This is my dream: A general shader where the base colour can tile, and an upper modification layer can have a different texture, trans, normal, tiling ratio and bump. That would then permit a small tile to be used for (eg) a limited area of slates on a roof, while the dirt/moss layer on top has a different texture, tiling setting to make it modify the standard tile in the areas needed to make the bigger model not seem to have repeats.
I would love some cloth shaders that reflect fabric from pre-Industrial Age looms. I have a reference that has shows what I am referring to. Consider the natural dyes available at the different periods of history, so chemical dye colors would not be seen. And not just European fabrics but world-wide.
Another idea is sun-bleached, damaged cloth that is we see on couches and curtains with parts near windows, shirts worn all the time, or rugs with shadows where furniture leaves the original color of the floor or carpets and the rest is bleached out, or covered with spotted stains. If you do wood, add bleached out spots on it too maybe with masks?
Any fabric that shows the pulled threads from cats claws. (A recent issue I am dealing with from two cats who love to knead my bedlinens.) But this happens to clothing as well.
One option I have looked for is a shader or effect that mimics the looks of shoes, pants legs, shoulders... that is hit with rain or splashed. It may be spotty or even be a bit muddy (looking at drivers who love to drive through puddles, rain or snow slush, at high speed to splash pedestrians). Or coffee stains dripped down the front from the mouth or your hand.
I use shaders constantly, and with all the shaders in the store I am still missing some I would love to see and would guaranteed buy. I am currently using the Brocade Iray Shaders quite a lot for Renaissance type of renders, but it's currently the only one in the store that I can really use in renders to get that kind of vibe. Here is an example:
But I am also very interested in shaders that can be used for materials in various states of decay. I am still bummed Damaged Painted Plaster Wall Shaders from Censored was removed from the store before I could buy I'm thinking about peelig piaint from wood or walls, mouldy surfaces etc. Not so much metal as there are already quite a few excellent rusty metal shaders is the store.
I would also love some jugendstil/Art Nouveau type of shaders as those would both be suitable for Fantasy or Historical type of renders, I am thinking Alphonse Mucha or Gustav Klimt. As far as I know there are no shaders in the store that could be qualified as such. (Tips are welcome).
Bump, Normal, Top Coat etc. options would be very welcome.
Thanks Richard. After I finished adding metadata to some of VanishingPoint's Arteria3D and Dark Anvil sets, I came up for air and looked at my emails. Very kind of you.
I'm a shader artist (before making your requests you can take a look at the quality of the work on my store if you would like to ) and I'm looking for what fabric shaders I can make as merchant resources for everyone, but I'm not really a renderer or clothes maker so I don't know what you guys all need? I'm sure there are fabrics that you all want and probably don't have many options for on Daz so if you guys could tell me here I can hopefully make them for you once I have your suggestions all lined up!!
Actual shaders? I would love to see a toon shader that works in iray something along the lines of PWtoon.
shaders as in texture shaders like metals, fabrics, etc. :)
What you make are shader presets, not shaders. There is a significant difference that many people do not properly distinguish. Even Daz seldom bothers to use correct terminology. Products like V3D Touch of Dirt contain true shaders (and many presets for those shaders).
I see thank you, I didn't realise the distinction!
As a PA and someone looking to make money from purchases you really sould be aware of the difference otherwise it could be construed as misselling (I doubt this was intentional) but its very frustrating when you think something is one thing only to find out its not what you were lead to believe.
I look forward to learning all of the various terminology, with my background being a film and television production degree this field of expertise is something completely different that I've had to teach myself, and having only been making textures in my spare time for around a year because I enjoy the self taught process I would be suprised if I could know everything immediately! But moving forward I'll bare that in mind.

Walls of different kinds is definitely on my to-do list, (possibly quite soon but there an element of process that I'm trying to fix at the moment :D I hope it lives up to your expectations when I finally do release it!
I have a reasonable amount of Daz fabric shaders, but don't think I'm getting close-up renders where the cloth looks realistic. Basically, I want fabrics the quality of Pauline's: https://www.artstation.com/jappluz
(If a plugin maker could do a utlity that would allow me to add realistic seams to the borders of outfits that would be fun)
These are lovely examples, I spend a lot of my time making sure my textures are close up ready so I hope that's a good thing aha, I love super artistic close renders so I couldn't imagine skimping out on the fine detail!! :D
I love good shaders, and I also like that you are now asking about our wishes, thank you! This is in the mutual interest.
Brocade! Brocade, Brocade, Brocade! DazAI shows wonderful brocade fabrics (e.g. just try a 'Belly Dancer' prompt). I would be very happy if this treasure was also made accessible to DS.
I would also love good silk and satin shaders. From rough to the finest shiny silk, with a large selection of patterns. From East Asian to Indian, Middle Eastern, Rococo, to modern patterns. Hand-woven, rustic linen fabrics, plain and traditional/classic patterned, would also be great.
Aha brocade seems to be cropping up a lot! The tiling of the intricate patterns is my only hesitation here, but it's definitely something I'll start looking into! As for the rustic linen idea that shouldn't be difficult at all for me so I can surely make a start on!
I wouldn't mind a proper suede texture, the vast majority of the ones I've seen are way too flat and look more like leather then suede, suede is fuzzy sorta.

Hey there, have you seen the suede texture in my leather pack? I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for but I'm quite proud of it, hopefully it'd help you with what you need

I had the exact same issue, all the suedes I was trying to find looked nothing like the Suede I needed for clothing. Then FC2C came to me to do their promos and I clicked through to this one and was like "That's it, this is the one"
Your pedantry did make me think about what a dedicated cloth shader would look like. Selectable weave patterns, procedurally-generated normals and displacement, thread thickness and material, separate warp and weft coloring...
Here's some things I've poked around with in ShaderMixer (mostly in 3Delight):
use PNG alpha-channels for transparency from the Diffuse map.
tile and rotate texture maps (for bias-cut cloth, or when the UVs don't follow the seamstress' lines).
And what I haven't accomplished but would love to see (3Delight, Iray, Filament...):
procedural denim/twill weaves
a "plaid machine" loom shader (requires the above twill weave) that can input up to, say 30 threads in six colors and lay them into the warp and woof for the above.
or a "plaid machine" that tiles a color-striped image into the warp (UV map) and woof (swap U and V) according to the above twill weave.
dirt and wear are hard to do with tiles for sure, so it would likely have to be subtle and generic rather than specific details...just something to give the impression that this has been used and is not factory fresh.
Industrial, like used denim, workshop rags and linens
this is pretty much along the lines I was thinking as well and it's definitely something I can do for sure! so like fabrics you'd see around a workshop? Or what workers might wear etc?
The different uses that leather goods are put to than cotton/denim goods or such means the wear and staining would have to be different. A stained and worn dress shirt won't be stained and threadbare the same way that a stained and worn denim work shirt (same mesh, same UV mapping) should be, and leather pants wear differently than jeans.
I would like tilable textile shaders for clean clothing from, 1840 - 1980. That sound like a massive amount but I think it's probably not. And I would like the colors not in the actual image materials, but in the transparency/opacity/reflectivity channels of the shaders along with the masks for woven symbol patterns.

Destiny's Designs posted the link so I have it bookmarked, wishlisted and in my to browsers to buy folder lol Along with the brocade shaders that were posted elsewhere on this thread.

Decent ciruit boards, like old-fashioned green and metal, with crisp edges, non-emissive. edit: Though now that I go back to the title, it was asking about fabric shaders... You know those old patterned flour sacks that they used to make dresses out of back in the day? And perhaps some trade wool broadcloth. Oh, and beadwork. Doesn't matter if it tiles if all you're doing is the little hem strips.

I'm thinking I should change the title if I can to all textures because everyone has such good requests and I don't just do fabrics aha

Heck yeah. :) Not kidding about the beadwork, though. Don't know if you've seen zoro_d's Your Wild Star with Moyra's Western Chic textures, but that's the one time I can recall seeing it actually looking good on a Daz outfit.
I know I keep mentioning Half-Life's iReal shaders, but they are what I consider as great shaders as they give you tools to depict something more close to reality. With iMetal having the ability to handle the IOR,Refractive index and Extinction coefficient of a metal.
Other than that, the way I use shaders/shader presets is by using it in conjunction with the textures the prop already has. Very rarely do I use the textures coming with them. So I mean, it would be good to have the shader/shader presets not just rely on the textures for difference.

Not sure if it's even possible to program in MDL.

The detail maps in PBRSkin have separate tiling settings from the rest of the shader, so at least that much is possible.

Yes, the UV (or rather, ST) values can be edited before being fed into a map brick in Shader Mixer so indepenent control is entirely possible.
