Just saw the iReal video and I'm impressed. I'm familiar with particle generators having used Boris FX Particle Illusion but didn't know that Daz Studio can do it- I'm new here so there's a lot of things I don't know lol. Carry on

I don't know which iReal video you're talking about, but particle effects have been available for a while in DS thanks to Alvin Bemar, who makes a lot of plugins to add functionality common in other 3D apps to DS, in this case Parsis.
Hey Gordig, this is the one I've seen the video for: https://www.daz3d.com/ireal-animated-clouds. I'm totally new to Daz softwares so I'm still discovering what can be done with each program like Carrara, Bryce and Daz Studio and what pluigin/addons and textures work with each program- a bit confsuing to say the least lol. I see Poser textures and I'll assume they work with Daz Studio but I'm not sure. I put AniMate hip hop for Carrara in my cart just to test it out- I guess it makes for easier animations- I really don't understand the tech yet but if it will make things easier then I'll give it try. Sorry to bother you with a beginner question but can you tell me why Rodent Base by AM (https://www.daz3d.com/rodent-base-by-am) says it's only compatible with Daz Studio 4.22. I've been reading that Daz Studio is not really good for animations but Carrara is, but the Rodent Base by AM is not compatible with Carrara...Just a bit confused lol, well more than a bit. Can you please offer some clarification? Why would I not be able to rig and animate the rodent in Carrara? Sorry if my questions are annoying. I just wanna get off to a good start. Thanks a lot
Personally suggest you start from DS other than Carrara if you have not bought it yet or if you're not a Cararra veteran... Animating this Rodent (https://www.daz3d.com/daz-rodent) in DS should be a good choice.
Hi crosswind, I've read on the forum that Carrara is better for animation while Daz Studio is better for still poses. I've also read that it's easier to animate using Carrara rather than DS. From what I've read DS is good to model but then should be bridged over to Blender for animating, whereas Cararra can do both modeling and animating well. As for rodents, I kind of have my heart set on squirrels but I do appreciate the link, and that mouse is definitely cute lol. Thanks for your reply.
It's more the case that DS is not well-equipped for animation, while Carrara has the kind of animation tools that other 3D programs have. It's possible to animate in DS, but is not generally recommended.
DS has no modeling capabilities. It's great for setting up characters and scenes, though.
I should note that I've never used Carrara, but it is an all-in-one program like Maya or Blender, albeit one that hasn't been updated in years. If you do attempt to animate in DS, I'd recommend Cascadeur for creating your animations.
Hi Gordig, thanks for the info. Do you know anything about aniMate tech? Apparently it also makes animating characters easier. So many options- reminds me of working in pro audio lol.
aniMate uses pre-made animations called AniBlocks, which you can string together and blend to create larger animations. It's certainly the easiest way to animate in DS, but the aniblocks have to be purchased. If you buy an animation pack from DS that's not AniBlock-based, you can bake them to AniBlocks yourself. DartanBeck has a big thread on aniMate if you have more questions.
Technically right to a certain extent... but that'll depend on various factors in terms of making a better choice from very beginning nowadays... 3D technology is progressing while Cararra has already stopped update... Well, yes... TBH I'm a lover of DS and Blender as they're both evolving... BTW, I'm diving in Cascadeur as well. DS assets + Cascadeur + Blender will be a new pipeline for me for next stage...
WendyLuvsCatz and Dartanbeck are both veterans in animation with Cararra and DS, they're now mostly work on animations with DS. They're much more qualified than me to comment on this topic if they can chim in with their thoughts.
Anyway, that'll be still up to your preferences and choice at the end of the day.
Cool thanks. So what I'm gathering is that aniMate is a specific workflow that anyome can learn themselves if they know DS well enough. Currently I have the aniMate Carrara importer, the aniMate2 prgram/plugin and one aniMate motion set in my cart. Is this overkill? Gonna check out the thread. Thanks again.
Hey again! Well, I'm a total beginner with Daz software and I think for now I'll start with the older stuff and hopefully progress from there. I'm hoping to create a short squirrel animation in a toon-like environment (like The Glades or The Pond textures)- I love that plastic toy look lol. I have found an animation set I plan to use with aniMate2 software called aniMate Hip Hop Moves 1. . I also have the Carrara aniMate importer tool in my cart so I can possibly use the dance animations in Carrara. Then there's Bryce, which is cool too and has a nice little support system still going- so many choices lol! I still use an ancient titler and basic 3D modeling program called Motion Studio 3D by Corel- lonnng ago discontinued lol but I still find it use for high quality 3D animated titles and sme basic object animation. And that brings me here to Daz world, it's time to take off the training wheels lol. Anyway, I'm just rambling half asleep. Goitta crash for a few hours. I have almost all of the iReal products and I freaking Love them!
They don't use a particle emitter in Daz Studio, he's somehow captured the particle behaviors and uses them as behaviors that get applied via aniMate 2.
All of the steam/fog you see moving around in here is from his iReal Animated Clouds
Some of them I've actually placed in the scene but my normal use of these can be seen in this short workflow demo. The bird flocks are iReal, there are iReal Bees too, but we can't really see them. I put them in to add a little added realism by the rocks - if you look closely when I'm adding the second foreground element, the bees are far lower left corner buzzing around the rocks and plants. The foggy mist is a single iReal cloud that I rendered all by itself to an sequenced png with alpha, and layer it in and blend it using Fusion.
EDIT: If you watch it in YouTube, I have approximate render times for each frame of each element in the description. It really went together quickly!

Ocean was my first and I love it! Here, I added it to Andrey Pestryakov's Stones and Structures to put motion in the river. I love how it turned out
The video itself was my response to someone saying that there's simply no way to get dForce to work, so I asked dForce to simulate this, which is not a dForce-ready outfit. Of course, I've been simulating that hair since I got to Daz Studio! LOL
you can certainly as Dartanbeck shows, animate in DAZ studio
I have been doing so a lot lately
it's still missing a lot of features I like and use in Carrara but the advantage is all the figures and content are compatible with it
unlike Carrara where just loading Genesis 3and 8 will crash the program
(unless you can get hold of a modified character elsewhere set up by Mistylara that was discontinued)
actually one of the easiest programs I have for animating characters is iClone6 but that comes at a hefty price, they are on iClone8 now which is considerably better but I haven't been able to afford to upgrade, as I said very very expensive
Wow man, just wow. I wanny say "Holy ****!" but I'm keeping it clean in here lol. Well, I have the free stuff offered by Daz Studio through DIM but still haven't been able to purchase Carrara or Bryce, or any of the textures and plugins, plus all my discounts are gone:( I tried emailing sales multiple times over the weekend with screenshots of the error message, my cart contents etc and every email bounced back- Tried getting them on Twitter too, and no response, so just waiting to see what's going on. As frustrating as it's been I've had a lot of fun watching videos like yours and other artist's work to keep me inspired so thanks for doing what you do.
Hi Wendy! First of all thanks for giving me a heads up about potential crashes trying to use Genesis 3 and 8 with Carrara- because I definitely would have tried it - resulting in a crash lol. I've seen videos of iClone 6- but as you said wayyyy too expensive, even if it is easier to use. If I ever get to purchase Carrara (still dealing with a checkout error), that coupled with DS and Bryce should keep me content for a awhile. On another note do you, or anyone reading this know of any other emails I could use to contact Daz support or sales? Every email I've sent bounced back. I sent the emails to: sales@daz3d.com and they all bounced back. So...not sure what's going on but I hope to eventually get it sorted. Anyway, thanks again for the valuable info. See ya around

Hey crosswind, I totally respect your opinion. It's just that I see so many passionate Carrara users and it offers a lot in one package- that's appealing to me. If Daz offers it to me at the reduced price I tried (at least 30 times) to purchase, then I'll still probably get it- at this point kiiiinda getting impatient lol.

I Love Carrara, but expect to have to put in a lot more work to get content to look right in it. All shaders have to be redone by hand by the user - unless there's a Carrara Shader pack for it, which are no longer being made.
With that in mind, I tend to agree with crosswind on that count - for most newcomers. However... it's such a wonderful experience once we get used to it. I love creating the shaders, so that's not really an issue for me.
But I must say, when I (fairly recently here) got into Daz Studio, loaded in a Genesis 8 character and set the view to Iray, it blew my freaking mind!!! I've been trapped within Daz Studio ever since!
If you do go the Carrara and Bryce route, I can help with that too. For me, I love the software even if it is considered to be "abandonware".
I still haven't taken my Bryce plunge - though it's always on my mind. So I created a Bryce Learning Center for myself and others. It's packed with information that I've been gathering to learn from. I've just recently added a pdf to that main page on how to install it, because it won't show up in DIM or anyhting like that. Check out those instructions because there are several things in your account when you buy it - this tells you exactly what to install, and how to download it. The rest is self-explanatory - explore, absorb, and have fun! Oh... and Ask if you need help!!! I bought Bryce Pro, but have yet to dip my toes into its water.
Carrara, being my favorite reason to turn on a computer for So Many Years is set up a bit differently. Even though I was planning to get into Daz Studio at the time, Dartanbeck.com started off as a massive compilation of Many Things Carrara, simply because I've been into it and into helping others with it for so long - a had a lot to include.
Carrara Zone is a landing page, and only a tip of the iceburg. The navigation bar on the top holds a lot more, and many of those pages within hold even more... so... yeah. Lots to take in and absorb.
Since Daz 3d (apparently)* stopped developing Carrara, many of the plugin creators made their products free or Open Source. So the Plugins pages might be a great place to begins - just be careful and start with only the ones you want or need most. If you want to get into Carrara environments and such, my Daz 3d products for Carrara are now free.

Then came Carrara EnvironKits, which are a fun way to create various landscapes from the browser, rather than building everything from scratch. They include Many presets alond with a whole lot of drag n' drop assets, along with a selection of shaders I've made - so they were some pretty huge products. I still use them.
But for getting Genesis working nicely in Carrara, I have a special Character Design 101 course with downloadable scene template to help get things started. Keep in mind, however, that I've Always been into animation, so my way of setting up shaders, figures and their lighting is for Speed Rendering.

there are occasional wishlist sales too
both while old and no longer supported/developed are great programs in their own right
especially for creating scenery, backgrounds etc
and of course modelling (yes Bryce even has some modelling capabilities)
DAZ studio is a content loading studio though Ultrascenery somewhat fills that missing functionality
Yeah. Agreed! They're so worth adding to your collection. Back before I bought Carrara, I downloaded and printed out the user manuals for Bryce, Daz Studio and Carrara.
Although I haven't dipped into Bryce yet, I already know I'll love it when I do.
I can speak for Carrara, however, and it is Amazing! We can model using So Many different ways, the Texture Room is a Blast! Animated primitives, like fire, clouds, ocean, fog... built right into it - load with a click! The Realistic Skies... the Terrain Modeler, the Particle Emitter, solid-body physics, built-in non-linear animation, Plant modeler with animation settings... it just oges on and on.
Not to mention All of the Content that comes with it!!!

They were heavily discounted this past weekend and I tried for days to purchase them but kept receiving an error when I tried to check-out no matter what pay method I tried. I emailed Daz sales support numerous times and all the emails bounced back after 24 hours or so with a SERVFAIL message on their end, so I don't know what is going on, and I'm beginning not to care to be honest. I tried messaging them on Twitter as well, and still nothing. At this point I can confidentally say Daz support is below expectations. Anyway, removed everything from my cart as the discounts are not longer applied. LOL, just received yet another email from them saying 'Congratulations! You've unlocked 3 FREE MONTHS of Daz+ Membership! lol. The email before that was a coupon code for $100.00 worth of stuff. Meaningless to me since no matter what I do I can't actually use the coupon codes anyway. Well, I think I'm gonna relax with some video games- any gamers here? Currently playing Skyrim...again lol. For real, it's a fantastic game even though it's like 10 years old now, or more. Later creators.

@Fen - I don't usually play games. As soon as I start to, I think up and animation I want to work on, which is a lot more fun to me! LOL
That said, I'm a BioWare nerd. I still play Neverwinter Knights (the first one) from time to time and then sometimes slip into some Mass Effect. But for Mass Effect, I need a bunch of addons and hacks, which is time-consuming in its own right, whereas Neverwinter Nights was designed around the idea that they wanted players to be able to easily make their own hacks. It even comes with the actual toolset they used to design all of the bazillion levels. It's cool. Paint in a waterfall and it animates right in the editor!
Then came CD Projekt RED, who started their Witcher series using the Neverwinter Nights engine - though massively revamped.
I origianally bought the entire series for the art books and music that come with them (at GOG, which is owned by CD Projekt RED, every Witcher game is like a Collector's Boxed Set that you download!)
While at GOG I found The Shadowrun Trilogy, which I really enjoy! Not as old as it feels and looks when you play, these games were just developed that way and it's Brilliant! I have those all installed on my laptop so I can run the shadows any time I feel the urge!
So eventually I bought Cyberpunk 2077 - long after they fixed it. OMG!!! What a Great Game! I actually had to take a break from animating until I conquered it twice! So Beautifull! Such an Amazing soundtrack, such a Fun Game to Play!!!

Bioware huh? I'm with ya on Mass Effect- got the trilogy. Never played Neverwinter Knights though. Gotta say though if you like mods, you'd LOVE Skyrim man- This time around playing it I'm not using any mods- just doin' the grind lol. I got the Witcher too- came with an artbook and CD- like you said, they just pile on the goodies. Being a mostly console gamer I missed out on some big games-I think the last PC game I played was FEAR lol. For me, because I'm a music nerd my laptops and PCs we reserved for that- didn't want to be distracted by games while I worked on music. In recent years I've eased up on gaming to focus on learning visual arts, which led me to this great community of talented artists- I'm in the presence of greatness, and I like it lol. Your artwork that was inspired by crushing Cyberpunk (twice lol) 2077 is next level- I mean next-next level- it's clear that you've mastered your craft and we beginners really appreciate the way you give back- I hope I can do that too someday, cause it's a beautiful thing. Hopefully, someone will make a port of NK over to console so I can play it lol! By the way, cute gf you got there lol. It'll be fun to create my own characters someday too. See ya around man.
