Shirt Search Help!
Hi all! I was hoping you guys might be able to assist me with finding a specific type of shirt for a piece I'm working on. It's for a male character, but I can try to convert female clothing...
So here is the example...only issue is I need something with sleeves. Can anybody recommend a shirt like this, but one that has sleeves? It's really about that partially exposed chest area that I'm needing, along with the slim waist because I'm going to put him in a corset (trust me, corsets can be hella hot on men)...and it is a medieval fantasy piece so it can't be an obviously modern shirt. But, I would prefer it have a collar. I know the product for this outfit has a jacket with sleeves, but I only want a shirt. And it needs to be either G8 or G9...possibly G3 if it's super high quality. It needs to be able to hold up next to a photoreal G9...so sorry, old stuff just doesn't really cut it.
So to summarize...
- partially exposed chest
- sleeves
- collar
- can't be obviously modern in style
- no old V4/M4, Genesis, or Genesis 2 recommendations plz
Thanks!

The first thing that comes to mind is the recent CB Ethan, which is sort of like that:
dForce CB Ethan Clothing Set for Genesis 9 | Daz 3D
Yes I have that and that is good suggestion! Though I wish the neckline was wider to expose more of the chest. I could try mesh grabber, but try to manipulate it to much and you end up with wonk.
I also have this one in my consideration, though I'd have to do work with the loose torso to put it under a corset - https://www.renderosity.com/marketplace/products/143395/mercy-poet-shirt-for-g3-and-g8-females. I'm just not sure on the collar because what I'd like to do is put this necklace on him as well...and I think that neckace might look better with a more rigid collar. I know...I'm picky!!! :(
https://www.daz3d.com/torridus-outfit-for-genesis-8-and-81-male-and-torment
By the same vendor and has some sleeve options https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-legend-outfit-for-genesis-9
I have this - unfortunately the quality isn't there...and it's too tight. I was looking for something more flowy. I might be able to do something with it if I remove that specific corset and cut the cuffs off the bottom of the sleeves, then dForce and set the expansion-contraction ratio to expand...but the sleeves would still look weird with no real end to them.
Sadly, the quality doesn't appear to be there. There's a collar, but not much to it. And what is with the lace holes but no laces? I would also need to see what the sleeves look like without the bracers. Because I'm going for a more relaxed and "noble" look, the bracers would have to go.
This one isn't really formal enough for what I need. And while there are sleeve options, there still are no sleeves on the piece that has the lower neckline.
I'm watching this thread because whatever you end up picking, I might be interested in it too - and also some of the suggestions along the way.
What about this one: https://www.daz3d.com/contemporary-romeo-outfit-for-genesis-8-male-s
You can use the geometry editor to delete the top laces, and if you add dForce to it, then it should open up similar to the image you showed. I have added dForce to the item, so I know it simulates well.
You can do the same trick with this one: https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-shrouded-assassin-outfit-for-genesis-8-males, ie delete the ties and simulate. This shirt comes with a corset you could consider, or hide it to use you own.
Could any of these work?

https://www.renderosity.com/marketplace/products/155684/dz-g8m-dforce-poetz-set-2
https://www.renderosity.com/marketplace/products/138763/dz-g8m-fazhion-set-4 (probably too modern, but you never know)
https://www.daz3d.com/crimson-seas-for-genesis-3-male-s (you can see the shirt without the coat in this gallery pic, the texture add-on has a few nice options)
https://www.renderosity.com/marketplace/products/125325/dforce-poets-shirt-for-g8f (for G8F but might convert)
Contemporary Romeo doesn't convert to G9 well at all, but the laces are most of the problem there. I would need to see how it looks after simulating...particularly the sleeves. There's not a lot of detail on the cuffs...they just kind of gather in and then puff out but with no geometry to suggest how/why it does that (realism, I mean...if there was stitching there at the gather then it would be fine and convincing).
Shrouded Assassin might be good because it has ties on the sleeves to make the gathering believable. It doesn't have a collar, though. I would need to see what it looks like simulating without the laces...and get rid of that godsawful corset. I need to find the right corset, and that is not it. (But again, no collar.)
I don't want much, do I? Haha.
Poetz set - have the first...there's not a whole lot of detail to speak of on this shirt. The neckline also doesn't go low enough.
Crimson Seas - have this - the sleeves are a bit too simple...not formal enough, I mean
Lully's Poet Shirt - have this - could be an option, but I think Rhiannon's Mercy Poet Shirt would be better. But I'm still not sure a frilled neckline is what I'm looking for because he's going to be wearing a statement neckpiece. In my head those two don't go together.
Thank you everybody for the suggestions! I may poo-poo some of them, but I am definitely grateful! I just have a very specific scene in my head and nothing I've been able to find ticks all the boxes.
I'd even consider .obj clothing that I need to rig myself (this type of shirt should be easy given it will be dForce).
I always kitbash everything, but it's hard to combine sleeves from one shirt and body from another when you don't have a vest or doublet to hide the seams under. Then again...I could theoretically put it under an open doublet. But would you wear a doublet over a corset? Hmmmm. I don't think so? All the "man corset" pictures I've searched on google have the corset as a fashion piece so it's not hiding under a doublet.
A few more options for "chest-exposing top with sleeves that might work under a corset" (some of them out of the female closet again)
https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-torikku-outfit-for-genesis-81-male
https://www.renderosity.com/marketplace/products/162568/dforce-social-genesis-8 (with a bit of shader magic to make it look less modern)
https://www.renderosity.com/marketplace/products/158782/dforce-dally-genesis-8 (Same remark about the textures)
Maybe https://www.renderosity.com/marketplace/products/157683/dforce-sanguine-genesis-8 if you shorten it to have a tunic
Oooh I didn't even think of using a dress...which would be do-able because I could cut it off right under the corset.
Something like this might even work...just removing the undershirt piece - https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-modern-romantique-outfit-for-genesis-3-and-8-females. It has a collar, but not a super frilly poet collar, so it wouldn't detract from the pearls. This might work!
Since others are watching this thread for ideas...this could work too!
https://www.daz3d.com/after-dark-leather-outfit-for-genesis-8-and-81-females
I can confirm the pants look wonderful on G9 and the shirt has morphs to open the neckline which would be useful for my purposes.
*edit*
Here is another...though only the shirt would be useful and needs shaders
https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-sexy-suspender-outfit-for-genesis-9-8-and-81-female
Srsly recommend to consider making own your morphs with Hex. Bridge Hex-DS is so rock solid and fast. And if you are picky, means you can tailor adjust outfits like you want. You will love Hex's smoothing and more importantly it's "soft Selection" feature that allows you to set radius and stength. Moving things is crazy easy when you get the hang of it. Then make several morphs for each outfit you like doing whatevs! Anyway just a thought.
Here is an example of exactly what I'm looking for just for reference -
Before I saw you wanted puffier sleeves I thought https://www.daz3d.com/draculita-for-genesis-8-females might work. Seems to autofit to Gen9 quite well and has lots of material zones when I threw a quick shader at it.
If you were happy to export/import obj's and pick up the MD trial you could drape something like:
https://connect.clo-set.com/detail/310c1f8ddc0d430e98e17f104def7474
https://connect.clo-set.com/detail/6a5f624d36964fb78db8e72d72335478
Oh, I didn't see this until I posted. OK, more MD stuff but https://www.artstation.com/marketplace/p/d5Y8M/20-medieval-man-shirt-vol-01-video-tutorial (and https://www.artstation.com/marketplace/p/0elY7/5-medieval-men-s-belt-marvelous-designer-clo3d-zprj-fbx-obj)
This has roughly the cut you want, but I get the impression you're looking for a substantial, "garment-y" quality that it lacks.
https://www.renderosity.com/marketplace/products/156975/dforce-affinity-dress-for-g8-8-1f-and-g9
I paid like $200 for Marvelous Designer (1-year membership) a couple years ago and didn't even open it once...so completely waste of money for me. I don't really have any interest in making my own outfits. I can kitbash and I can even rip models from the game and rig them for use...but I really don't want to learn an entire new program just to make art. We all have our things...making clothing isn't for me.
These are nice, but they don't come with materials. That is beyond my scope of expertise.
Heh, you mention rigging an obj, and I'm like, well MD would be waaay easier....
No worries. The only other thought was if you had https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-mi-two-piece-business-suit-for-genesis-8-and-81-males how far does the shirt open? Because your reference image looks like it has a dropped-shoulder seam, maybe you could expand the whole shirt, shrink the cuffs back to tight, then sim? I can't think of anything else high-quality with a collar. I have an openable unitard (deforce Union suit - I think my version is a freebie, not the one in the store) I can get to work like that with a clincher (timeline sim the corset/clincher 200% scale to 100% to pull in the shirt fabric), but it still has no nowhere near that much gather in the sleeve.
Look foward to seeing if anyone else has a suggestion
would the top of this dress work?
can hide bottom with geometry editor, or not
https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-cb-avast-sea-clothing-set-for-genesis-8-and-genesis-81-females
This is so difficult since most of those attributes aren't medieval at all. This made me think of a few products at Renderosity: Dzheng's Poet set 1 & 2 or his Fazhion set 4. You might be able to use morphs to open the shirt more or a little transparency and texture work would give more of that bare chest/Chippendale look. He also has a corset set in there.
If they come from MD they must be UV-mapped, and using a cloth shader preset on them should work. One of them seems to be free so it might be worth a try.
