2007
October 2004, after DAZ (Digital Art Zone) 3D purchased Bryce 5.01 from Corel (Studio version was 0.8).
I first downloaded DS on 20/10/2012, so it's fast aproaching my eleventh anniversary. I can still remember my first render, the dragon slayer scene that is bundled with Studio. I changed the sex of the dragon slayer and gave her a curvier figure. Sadly, I've managed to mislay the render, it's probably buried somewhere deep within my renders library.
Cheers,
Alex.
around 2018, saw it mentioned on a reddit post and was curious. My wallet will never forgive me for that
I discovered Daz in 2002 while looking for resources for a conputer graphics class I took while in Engineering school. At the time I mainly joined to collect freebies in case I could afford Poser one day (I was a poor student then).
And then in 2004 Daz released the first public beta of DS, and the rest is history.
Late in 2019, so that's nearing four years now. I don't remember how I discovered Daz specifically, but coming from a photography background, I wanted to improve my lighting skills without having to invest a ton in studio lights and those sorts of equipment. My Instagram feed tracks my transition.
These are my early renders from winter of 2019 ...
As a long time D&D gamer, I started to render scenes as hand outs for my players ...
Did I ever join any Daz contests? Yep, I did. I won $5.00 to boot. Thanks, Daz!
Then, like a lot of Daz users, I got bitten by the comic book bug, taking up Blender and Clip Studio Paint to broaden my storytelling toolset. Below is one of the earliest I shared to the Daz Forum. That's been my schtick ever since. Once again, thanks, Daz.
Cheers!
Before DAZ was DAZ. I was using Poser back then and the first thing I bought was Victoria 1-The Millenium Woman. I came over to DAZ Studio whan Genesis was released.,
Late 2014, G2 was wrapping up and G3 was soon to be released.
2002-ish
Another before it was Daz, though I collected only freebies in the Zygote days. First purchase was, as I recall, Victoria and Michael when they were discounted for the release of Victoria 2.
I discovered Daz Studio on the cover disc of a magazine (version 2.3). Hunting on the internet, I found out that Daz had recently made all the Gen4 base figures (and earlier generations) free. My first "purchases" in January 2010 were to scoop up all those figures. I also upgraded to DS3 (free for the standard version). They also ran weekly freebies then (without purchase) so I grabbed all of those too.
I joined Daz+ (when it was still called Platinum Club) during the Anniversary Sale that year and I'm still in. That's when spending actual money started, including upgrading to DS3 Advanced for an Anniversary offer price of $1.88. I now have a 272-page Product Library in my account as testament to my addiction.
2004
Wow, this casual enquiry really made me stop to think about when I actually started with DAZ Studio.
I had been playing with some free Zygote models and that led me to DAZ. I started playing with DAZ Bryce on Thursday September 7th, 2006 and DAZ Studio on Sunday October 28th, 2007.
DAZ Studio was so different from Poser that I did not start working with it until 2012 and the genesis of Genesis reached a tipping point for content. I think I was a Poser 6.0 user starting in the spring 2005.
I dabbled in Vue, but abandoned it due to the purchsed model DRM encryption restrictions. That was why I started with Bryce in 2006, which also started me into making my own basic OBJ models and bringing them into Bryce and Poser.
Until 2012, I was mainly using Poser. with Victoria/Michael Generation 3 and 4. I started buying Generation 3 and 4 content from the DAZ store in 2008 and Renderosity in 2009.
Wow, has it really been that long!?
SOME ZYGOTE GOODNESS:

2003, according to my account page.
Not sure, I was aware of Zygote when I was first using Poser. My join date is Dec 2004 which may have been to get in on the DS beta release or it may have been to snag something else. All of my content then was freebies and stuff off cover disks. I know I downloaded the first version of DS and used it more or less exclusively until 4.0 dropped. First purchases were 2005.
2002, for the free offer of Victoria 1 LoRez. For use in Poser 4. DAZ Studio was not even in development in those days.
At the time of writing a little over 10 years ago.
My gf was the first to get into 3D graphics (it's a passion of hers) and I also got a good feel for it. Enough to grab the full "suite" back in the day: Daz Studio, Hexagon and Bryce, never really looked back. All the things I could do were amazing, and over time things only got better. Heck; this was a time before Iray & Filament; I was still messing around on my Windows 7 32bit computer! :)
Really fun days in hindsight: I once managed to create a scene but after all was said and done I was never able to load it again because my PC simply couldn't handle it due to its size. Even though, in context, it was hardly excessive; iirc 3 figures and a few props. Fortunately my later Windows 10 PC had no issues with that anymore.
In the mean time I 'replaced' Hexagon with ZBrush (quite a game changer) and I'm still quite satisfied with all the things I manage to do with Daz Studio.
According to my order history, June 1st, 2013. I think I just tried it at first, and maybe was a little overwhelmed at the product, I don't really remember my reasoning for why I grabbed it in the first place. But, I didn't touch it again till February 2021 when I made my first purchase, Alanis for Genesis 8. Haven't stopped playing with it since.
My first purhase from what is now Daz3D included the Millenium Woman and the Millenium Man, which now are rerred to as Victoria 1 and Michael 1. I am not sure if the company name had become Daz3D at that point or if it was still Zygote. I do know that the figures were to be used in Poser, not Studio. I go back to Poser 2. My order history puts it later, so I may have purchased Michael 1 and Victoria 1 through a third party vendor. My history according to my account lists my first Daz3D order as being October, 2003, and included Victoria 3. I think that may reflect company mergers, sort of the way content I purchased from RDNA is now in the Daz3D accounts.
My first "official activity" here was November of 2004 to get the latest version of the DS Beta (IIRC and as others have noted, there were versions for download and freebies available before that without registering).
(NOTE: more about my DAZ 3D journey below for anyone interested, if your not interested please feel free to totally ignore and save time by not reading)
My first figure focused software was Poser 3, then Poser 4. I didn't really get super interested in human figures until I got the Carrara upgrade (by Eovia then) where Carrara was able to "host" Poser scenes (Carrara 4 as I recall) using Transposer. IMHO the Carrara render engine was much better than Firefly in Poser, so the extra work was worth the results for me. Then Eovia developed the ability to read Poser format data directly, I was hooked (I was actually on the closed beta for that).
Why this is all sort of important to my story is that it was Carrara and it's full 3D feature set that got me so interested in DAZ content. I might have gone elsewhere with my 3D journey if it wasn't for Carrara. Unfortunately, DAZ quit developing Carrara. This forced me to make some decisions. For human 3D figure work I'm using DS now, but for my other 3D needs/projects Blender is my new go to software. In the grand scheme of things, DAZ dropping Carrara development forced me to a better solution for non human figure based work (or moderate figure based work), but I'd really like native figure support in a single software that does everything again.
In October 2003 Over at Rendo before joining up here, I used poser until Daz implemented Iray then I only used Daz. My first purchases were made around the time of Victoria / Michael 1 and 2 Zygote days
Before it was Daz also.
I think it was 2004 for me. I remember my first purchases being V2 but I really started getting serious when V4 came along. My discovery of DAZ came about after I had been hooked on playing The Sims and following the community who made content for those characters. I fancied trying to make my own characters and looked around for some character creation software. DAZ was mentioned a lot on their forums but when I eventually started using DAZ Studio, all interest in The Sims dropped away and I started making my own stories with content bought from DAZ.
I arrived like a stranger in the night back in 2005
Back then long time ago when grass was green.
I'm another one who started pre-DAZ (Zygote?)
I have product dates going back to January 2000 in my order history here.
Was a Poser user back then, started with the original Poser (circa 1995?)
Started using DS about 3 years ago after 20-ish years of Poser.

My account info says 2008, but it was probably at least a year and a half before that, because when I first registered there was some nonsense problem with whatever password I had not working, so I re-registered a year or so later and that one didn't give me problems... so 2006 or 2007 most likely.
My first order was 2006, but I know I used Daz before that, as I used version 1.7, tho for some reason that does not show anywhere on my acct. So whenever version 1.7 was available, that's the year I started with Daz and this site.
