The product contains belly dance animation. I am looking for the outfit used in the promo images.

Thank you for the suggestion, but it is the style of the skirt that has my interest.

My bad but yet even more proof how Daz loses out in sales by not listing products used in promo images.

When I tried to reply to your reply but I could not type outside your original quote. So I pasted it in green above.

You are correct. If the item is avaialbe at the DAZ Store, then DAZ should have section for PA submissions that says please list product links to any items in promo images that use DAZ products.

One of the many bugbears with Daz. When you post an image they would like it and give you the opportunity to credit the items used in you work of art, maybe this would encourage sales for said items. But this is a choice you can make and rightly so. If I pay for something I don't feel beholdnt to the seller. I may credit them if I am impressed enough. As for items being credited on store pages, it does happen but so rarely to be maddening

There already is a section for PA's to list other Daz store products used in the promos. Many of us do make use of it. I personally think it's a good thing to do and I appreciate seeing that information as a customer.

However, sometimes the products are not from the Daz store and, thus, we are unable to list them. Also, some PA's outsource some of their promo renders to trusted people they feel are better at rendering than they are. And in such cases, it's possible the PA doesn't know which non-product items were used.

Beyond those cases, it adds even more time and effort to an already quite involved submission process. It's an optional section, and while it is good for Daz and for the other PAs who would receive the link traffic, from a strictly selfish standpoint, it doesn't do anything for the PA submitting the product. And it would be tricky for Daz to make that section madatory since, as I said before, it's not always possible to put anything in it.

Thank you for explaining that. laugh

Any chance you know who makes the outfit I asked about? Does anyone? Enquiring minds want to know?

Is there a way to contact the PA and ask them?

You can list them, just don't post links to them, simply tell the name of the outfit or whatever and where to find it, dont' need a link for that.

Thank you for mentioning that. Yes, I am resourceful enough that if some kind soul will tell me the product name then my sleuthing abilities will kick in and I will hunt down the source. smiley

FYI, we actually cannot list them if they are not part of the DAZ store.  They are entered as links that are created as icons at the bottom of the product page.  So unfortunately only DAZ products are listed.  I try to generually do my best to track them as I make my promos, but sometimes a few get missed.  It is a shame that we cannot promote other artists work (from other stores).  They are after all likely customers here too, and it's good for the whole community to be able to help promote quality work.  At least by using their products it pushes some to look for them elsewhere and support their work too.

  • At some point Daz is going to have to realize they are not the only 3D store out there. Even in real life, at any store, they will actually direct you to another store if they don't have something or if there's a cheaper price. Those stores end up with more customers as a result, maybe Daz should take the hint.

LOL, I work in retail management and we never direct customers to the competition.

Personally, I feel many of the people asking about items don't really look first because most of the time when I reply with an answer to a post, it's from doing a quick search myself and finding it first.

I searched for the skirt in question and didn't find it, so it's very possible it was made for the promo.

To clear up some assumptions that seem to have cropped up,

    1. I did look for the outfit and scarf/skirt on DAZ and some other site but couldn't find it under many different search terms. I have also helped other people answer this question for other products.

    2. I do not know how I could get in contact with the PA to ask them if this is item is custom or from another site.

    3. If the item was offered at a site other than DAZ and you believe it is bad manners to offer a link to the product, something I have seen done here on many occasions in the last decade, then you could do as Faeryl Womyn stated and simply type the name of the product and I could Lycos.com search for it myself.

    4. I have worked in sales for many years and I have told customers they could get what they want at a competitors if we could not provide it. I have even helped them get in contact with the competitor. That was even before the internet when we thought BBS (and get-togethers) was awesome and it was not SUPER easy to find where else to buy something.

I had junior sales reps ask me why would I do that. If you show the customer the confidence you have in your products and services, which you should have, then your ability to rise above pretending the competition does not exist should win you the respect of good potential customers. If we had the product/service, and thought the customer was shopping around, then I would work to build rappore so that when I said "after you have looked around call me and lets see what we can do for you." I have always advised reps to never knock the competition but simply focus on why choosing us was the better decision, as it should be if we are to be competitive. Improve, innovate, or die is true in war, work, and life.

You have to have confidence in your products/servces if you want to be competitive. It shows self-confidence and maturity to be able to acknowledge your competitor and say sure they are good, but we are great and here's why.

    SO

For the freaking love of all things that are sacred, if you, or someone you love, know the product name of the scarf/skirt mentioned in the original post please, please, don't be shy come foward into the light and name names. Sharing is caring! Be a Care-Bear!

I'll be honest with you @hjake.  I actually spent a good 15 minutes looking around for it after my post today (I needed a break from making poses).  Searches on stores didn't seem to help.  I usually try looking through certain artist stores who I think the product could be made by.  Didn't turn up anything... It's weird because I feel like the "belt" portion of the skirt is very familiar to me and I even wondered if I didn't have the product in my library already, but alas, nothing.

Interestingly, searching around through people's stores gets you looking at other items, which may make people want to buy more.  It's like the Netflix model of keeping you always looking around so you want to keep watching (or buying in this case). Maybe I'm just reading too much into it though... :)

The only other suggestion I would have is you could submit a ticket which DAZ could relay to the artist (Havanalibere) and they might be able to answer your question.  It's a longshot, but you never know.  I'll keep my eyes peeled and if I ever come across it I'll check back into this chat group.  Best of luck with your search!

  • It looks like a "Marvelous Designer" skirt,  they do have a garment asset storefront on their site.

@ New Guy and FirstBastion - I added a comment to the promo video asking my question. I will send a support ticket asking my question for the PA and asking if not available, then would the PA considering converting to DAZ product.

Last night, I read in the YouTube comments a reply that suggests FirstBastion is correct: "I don't use Dforce to simulate clothes, I always animate clothes in Clo3d or Marvelous."

Thank you to you Care-Bears. smiley

That's right ~~ but OP wants the skirt. Like NewGuy, I definitely have the expression of having seen that skirt somewhere... either on Rendo or on Arstation...

  • That looks fairly simple to replicate in Marvelous. I'll see if I have some time this week to have a stab at it but it will be up to you to provide the shaders! Which generation do you want it for?

As others in this thread have said, I swear I've seen that or even have it, but I can't actually find it.

First off, that would be a very generous thing to do. You definitely get some Care-Bear hearts for that. smiley.Hey maybe your karma or credit karma score goes up (Hahaha).

Texturing is not an issue for me.

If you decide to make this clothing in Mavelous Designer, then this would be even better if it was two piece set. A triangular hip scarf rolled and tied over one hip and a second clothing item of low rise peasant type skirt with slits for each leg when the leg is presented forward. Over the hip scarf the belly dancer would wear a separate hip belt (like a belly chain) that would contain beads and metal discs so it would shimmer and shake as the dancer performs. Just having a really good hip scarf I can put over a skirt would be the most impotant item which I can not kitbash or make in Blender.

I looked at buying Mavelous Designer but I can not justify the cost for something I would not use very often.

If you do end up spending your time making this, I think it could be the foundation for something you sell down the road.

A really nice belly dancing costume would be nice.

You can get some inspiration from this, however this is not the skirt I have in mind: More like the skirt in the original post. Think Gypsy skirt.

For me the hard part will be texturing the scarf since it must look like one fabric wrapped. Not sure how I will do that. I have bought many scarf products here so I we look at how they were textured.

All helpful hints and advice are welcome. smiley
