Hobbyist generally buy at discounts, discounts are a given (their depth and nature vary).
I got it at 90% off. (Banner coupon, Tempesta, and 8 tokens)
Yes, but you may be getting an extra discount as a PA. The best I could do with that combo was 88% off
Correction: monkeys have tails, apes–gorillas, chimps, oranguntans–don't.
The coupon is good 'til the 23rd, Perhaps it will still turn out to your advantage.
Heh, ok, sure, 88% is still pretty good!!
Yes, but my tokens expire tomorrow. So, I'm only waiting until then.
SUn Wukong has a tail in almost all depictions. In fact his shapeshifting power explicitly does not transform his tail in the stories.
If we're talking about likenesses to other products, it's a close ringer to the classic PLANET OF THE APES designs back when they used makeup instead of CG... and knock-offs of those prosthetic designs are commonly sold now on etsy with "monkey king" being one of the suggested costume uses. As for me, I'll probably never use the morph as intended, but since I could pick up the pro bundle for $26 and I already wanted the hair set and the John Wick suit enough to buy them seperately, it was an easy item to put in the cart.
lou_harper was correcting Zatetic (apes and monkeys are both primates, so saying "monkeys have tails but primates don't" is contradictory), not arguing against Wu Kong 9 having a tail.
Don't see it myself...
I'm making no statement whatsoever about what happened, because I don't know. I also don't spend my time looking for assets ripped from video games, so I don't know if anything got leaked. Like I said, one of the possibilities is that Daz licensed the character from the studio, which would be completely above-board; another possibility is that it was inspired by the character from the upcoming game. Either way, a mod is currently investigating whether the character should have an Editorial License, which wouldn't even be a question if the character were a wholly original work, and it would be a pretty wild coincidence for this character to be released slightly over a month ahead of the most highly anticipated game of the summer.
I think the head looks more vampire bat than monkey.
Wu Kong head, Mercilus body and teeths, Death textures. Underwear because I don't know if vampire nipples are against the TOS.
It shouldn't, and it isn't even that close to the game design (within the range of "Monkey King" designs). Choosing to do one now might owe a bit to the game, I don't know, but we had pigsy a while back - it may be that was successful enough to prompt them, or to prompt them to buy this from the PA who already had it in train.
So you say, it is ok to use Wu Kong in renders to post in forums or even sell such renders?
It's not an editorial license, and given that in the past when an item released on a standard license and got an editorial later, it was usually later the same day. Wukong 9 still doesn't have one. So it's the standard license terms.
I see no reason to think otherwise, and certainly we have been told that the product was not meant to have an Editorial License.
I have been using https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/en-US/product/paragon-wukong for free for years in several of my videos along with other free content in Unreal Engine
so I doubt DAZ's version is going to attract any issues
For a truly "tongue in cheek" retelling of the Chinese myths, might I recommend "Overly Sarcastic Productions" version narrated and illustrated (in a casual "manga" style) by "Red"?

Great to know and Wu Kong bundle looks great.
I hope that Daz 3D will create even more such interesting characters.
Thank you Charlie Judge and lou_harper for catching my primate error. I should have said monkeys have tales but apes (Hominidae) don't. Sun Wukong is an interesting literary and religious character. All of the historical depictions I have seem of him show him with a tale but I suppose that it is easier to remove it when developing a 3d version of him.
I will note that many of my anthro figures include a prop tail that is easy to adjust and move around, so it'd be trivial to add it in.
He has a very long tale, but King kong has a tale too - it is in the possession of tails that they differ.
Here's an attempt with Oso Perrito tail:
