I find the return of the freebies and the return of the holidaz funny
I've already passed over everything in these for a reason...
Anyway, Merry Christmas all, even if no gifts from Daz this year
If you didn't see it, there is a freebie for today too, but it doesn't appear on the sales page, only on the 'all freebies' page:
https://www.daz3d.com/quick-hide
Yep, I have been a bit disappointed in this year's Holiday sale overall and today is no exception. Daz is calling it 'the most wonderful sale of the year': but I have seen better sales this year. For example, the PA sale in September was way better.
it might be wonderful for them
I think the biggest problem with this sale is that it feels exactly the same every day, with the exception of new releases (and advent/freebies).
The Snow Queen has been out for about a week now. The FaceTransfer, including preorder, is closing in on a month, I think. People who wanted them, had already got them. People who didn't want them/didn't think the price is right aren't going to get them now: they're more likely to wait for a deep sale a year or two down the road.
So, there's nothing exciting about those, and they're buy-ins for many of the discounts.
And while I appreciate the ability to be able to catch up (missed one freebie from the PAs), "everything returns" is hardly enticing either: if I passed on some items at 2.99 (or $1 and a change with punches), it's unlikely that I'll buy it at $4.99. So I can see how catch ups are nice for irregular shoppers (or people missing a day or two due to holidays and maybe related travel), but from my perspective, they do nothing for regular shoppers.
After seeing "It's the best sale of the year" in the email, I immediately thought, "we'll see about that".
My time at the store was limited to:
- grab today's freebie, find and grab the freebie I missed;
- check new releases (nothing of interest for now, one "maybe" for wishlist);
- check the 2.99 deal (nope)
- check featured artists ("looks like the same selection like yesterday");
- check the advent calendar: both items are interesting.
And that's it. My choice for today will be deciding whether I want an advent calendar freebie and grab something cheap from featured artists' selection for the punch, or whether just throw the 2.99 calendar item in the cart and be done.
At the same time, I understand that it's a holiday time when people want to be with their families. Having no complex stacking sales with codes means much less support between Christmas breakfast and opening presents and whatnot, and it means less people complaining on the forums that something isn't working. If we were offered more complex sales with more stacking, I can clearly see the outrage and the frustration when something glitched for some or all people. So yeah, I can imagine no one wants that for Christmas.
But, that aside, save for the new releases, the sale is basically offering everything I could have bought a week (or even more) ago and passed on it because the deal didn't entice me enough/I didn't want the product enough. I guess it's going to be exciting only for those who got DAZ giftcards under their (digital) Christmas tree.
Well every day cannot be a Christmas day... not even on actual Christmas Day :D
Last year they were HEAVILY pushing the G9 stuff, so offers were much more waried and exciting (plus i was just starting with DAZ so I needed just about everything).
This year so far all we saw was single G9 Smurf....
Tthere is very little "game" in the sale, its big blanket discount and little variation from other sources. So far I have spent whole sale picking freebies, a few 2.99's and spot buying some more interesting Lightning Deals. Oh well maybe they will bring back tokens after new year, somehow they made it all more interesting, if a bit abusive :P
I think you are right that punch is included now.
This morning I got a G8 core figure but not one I have any interest in. The rest of the G3 & G8 items I've been offered are mildly interesting at best - but I have wishlist items for about the same price.
I'm not sure it's a good way to gauge a situation: there is always a bunch of folks that are unhayppy on the forum and outside too. Data from before Internet and quoted off the top of my head, but one of my teachers told me that someone's happy with a compagny will speak about it with ~5 people. Someone's unhappy will speak about it with ~40 people.
The sales didn't see any change like the one that happened in the middle of Daz+ sales this year (which could also have been something planned in advance and not a reaction to feedback from customers), so maybe they are happy with the level of money flowing toward their pockets and PA's pockets (people that Daz also need to keep happy).
It is not the tokens that made the difference, punches are giving 35% off, which is the same as having 7 tokens.
On November 18th, Daz increased the price for everything in the store and the 'game' hasn't been the same since.
Before the price increase the stacking discounts were taking G8 era items down to 90-94% off and $1.60-$2.60 per item
Now one gets G3 era items at 89% off and over $3 at best.
I guess my current store credit will last until March at this rate.
I haven't analyzed data, but my feeling is that for me it's the lack of stacking discounts. For someone who literally does not use characters, I bought an obscene number of G9 pro bundles between late spring and fall because I could use some of the bundled stuff (including parts of the character, like skins and shapes) and with the pro bundle, you would often get x/y/z% off when you added more stuff. Or, there were the similar "Buy one/two/three new things and get x/y/z off them/other stuff/cart" sales. When the allure of the new stuff and the math worked out, I bought bunches of these. Coupled with some offerings that haven't been as interesting to me, there have been few stacking discounts of that sort in recent weeks. That means that there's newer items that I sorta want, but 35% off 30% isn't enough to move me, and those items are languishing in my wishlist.
I already bought most of the older stuff I realistically need, so that also is a factor.
Yeah, buying new bundles at $30-40 per bundle was fine when one was able to use the stacking discounts to make the cart come down to 90% off or more - Nothing like that has been offered since November 18th and I have been picking up the freebies and checking Lightning Deals for that one item to get the cart over $1...
...I consider it the best of the year, even surpassing MM and the two Daz+ ones, the latter which used to be are my favourites until this year when they seemed just like any other sale here... Another reason I let my annual PC...I mean Daz+ membership expire. I may get a quarterly ,membership before next year's PA event...
BTW, has anyone else gotten incorrect timers on the Lightning Deals, possibly since they turned the clocks back in November? It used to switch at midnight Daz time, but dropped back an hour to 11pm. The timer is correct when it switches over, but somewhere along the way it notices that it's an hour behind and adds 1 hour to the timer, as if it were still switching at midnight. Refreshing the page fixes it.
The current sale is really very boring imo, on top of the discounts not being too good. It's been the same setup every day, and because nothing stacks interestingly, there's no reason to play cart jenga. There's a bunch of new stuff I would definitely buy if I could get the prices down a bit more, and the same goes for things in my wishlist. It's weird, we had double punches and extra discounts and such things before the holidays, but now that one would really have the time to play a bit - nothing. Ah well. Maybe they've just gotten cautious from disastrous big sales events on holidays in the past. Still, I'm disappointed.
I saw that from time to time when I kept a windows open with a timer and look at it again: instead of going from 1:00:00 to 0:59:59, it goes to 1:59:59. Well, I think it does: I never tried to check if it's the case, but the end result is the same, there is an hour that should not be her but a refresh will fix the timer.
The same here. Ever since Daz went off DST, the lightning deals have changed an hour earlier than before.
...I have yet to see a Lightning Deals offer that interests me. Often it is textures for clothing I don't have, Poses for older generations, or a character bundle that I don't care about.
...and just as I said that...
I went and checked the Lightning Deals and finally saw something I actually like, the Aiko 3 Clothing Pack (I still use her in scenes).
OK I'll be quiet now.
I don't think I've bought any Lightning Deals.
<crosses fingers that karma magic will strike me too>
Actually, from about two months ago, I started getting useful stuff in the lightning sales often enough that I started checking there. It's still hit or miss, but I suspect during December, the $1-2 I spent each day to stay active has come as often from lightning sale items as the day's $2.99 special, many of which were just outside of genres of interest to me.
I'd say pretty much all of my recent purchases have been lightning sales for $1 - $2, it's usually naff (a lot of G1, V4 type era stuff) but when you get something there can be decent offers and lately with the stacking on the punch card it's worked out okay
Lightning Deals is by far the most exciting part of Christmas Sale for me so far .... beside maybe that one Ironman sale in early December....
Just some of the stuff I have bough over past week. Every single one from LD:
$2.26 King Wash Laundromat
$1.96 KuJ dForce Goth Punk Outfit for Genesis 8 and 8.1 Females
$1.22 Mecha Hangar
$2 KA Leprechaun FX
$1.16 Monster Skulls HD
$1.67 dForce Khamsin Outfit for Genesis 8 Female(s)
$1.16 Tailgate Party Poses for Genesis 8
$1.75 dForce Shadow Guard Outfit for Genesis 8 Female(s)
$1.96 dForce Wayward Curls Hair for Genesis 8 and 8.1
Did anyone else get a cart warning that "Deals expire in x minutes (at 28 past the hour)"? I 've never seen that. I just kept the freebies and a couple of modestly priced items and called it a day .. there's no sale to comb through.
Yes me too
Yeah, I get that all the time, as I usually wait until the last hour to decide.
Is the Snow Queen Pro Bundle and its AddOns gone from the promos? Yesterday I could get the Pro Bundle for $32. Today not lower than $45. Well, then good bye Pro Bundle. See you on another Sale Occasion in 2024 but won't pay > $30 then :-)
But at 3:28 pm Daz time? That's a weird time for anything to end.
This year, I had determined to follow the patterns of the sales from the first two years I'd shopped Daz and focus on June, October, Black Weekend, and December when the good sales were, even actually saving up money for months instead of spending as I went along. But they broke the cycle hard this year, and I bought a new guitar instead. Today and yesterday just shattered my illusions that it'll ever be as good as it was, and I feel okay with no longer burning cash on assets. I had money ready to burn, and was just... meh when I saw the last couple days. This whole month, really.
There were a few things I had wanted to buy earlier in the month but let them pass because Christmas Eve was coming. Now I hate that I missed them, and will wait until they drop down in six months or so with a shrug.
Steam got my money instead. This month stunk.
