Complaint: Father's Day is always rough. My dad was not a great person and he left this world some time ago, but it's always painful to see other people posting tributes to their own pretty-great dads.

Other complaint: Apparently Nielsen decided to break up with me today. The little meter I carry around with me keeps telling me to call a toll-free number, which ominously announces itself as the "equipment recovery" line of something like that. I guess they want their things back, but nary an email to announce it. The "recovery line" is closed today, anyway.

Non-complaint: It's beautiful outside, and not raining.

I had a good father, and have a good mother. But both Mother's Day and Father's Day are difficult for me too. It's because (and I hate telling people this, especially when it would be so easy to lie about it online) ...it's because my children are imaginary. So on those two holidays everybody else has kids saying how great they are and I get nothing. Sometimes it was especially difficult for me when nieces and nephews I had spent lots of time and money on (because their parent's didn't) would go on the social networks talking about how their parents are everything to them and not acknowledging me at all. There were times I felt like telling them the only people they should ask for help are the people they acknowledge on those two days. I have a friend who felt like I do. And she gave birth to a child who only lived a few hours. That didn't make Mother's Day any easier for her, with all the other people's kids gushing over them.

At my workplace, they like us to list an emergency contact so they have somebody to pick up the body if anybody gets killed or whatever. I once listed one of my imaginary kids as an emergency contact. I didn't think it actually mattered unless you get killed. But my manager came over to me and said she didn't realize I had any kids, particularly one old enough to be an emergency contact. I made a mistake I often make, and told her the truth. First she thought I was joking about imaginary kids. Then she realized I was serious, and I believe she determined I was crazy or an idiot or something. She never spoke to me again.

I can't think of any lighhearted conclusion for this. Perhaps it's fitting since I'm imaginary myself... just another gussied up acorn in some lunatic's field. I should delete this whole thing but then it will be saved as a draft forever if I don't post it.

Came here just to relax after a hard day, and then read this ... Such a sad, sad and honest post, it's wrenching my guts right now. Feel like I want to jump into all the bits and bytes and hug you real hard, sorry for the inappropriateness. I'm so, so sorry for how much you suffer from being childless. And there's no need to be 'lighthearted' about it, none at all.

But please don't let it drag you down all the way. There's so many ways to be an important part of other peoples' lives, and I just bet you're in quite a few of them, playing your role, maybe without even much noticing yourself. You sound like a thoughtful, kind and honest person, and these are much needed everywhere, always. There's also all kinds of possibilities to care for children, like fostering etc., but I'm sure you know that already. Maybe there are some of them that might really fit for you? Children do need parents, but they need kind teachers and understanding helpers and just general on-their-side persons just as much, and as many as they can get. You could be one of those, surely?

Gosh, am actually crying a bit now. Sweetie, you're not crazy, you're just longing. And that hurts. But it means you're alive, and as long as you are, there's possibilities, right? Wishing you lots and lots of strength for your poor sad, beautiful heart.

I sometimes don't go to church because I don't feel like getting ready for the bus so early.  Buses are on Sunday schedule when church meets.  Sometimes it seems like a lot of work, trying to catch bus in time for church!

When I said "lunatic", that was meant to be a term of enderament. It's kind of like when I said I was just one more gussied up acorn in a field but that really meant I was in good company. Of course that was before I found out we were really citrus fruit in a non-citrus barrel. Such is life.

Non-complaint:  Wheee... an adventure day.  I'm all cleaned up and suitable for public appearance.  Got my doctor related stuff and other "necessities" in my cloth shopping bag.  Morning bus to my local eye doctor, then UBER to the local mall, for mindless browsing, and lunch.  Then UBER to the surviving Chinese restaurant for some takeout goodies.(remember the shopping bag?)yes  After reopening post Covid, they only do take-out.  No sit-down service anymore.sad  Then UBER home.  Wheee... not sure I can stand the excitement... keep beating, my wonky, wonky heart.indecision.

Well, I always expect the Spanish Inquisition... I also always suspect the butler and I never trust a one eyed man offering free candy from an unmarked white van in the parking lot behind the 7-11... I'll try and get the candy if it's something good like Snickers bar, but I never trust...

But I never personally suspected anything about you aside from perhaps you liking cats... I'm not sure why, I just have this feeling you might have some sort of interest in them, but I can't quite put my finger on why I feel that... maybe it's something you said once... or you mentioned singing a hymn about cats... I dunno.

I once suspected you were a fan of the fast food chain "Wendy's", but then I found out that they are only now going to be opening up restaurants in Australia, so I don't know why I thought that... Sorry to hear that they'll be inflicting this franchise on your fine nation... it used to be slightly better once upon a time, but most are kinda awful now... who knows, maybe they'll be better over there and you'll actually like them and even develop an attachment to that name which in time, along with your fondness for feline beings, will become incorporated into your online presence or even a new username...

    Oh wait a minute...

I know why I suspected all that...

Apparently there's a fast food franchise called "Wendy's Milk Bar" in Australia already... I guess they are more of an "ice cream and hotdogs" kinda place... Or at least that's what the menu implies... I really can't see much beyond some photos of a what appears to be pervasively topping covered hotdog next to what is probably a milkshake or possibly a vegemite smoothie... some French fries, a small bucket of cut up wiener bits, and the most obscene looking "hotdog in a bun" thing I've ever seen... I'm guessing that's a full sized version of "pigs-in-blanket" which in the states is teeny wieners baked in a pastry wrapper... but honestly that just looks like someone aggressively rammed a wiener into a hotdog roll in a display of misplaced Freudian frustrations until it poked out the other side... I dunno what's going on there... honestly, it's making me uncomfortable just looking at it... not so much because of the wiener poking, but because for some reason I'm picturing the scary lunch lady who smelled like cigar smoke and sauerkraut at my high school cafeteria, who must by now be about 107 years old, being the one erotically ramming the wieners into those buns and now I'm probably going to have nightmares about that.

    Yeesh...

I will say though that they seem to be on to something with their breakfast sandwiches which appear to be served on hotdog buns, which are aerodynamically more efficient if you eat them while running off to work or being chased by carnivorous marsupials... the sliced eggs and bacon line up perfectly, so one probably doesn't even need to chew it much as they could likely just swallow the whole thing like a python does a mouse...

That's probably not healthy, but just an observation... I guess the sanctity of hotdog rolls is not as big a deal in Australia as in America, where only hotdogs are legally allowed on hotdog buns... apparently I'm persona non grata in Texas because I once made a peanut butter sandwich out of a hotdog roll back in 1989... but I'm genuinely glad to see people defying baked goods dogma and daring to experiment in ways others fear, but secretly want to experiment with.

Sadly I can't really look at the full menu, just pictures of the food and an annoying pop up that keeps asking me if I'd like to start a franchise... That and there's a really janky looking DoorDash menu that doesn't mention if they'll deliver to Long Island... Which if anything seems like an actual good use for these delivery services... I see people using DoorDash for restaurants across the damn street... are you really that busy that you can't lug yer butt over there to order a slice of pizza?... or did you do something so horrible there that they have a picture of you behind the counter that says "Do Not Sell Pizza To This Person Under Any Circumstances!!"... because, if that's what's holding you back, just use a fake mustache like I do...

But a global food delivery service with trans-orbital drones that delivers food from any nation on earth would be a fantastic thing... and you wouldn't have to worry about heating up the food, because reentry would provide more than enough heat to keep your chicken Tagine nice and toasty or your Thukpa bubbly hot... big deal across town... I want fresh yak stew in twenty minutes or less...

I suspect that'll get stupid real quick, probably it'll start the moment they start including tips for the drones*, but in the beginning before the tech starts being taken for granted, it'll probably be kinda cool.

But that probably won't be for a long time, I suspect... but other than the cat thing which still alludes me, I suspect nothing about you... well aside from the whole thing about you living in Australia... which I'm positive is a real country that probably didn't make up... though I gotta say that whole thing with the hopping murder-marsupials sounds a little fantastical.

Anyway... that's all... have a great day.

*I'm not against tipping people who perform a service, but recently in this country, it probably started during the pandemic, lots of businesses that use touch pads or electronic payment devices, have started asking for tips for things that aren't traditionally a thing you tip for... it's getting kind of stupid and I'm not even sure employees are actually seeing the tips go to them in some cases, as there have been a couple of news articles about that... just a few days back I stopped at a gas station convenience store along a highway in upstate New York, I picked up some snacks from the shelves, and a drink or two and the payment device gave me the choice of a 10%, 20% or 25% tip or I could decline... surprisingly "F_ _ _ Off" wasn't one of the options... literally asking for a tip at a self service shop is really shady... not only does it imply you don't pay your employees an honest wage, it's scammy as hell and puts you on the spot... luckily I'm shameless in situations like that, but still, it's gotten out of hand and I'm sure once robots and drones start delivering stuff, they'll be including gratuities for the robots in the bill.

Non-complaint:  Mini-adventure over.  Eye appointment found no issues.  Didn't get to the mall (saved an UBER trip).  However, I did get to Tim Horton's for coffee, a few donuts & a muffin takeout, and I also did get to the Chinese restaurant for takeout.  Mmmmm... Moo-goo-gai-pan, fried rice, orange beef, <something, something>shrimp, egg roll, many veggies.  Mmmm... warmed-over Chinese lunch tomorrow too.  yes  Also picked up a few grocery items, at BigLots, found a 2 for 1 deal on big bottles of Glucosamine/Condroitin(joint relief) supplements at the CVS drugstore, and a big can of a deluxe nut mix.  Mmmm... nuts.yes  Wheee... so much excitement.smiley

That's what I thought until I stopped using it.frown After a couple weeks, I'm hobbling around like grandpa McCoy.  (50s TV reference)

But it's not really that expensive.  I get the CVS "triple strength" 240-pill bottles and take two/day.  That's 120 days(4 months), and I wait for the sale and get two bottles for the price of one.  $62.50.  Divided by a total of 240 days(8 months) is $0.26/day or about $8/month .  Which is what I pay for my TracFone each month.indecision

Didn't work for me at all.  And I got the good stuff.  Maybe it was too late for my knee, I don't know.

I went to dollar tree. Check out got too confusing for me.  Part of it I forgot how much I had with me.  I was with a support team member.  I was a tad short for what I picked out.  Also the cashier added my support team's toothpaste and  a diffuser customer's laundry detergent.

The manager didn't come to help the cashier and there was a long line for one cashier.

Only one complaint.. 7C today wth rain... 30cm of snow in the mountain parks to the west of us.. and the "check engine" light came on in the car..

....hmm checked Wendy's Milk Bar on the Net.  Those "obscene" hot doggies look sort of  like bagel dogs (which I understand are a common fare in New York City). They also somewhat resemble corn dogs or "Pronto Pups" from here in the states albeit without the stick in the other end.

Those stands remind me of ice cream & custard stands that I remember from my youth here in The States.  I would imagine their shakes are far better than the ones from their American namesake and other fast food chains.

We have a local chain of burger shops here in the Portland/Vancouver (Oregon/Washingon) area that makes their shakes with TIlamook Ice Cream.

I still miss the old malted milk shakes of of my younger days that were made at various soda fountains including the one at the big Gimbels store in downtown Milwaukee.

Sure sign of getting old when you think of times past.

When it lights up, it's a confirmation that the light is working cheeky

Mine is on for 11 months in a year, I just use a diagnostic tool to reset the warnings before the annual check-up and the light stays off for 2-4 weeks afterwards.
The engine makes no strange noises, doesn't loose oil or water, temperature stays where it should, runs good and sounds ok = Some sensor is playing tricks.

Soviet or Post Soviet?... One of those is way more interesting that the other... ok, marginally more interesting... actually I dare say, the newest models may be just as interesting as the Soviet models now that Renault is out of the picture.

The soviet era Lada was a good car for what it was made for.

Between 95-98, I spent almost half of my time in Russia when the new housing was built for the soldiers returning from Germany.
The only 'family cars' that managed the Russian mud season in the spring were Ladas and the Dacia made Renault 12 copies. Forget about speed, comfort or brakes but they were just sliding on top of the mud on their bellies and somehow moving forward.

It was a Soviet era Lada - and it was quite possibly the best non 4wd vehicle I have ever had for a good old Canadian winter.. (and you could start it with a crank..) I realy wanted a Niva..

This wouldn't help for the doing dishes part, but Harbor Freight used to sell an add-on laser guide for various tools... I'm not sure how one would go about installing it... maybe duct tape or something... definitely not hot glue... I imagine if it were aligned properly the little red dot would be visible enough and probably be helpful... especially at night...
You don't have cats, so that shouldn't be a problem... Of course if you are outside and using a shrub all bets are off as to whether or not a random cat comes along and starts chasing the dot... but maybe that'll teach him not to assume the dot comes without consequences.

Well, it's just a suggestion, but keep on healing and take care of the peeper... the eyeball peeper, not the peeing peeper... or is that a piddler?... either way, take care of the whole you and feel better.

My father used to have a mid 70s Fiat 124 "Special" ( or Super T... or whatever the nice version was called) when I was a kid... At the time it was a fairly nice car and compared to the other cars I was exposed to in Italy, very easy to drive (well, shift... it was the first manual transmission I ever drove)... A friend of mine who is a European car enthusiast owned or drove a Lada when he was studying abroad and mentioned a few adventures he had repairing it on a budget... he didn't like the 124 either, or most Fiats for that matter, but at least my Dad's wasn't a bad car... then again there were probably tons of mechanical differences between the licensed Soviet models and the actual Fiats... (if they were at all similar, beyond looks)...
I don't recall ever seeing anywhere a crank would attach on that, but then again that's not something one goes looking for and Italy is nothing but mountains, so generally you could always roll downhill to get a car started if you knew what you were doing.
Most of the cars that people had around there were either very bare bones or unusual cars I only later appreciated (like a 60s Citroen 2CV with the canvas roof).
