz gave coupons each time they advanced.

Today's complaints will feature the following topics:

1- People who don't understand what a turn lane is.

2- Manufacturers who's upper management is so rich they don't own cupboards.

    3- My new printer.

4- People who think styrofoam is cardboard.

5- iOS latest update made spellcheck hot NYC garbage rotting in the summer sun.

If you don't find a topic interesting, please feel free to skip it or treat yourself to some delicious snack foods until something more interesting comes along.
Until then these will be today's complaints from me.

    Thank you.

    Today's Complaints:

1- People who drive half in the turn lane and have no intention of turning, so that when the light for the turn lane changes nobody can pass their ignorant a_s, because they are sitting there oblivious of all life on earth, listening to the looping circus music playing in their head.
Double curses from hell to the idiots who drive in the RIGHT TURN ONLY lane (lane marked on the ground and at least six signs in various places that say "RIGHT TURN ONLY" plus the bent arrows painted on the ground) that also has a sign that says NO RIGHT ON RED and then sit there waiting for some other color arrow besides a green one to appear, so they can go straight instead of turning, but they can't go because the cross traffic has a green light and they just saw the NO RIGHT ON RED sign and now their tiny brain is short circuiting because they can't understand they effed up, so instead they just sit there waiting for the universe to grant a deus ex machina to their stupid a_s.

2- Manufacturers... Is it too friggin' much to ask the buttnuggets who design packaging to write what the eff the product is on the side of the box? I don't have a single item in my cupboards that says what the hell the item is on the sides... nutrition info, yes... dumb banter, yes... recipes, yes... a stupid mascot, yes... but what is in there?... Pasta? Brownie Mix? Dog Food?
Nobody stores the items in the cupboard like they are displayed on the supermarket shelves... if I did that I'd have one box of cereal, one box of pasta and one box of dog food on my shelf, and I don't even have a dog anymore. It's so effing annoying trying to figure out which of the sixteen blue or red boxes is bow tie pasta or penne or friggin' mashed potatoes or fudge brownies...

3- F_ _k my new printer... It's an "Ink Tank" printer in that it doesn't use cartridges, it uses in tanks that you refill with bottles of ink, which is much cheaper... Something that should have been done years ago, but only recently became a thing... but of course if you make things and do one good or useful or helpful thing, you have to compensate by doing ten horrible things to make sure Beelzebub is satisfied.
    A) The instruction screen on the printer is 1 inch x 1 inch square... the black bezel surrounding it is 3 inches x 2 inches... presumably because it was designed with a screen that big and some bean counter said... "too big, postage stamp size screens from mp3 players from the early 2000s are practically free" or something like that.
    2) "OK" on most earthly devices mean "Confirm" or "Okay, do it"... here it means "ask me again, but using different words", or "Go back to the previous screen for some reason" or "Do nothing, the correct answer is the button that looks like a diamond with a line in the center".

4- Cardboard is not styrofoam, styrofoam is styrofoam and it looks and tastes different and throwing out a gigantic box full of styrofoam packing crap on recycling day in the middle of a nor'easter is the laziest effing thing you can do, especially when it's not even paper recycling day, but metal & plastic... Now your crappy styrofoam is everybody's problem.

5- The most recent iOS update effed up all typing functions on my iPad and iPhone... my favorites being spellcheck becoming throughly brain damaged and random prolonged sudden typing lags that require the device to be rebooted. But yay, I probably got twenty stupid new hidden features that I'll never find nor use if I did, so yeah, definitely worth the aggravation.

Thank you for reading and remember to subscribe or like or lick the screen if you want to read more like this.

    Have a great day!

(Unless you are any of the people I just complained about, in which case fall into a pit full of angry cobras with herpes.)

...we have a crossing like that in on the inner southeast side of city.  The detour is not as lengthy but still a bit convoluted. thanks to the fact the line turns southward shortly afterwards. It is by far the busiest line in the city with a freight trains going through at a relatively good frequency.  Some are long and they have to low down for a curve and slight grade right at that point. Sometimes it's not one but two trains one northbound and the other southbound. which requires one of them to stop blocking the crossing at major street for a long time.  This also causes a backup along a street that parallels the tracks in this area. due to traffic trying to turn south being stalled. It's a real mess.

I used to take a bus to work that had to deal with the crossing and feared hearing a train horn while waiting at the bus stop, Finally, after all these years the transit commission had an "aha" moment and is rerouting the bus this May to permanently bypass the crossing.  Of course I no longer live in that neighbourhood but still nice to see they finally got a clue.  However when it came to the new BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) line they opened up last year, they dropped the ball again by having it cross that same rail line a couple blocks west. Right, an "express" bus route  that has to deal with frequent freight trains, seems they have short memories.  For over a year I suggested they should have gone with the original alignment that would have avoided the crossing and put the line on a 4 instead of 2 lane street, throughout its entire route, but then, I'm not paid the big zlotys to make such decisions.

My guess would be that it's a comfy chair. I try to forget how to get out of that type of chair for hours on end(once I have a good book, snacks, and drinks nearby). cheeky

I've been in places that were plagued with ants and other crawlies. (*ugh*).  back when I was in my hippy phase, during the late 60s/early '70s.  I remember a place a friend of mine had that he and his girlfriend moved into.  They didn't have all their things moved in yet, just some boxes and a couple of rugs to sit on around the communal smokin' pipe/ashtray.  There were five of us in total gathered there to celebrate their new apartment, just smokin' a bunch of doobies.  And as the smoke cleared and everybody was getting good and mellow, my friend (I'll call him Mike), stared at the floor for a while, and then started looking with more attention, then got his face right down near the floor, looked around with his nose about 3 inches from the speckled linolium floor, in all directions, jumped up yelling, "ticks, the f'n floor's covered with ticks".surprise

Well, that got our attention real quick!  I don't know if they were ticks or wood lice or what, but they were teeny, tiny multi-legged things with a mind of their own moving in all directions along the floor.   Mike grabbed a hammer, squatted on his feet on the floor and started smooshing them one by one.  A task that would have been everlasting until we convinced him we needed chemical support.  The rest of the event has evaporated from my brain, but I definitely remember Mike squatting there dutifully bonking ticks into the linolium.laugh  Personally though, I think one of his boxes had a ripe spider egg sack and it broke open and dispensed about a bazillion spiderlings. (*that I find worse than ticks*)

Boy do I have some stories about Mike!  He'd be a whole chapter.yes

...that happened to me once at a Sci-Fi convention after somebody spiked the punch in the Hospitality room with 151 Rum..

It was a warm humid afternoon a 160 mile drive from Seattle to Portland and I was parched so I downed several glasses in relatively quick succession without realising what happened before we got there.

Complaint:  OMG..., I just did the math and realized that the "late 60s/early 70s" was half a century ago.  That was when I looked like this in the photo below.  Me(foreground) and "Mike" camping at Sebatian Inlet, Florida.
