DAZ is losing sales

Since the last website revamp several months, I have been buying less and less content from here and more from second party suppliers because this site is not smart phone friendly anymore. See attachments. If the powers that be want more of my business, it needs to go back to the previous layout.

  • For such important matters, telling the company things like this is done via CS. There's no guarantee that they'll ever see it in the forums.

I never cared about the phone site. I never visit Daz on my phone or a tablet.

  • I am not sure what you are expecting to see or what you did to get there but I am not seeing that on my phone. I haven't really done much shopping on my phone ever though to see what might have changed.

or your smartphone wants to tell you to buy a new phone =D

  • Until 3 days ago a tablet was the only method I had to access the site. While not as bad as that phone effect, the image scaling and tag size does give a strong disincentive to look at new items. Regards, Richard.

I'm on a phone right now and looks fine to me.
  • Part of me feels inclined to also make some comment along the lines of "dude, upgrade," but really my iPhone 11 in Safari is barely better than that on the sale page. Still two wide, but at least I can see what the product looks like behind the new/sale tag. It's not a big deal when I'm at home because I hate using my phoe for anything, but I was abroad for the whole month of June and while it was the best sale I've participated in to date, it was also the most obnoxious experience. That said, Rendo was worse.

Looks OK here too, though I never use the phone for DAZ or any other sites, unless I'm forced to.

If you live with people under the age of 25,  they will mention that if you rotate your smartphone 90° from portrait to landscape, you will be served a more complete webpage. For example, the link to vendors doesn't show up in portrait mode while it does show up in its usual place in landscape.  They will next try to convince you to take photos and video in landscape so that the content will display properly on monitors and tv's.  The proper response is to look exaperated  and explain how you had to walk 30 miles over broken glass to bring back coal to fuel your "vcr" and watch it in portrait.

Those people are nearing 40 now... laugh

As one of the people above the age of 60 I don't have any problems with using a smartphone for anything... I just don't use one, as there still isn't a single thing that I would MAKE me use it.

On the other hand, the shopping experience with the "new, improved shop software" here in DAZland is rather laughable bad. Even on PCs

Daz is aware of the issues with mobile browsing and is working on it

Oh, really? My iPhone is old, a 2016 iPhone SE with iOS 15.7.2, but Safari and the like, i.e. other apps, have always refused to go into landscape mode and it drives me batty. Maybe I should use my old 2003 Motorola Razr.

is it possible that you have either the screen orientation physical switch or or the software switch in control center  toggled on?

...the trade-off is you have a shorter page and thus need to do more scrolling.

I just stick to shopping using a desktop I have a nice large screen, I have a keyboard (touch screens an be so sensitive that even during scrolling a page you can inadvertently open something).  Also I'm on a fully hardwired Net connection as well as have my AV and firewall keeping things secure.

That is the trick.... there are always trade-offs.  Like yourself, I buy from the desktop.  I would be really uncomfortable using an old phone with antiquated security.

Based on what I am seeing from your screenshot, I would tend to agree with you and not shop here either, but based on what I see on my hubby's Samsung s21, which is something totally different, I would tend to disagree. He upgraded because the Samsung Note5 he had was older technology and about to become obsolete. According to Team Mobile he needed a 5G capable device. Unlike me, he prefers the mobile for Daz shopping (he adds things to my cart while I build cat climbers etc) and later, I select what I want, toss some, add some etc. I never check out or browse products on a mobile device. Anyhow, his view screen looks much different than yours. For starters the menu, in portrait mode is in two columns, a much smaller font and takes up only 1/4 of the screen space. Obviously he sees 2.5 rows of images. Could it be a settings issue that makes yours so large? I have three mobile phones here, one is an iphone and the other is his old samsung. I use it to watch my animals via the yi cam. On his old samsung the Daz site looks exactly the same as it does on his new phone. Nothing wrong with the site view at all. The shopping experience could be improved in my mind, from a search & features standpoint, but I think the site has improved from what it was a year ago.

And sometimes when trying to edit this happens on any device . . . a 504.

I only shop on an iPad (in landscape mode) and it's fine on newer iPads but the site stopped working completely on an older iPad althpugh Amazon and every other shopping site works fine. I rarely shop on my computer so I have no idea if it's different or haven't noticed if it is. It seems obvious to me to shop (and take photos/videos) in landscape mode no matter what your age is lol.

Maybe, I'll have to check. I don't think it has a physical switch but it might have a SW switch.

It definitely has a software switch... if you search, people have accidentally toggled it in both control center and accessibility.

  • While on one hand, you use a computer and obviously need it for 3d stuff.... but phone browsing is almost a necessity if Daz wants to continue to encourage 24-hour store browsing and visiting so people can check in on sales and buy anytime, anywhere- how many times have people been frustrated on missing a sale because of time zones, much less away from the desk? I'm sure I'm not the only one sometimes checking my phone middle of the night to see if anything big is on sale....  (Or maybe I am, and I need to be under supervision for spending habits... ha).  It is markedly more difficult to shop on a device though when the images are covered up or distorted or won't be able to fit or zoom in.  The easier it is to browse, the easier it is to shop, and the easier it is for Daz to make money, one would assume. So while I'm not not a big phone user, I do see the need for the Daz site to be mobile friendly. It just makes sense.

  • I use my iPhone and have no issues with viewing anything here at Daz. Lol I use my iPhone, tablet and pc for Daz and many other 3d content providers. My only issue is my iPhone 13 often looses Wi-Fi and I've tried all the fixes from apple, my modem and provider.

...maybe I'm just overly cautious, but I would never enter my card or bank account number on a phone as they are just not as secure as my desktop setup. Yes it is an inconvenience but that is not an issue when it comes to protecting critical information like account numbers and personal data.

Since I had to deal with such things in a previous career life, the general rule is to keep hardware and software up to date and you are almost there.  I would trust a current smartphone over a desktop with noncurrent OS.

Loosing Wifi is usually too many 2.4GHz wifi routers in the vicinity interfereing with one another. Change to the 5GHz band. If that fails, upgrade to the newest Wifi 6 routers that have stability and security improvements.

I"m not sure if phones have the 5gHz band on them, to be honest. My expereince is that most of the time when I have that issue, it's too many phones trying to connect on the same wi-fi router.
