Wheee..., old department stores.  Yep, we still have a hanging-on JCPenney store.  Only old-time department store left in this area.  Sears left years ago.

Both Sears and JCPenney used to be located in the center of the city (Jamestown, NY), in proper multi-story buildings like a proper department store.  But that was back in the 50's before the invention of malls.  There was something about going Christmas shopping in the downtown of a city, with the holiday lights, snow and slush, and the repeated entry & exit of buildings back into the snow to walk in the weather to the next store down the street.  Ah, memories.smiley

They're returning to that now.  Malls are going away (or are long gone) and now they're making strip malls.  All in one building, but separate enrances, as if they were in different buildings.  I don't understand it.  Especially up here in New England.  Why would people want to go out into the weather between stores when shopping?  Pouring rain, freezing snow.  It doesn't make sense to me.  And the stores are all so much smaller, too.  You could get clothing in one store, shoes in another, linens in another, calendars and odd gifts in another, and actually browse books and magazines in another.  All in comfort.  No getting wet, and bringing that into the next store.  Modern times are a step backwards.  It's like screens.  For years, I worked on getting larger TVs to watch my shows and movies.  Now, people are watching movies on their phones!  Small details, that often add to the story, are impossible to see on a phone screen, no matter how high res it is.   And people flock to the little speakers, being told they're stereo.  Stereo, coming from a box (or capsule shaped thingy) that's no longer than 12 or 14 inches!  To get stereo effect from that, you have to hold it up to your face!  Forget hi-fi!

Not only was the weather a factor, parking was a bitch too.  Trying to find an unoccupied  parking meter along the street was easy for the first 100 people in the 6 block downtown area, but if you came late, you either circled the block for a half hour, or drove into the residential areas to park, or you pulled out a dollar to park in the one parking garage in town.  A whole dollar, outrageous!  Ah, memories.indecision

No, but really, when the downtown of the city got all Xmas'd up, there would be colored lights wrapped around the streetlights, along the trafficlight wires, large garlands of lights strung between poles along the sidewalks, big lighted wreathes, fake 6 foot tall candles placed on the corners  of the sidewalk.   Xmas commercialism run amok.indecision  Ah, the '50s.

Yep, that's the picture.  The '50s & '60s were big on outdoor lights.  In the summer my mother had rows of white petunias in the front yard and had me run several outdoor Christmas light strings under them to make them glow at night.  Incandescent bulbs, each bulb was 7 or more watts, in strings of 20 or more.

laugh   that cinema was not the high end type.  They played old movies, lots of horror movies.  Sometimes on Saturdays, the matinee played old Batman serials.  It wasn't adult movies, though.

    There are several new states:

    • Crazy
    • I don't know or its 3-syllable murmuring equivalent
    • Its cousin I don't care
    • To Hell if we don't change our evil ways

But none of these have a state flag, state bird, or state insect.

  • Complaint:  Email spam getting a bit too personal.

    Example subject line:  "Belly Flush".

Me:  But I just had a shower this morning, and l swear I flushed off my belly.  Ever since I stopped crawling on my belly at about 2 years of age, it hardly ever gets dirty now, and besides that, how would you people know if I did a poor job anyhow?

Belly Flush.  Some retailers need to stay in their lane.  What's next?  "Hey, Mr. Pixel, I noticed you have a little problem with mustard stains."  Sigh, ya got me.  I like an occasional Italian sausage in a bun with onions, peppers, glow-in-the-dark relish, and .. yes, mustard too.

I love how I hear someone I know has an ailment I've never heard of before,  I look it up and suddenly I get a dozen emails about cures for it.

Get out of my head, internet!

I open an Incognito window when I want to search something like that.  This is in Chrome, I don't know if FF has that feature, but  probably.

  • I just have at it, Dana.  And have some fun with it.  Searches like "Spotted Liver Disease", "Striped big toe mange", "athletes foot behind my ears", or "what does it mean when my elbows grow hair" can make for some fun times, espeically if you're doing it on SOMEBODY ELSE'S computer...

Non-complaint:  Wheee... a mini-adventure.yes  But only half a mini-adventure because the dentist called me up last night and moved my appointment to next Tuesday.  Not a problem in itself, but I had made arrangements to have the local ancient-person's bus pick me up this morning, and no-shows are penalized.frown  So, rather than try cancelling with short notice, I just decided to go on uptown anyway(cheap bus ride).  Got to the drugstore, got to the proper grocery store and picked up items not available in my local grocery.  Had breakfast at Burger King, and had a nice conversation with Uber driver on the way home.  Next Tuesday will have to merge dentist and laundry into the same trip.  I hope my dentist doesn't mind my dirty laundry cart sitting in his cloak room for an hour or so.devil

...here in Oregon its 45$ and an extra 30$ for the "Real ID " stamp   No discount for seniors or disabled residents on SS either. Really ridiculous  particularly as costs for everything else keep going up

Mine expired during the pandemic and offices back then were only handling driver licence applications and renewals for about a year, so I never got a new one.

So a couple of days ago, I used DAZ Studio for the first time in a while. And I noticed it started rendering significantly faster than before. I was using the ray tracer with a Genesis 8 character and an HDRI background. It seemed like it started rendering immediately, while in the past it would spend some time preparing data before the first image appeared. Maybe something actually got better. I shall assume it was IRAY that got better, and not DAZ Studio itself.

Non-complaint:  Yay, I finally signed my new Will.yes  The 40 year old, previous Will had so many dead people, and other complications listed that it was just better to throw all that away and get a completely new Will listing only living people.  Makes a little more sense.enlightened  Another thing checked off my bucket list.  Although, I still want to get to a symphony at Carnegie Hall or the Lincoln Center in NYC, but that's an adventure for another day.  Wheee...smiley

What Doctors Don't Want You To Know About Brain Stuff...

Do you constantly feel like everything you say and write is being monitored by an invisible entity that is trying to sell you stuff you don't know you want, products that were designed by shady sewer rodents trying to take advantage of loneliness, fears or aversion to rational thought?
Do you get headaches after drinking heavily or banging your head against a sturdy tree?
Does the fear of change make you fearful?
Does the idea of modern medical advancements and scientific principles send shivers down your spine?

If you said yes to any of those questions or merely nodded, or even if you disagreed entirely, what you are probably experiencing without even knowing you are experiencing it, is a form of anxiety that has plagued mankind and some types of marsupials since the dawn of civilization.

Modern medical science has turned its back on many cures the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia, the Indus Valley and Atlantis all knew...

The healing power of Magical Magnetic Copper™.

The Egyptians were the first to perfect this miracle alloy that looks amazingly a lot like cheap colorful plastic.
Their discovery was so powerful that their Pharos would not stay dead and they had to mummify them to prevent them from running around after death.

Over time their miraculously advanced metallurgy skills were forgotten and people reverted to scientific methods and medical knowledge instead of miracle cures.

But now recent advancements in miracle research have revealed the methods behind how Magical Magnetic Copper™ was created.

Over twenty years ago a brilliant scientist from a leading university discovered ancient texts hidden under a cushion of a sofa left out by the curb.
These previously unknown texts, written in an unknown language were deciphered by the scientist, which allowed him to create the first ingot of Naugacopper™ the world had seen in over two thousand years.

The ancient healers knew that banging a Naugacopper™ hammer on one's head could cure every ailment from anxiety, boredom, flatulence, a reptile dysfunction to even death.

The healing properties and miracle curing rays emanating from the colorful Naugacopper™ hammer's bopping surface would penetrate deep beneath the skin and bone and give the body's cells new vigor and purpose by flipping each cell's control center from negative to positive, thus convincing them they were young and energetic again.

The ancients knew this and now you too can share in the wonders of this miracle cure.
