Just started this thread in case anyone wanted to comment or post renders. I like her and most of what's in the bundles, but on the fence about purchase and hoping for user opinions and renders.

[Are Yamato and Kozaburo still around?]...because we apparently need to be reminded of what an anime figure should really look like.
Please put your question in the post body and the title - Daz 3D Forums
note: I did, I asked if Japanese artists are still around because we need them.
One would think that all those 3rd party ports made by people like Merade, Soku or cpdaz (am I allowed to mention them or am I asking for trouble?) would be enough to clue in everyone that MMD-esque anime model in Daz3D are both possible and desired. Sakura 8 was a step in right direction after all.
Or it still about this old excuse how base shape needs to blend with other and something MMDesque is too stylized to work?
Or is it about the eye cave gimmick they dont want to do again?
At the very least Queen Isadora dForce Outfit back prop look good.
Let's wait and see how Aiko and Sakura will look.
I just bought Isadora Hair; it looks nice. I hope I'm wrong in my fear that Kiri 9 is the new Aiko. Strange mouth part, at least when she smiles. But the toon and anime genres interest me not too much anyway.
Well, 'Yamato Toys' went bust after they couldn't make enough money on their anime-like statues..
[OK, I know it's the wrong Yamato, but couldn't resist. It's the Yamato Toys statue of the Luis Royo image 'A Touch of Ice'.]
Regards,
Richard.
Nope. Definitely passing on this one.
I am getting so bummed because I wanted to actually try to enter the render contests but I didn't really care for Julia, I don't get male content unless it's free (and 99.9999% chance I won't use it) and I have no interest in this anime one. I was looking forward to todays release but oh well, I guess there's always next week...
Ooof, I really hope this isn't the new Aiko. I've spent the last month sick at home, which has meant watching a fair bit of anime from my sofa-camp. I don't recognise what I've been seeing in these offerings, but maybe I've been watching the wrong stuff :)
Nothing 3D really looks anime to me until you postwork it to death to look 2D...
If you want really good anime figures, you're gonna have to stick with Genesis 8 and RO vendors like Lexakiness.
Kiri is almost interesting enough to tempt a purchase. The heavier makeup options seem to (somewhat) obscure the misguided attempt at realism (or whatever you want to call it) and leave her with something of the desired anime aesthetic in some of the promos. Without the excessive skin details, and with proper toon shader, hair, and anime eyes... I think she could look good. Maybe great.
But the bundles aren't appealing. I've purchased several of Ergou's previous characters, but Qan doesn't work for me at all. The Isadora character is more interesting but still doesn't really grab me or scratch the anime itch. Anime City Street looks nice but I wonder if it's too heavy to be useful.
The chief items of interest (at a glance) are Kiri, the two makeup sets... and Dark Alternate Shape - which is fantastic! I want a whole bundle of *that*. The body would need work to suit my preferences (which is normal for G9, unfortunately), but the Dark Alt face looks stellar - and should have a PA credit!
DAZ's problem is they probably shouldn't have called Kiri an anime figure since there is obviously some anime fanatics that have their own idea on what an anime figure should be and will trash anything that is not what they expect. I don't do anime much, I watch some and occasionally do a themed render, so I like the way Kiri looks and can see some nice possibilities of adding her to the gene pool.
With the additional 30% off flash sale right now, that brings her to 51% off for me, so in the cart she goes.
FSMCDesigns,
Generally I agree with Wonderland: "Nothing 3D really looks anime to me until you postwork it to death to look 2D..."
Having taken Daz assets and postworked it to death to look like 2D, I find that 'anime' doesn't just stop with the figure: everything else about the scene has to carry the look of that genre. And the gamut goes beyond stricly hand-drawn and nonphotorealistic rendering. One Japanese artist I follow blends photographic backgrounds with hand-drawn figures.
I also agree with you that when you look closely at anime, kit and kaboodle and all, it comes down to several interpretations and the fans who passionately apply thier own purity tests. As with politics, the truth is more likely in the eye of the beholder.
Cheers!
Not my cup of rocket fuel. I don't think the figure looks very in style of Japanese or Korean comics or games. Also I like Overwatch and Pixar-styled toon figures better anyway. I think the figure lacks subtle yet kickass presence that I like so much in, for an example, Crocodile Liu's figures.
I think I'll pass. It could be useful for kitbashing... But G9 head and body morphs already exist.
I agree, that she didn't look like an anime character. But if you like her anyway, don't forget the 30% storewide flash sale (code 30FORYOU) right now, that brings down the Kiri 9 HD Anime Dark Bundle to $50.07 for example.
She looks so much like Kiko, I don't think I could tell them apart.
Not really my cup of tea, but she does look like a quality character. Her skin looks really good in the promos, so much better than Josies. And I like her head-to-body proportions. She looks a little less like a bobble head, compared to many previous anime characters.
I'm not a big fan of anime characters, but I definitely want the outfit she's wearing on the right side of the promo banner.
Hmm ... You could say there were hundreds of pretty good examples of 3D models of anime characters out there; there's just a slight format problem - they're plastic figures (e.g. ami ami), so a little hard to import into DS :-)
If that's the kind of anime look you want, then IMHO it's not easy to pull off with Daz's characters. (Which seems like a bit of a missed opportunity)
Not sure which it is, but it looks a lot like some of Yura's outfits.
The one with all the spiders around it and the girl? I didn't see it in the bundles, so it might be from the other store or yet to come? I am not good at the 'what outfit is this' thing, but I really don't remember seeing it at all. And it looks like something I might have bought, minus the spiders.
I was mildly in the Qan Lovely Outfit for G9, and want to see if I can fit it over leggings easily.
That was discussed in another thread. It's this: https://www.daz3d.com/spr-cy-full-body-suit-for-genesis-81-females-and-genesis-9
::eyeroll::
I've only seen four or five anime series in my entire life, but I spent a good part of a year studying the various styles and proportions for drawing. You just don't elongate the body and give a character big eyes; it would be like saying Funko Pops are in a Disney style because both have larger heads than they realistically would be. Almost nothing released here since Sakura 8 really has an accurate anime look, and despite Sakura 8 being a bit too stylized for my taste, whoever made her did their homework.
There's nothing wrong with Kiri, and I imagine she is a useful addition to the G9 family, but can we take a break from calling every stylized female with big eyes "anime" and consider getting a Japanese artist from Artstation or Pixiv to set a standard?
Thank you @Wonderland, I missed it totally. I have now wishlisted it.

Merged threads, using the Kiri 9 thread as the title-giver to avoid further duplication.
Must have happened just as I was reading the Kiri thread, because I finished and went back to the Commons and then was like, 'wait, how can there be 18 new posts the millisecond since I closed the thread ...?' Nicely otherwordly experience!
Lol, I understand the figure not being to everyone's taste, it's not my thing either personally, but if you want DAZ figures to meet a "standard" you have to ask "anime" to set a standard first.
Haha, it's funny that I usually end up liking the characters that people seem to poo-poo. Oh well...I don't really do toons, but she's nice. If I was actively arting these days, I might actually consider picking her up.
There's nothing really wrong with Kiri as I said, but maybe additional products could help achieve a more typical anime look. Toon eyebrows, smoothed toony teeth (essential!), an optional skin texture that's not quite as detailed (especially on the lips), more simple anime eye textures, and more solid polygonal hair instead of realistic transmapped hair would be a good start. Sakura 8 had a lot of those elements, as well as skin smoothing and detail-removing morphs, and they helped.
I did some renders last night to see if she was worth me keeping for the parts of her I can remix into other characters, as she's far from any style I make art for.
Her she is with the other stylised character I tried (MGHLM Jacq wear Anglea, her own tattoo's and DT's New Me Body Shapes)
Still really keen for a realistic Gen9 ribcage morph
I wanted to see how her airbrushed skin compaired to Pixie's. Her her materials and Normal maps tested over another another charcter (Fanny and a few others dialed in). The Kiri nasal crease doesn't line up here, but that *wasn't* an issue when I tried it out elsewhere, so put that down to user error for now. I'll attach the difference over Xiu as well.
Kiri's materials (including normals) over another character:
Vs Pixie's:
I don't like her, and honestly, she looks pretty awful in a few renders. To me, she's not "anime". "A wide eyes/big eyes morph does not an anime character make".
I bought a few anime books today. Maybe the guys at Daz should have a look at those
