I've pretty much got the old fantasy stuff I want. But there's still old science fiction items I can use if I retexture (and I'm going to have to retexture some of it for Blender or Luxcorerender anyway). So that's what I've been buying. It's about time to stop, though, till the last week in March.
I rejoined Premier the last day of February to get 2 sets of coupons, so picked up Niketa's bundle with the free coupon, and Zale 8.1 and a couple other wishlisted items with my $10 DO coupon. Debating whether to use some of my March ones now or see what Daz offers later.
I used my March $10 coupon yesterday, I didn't want to wait.
For your free character bundle, I recommend waiting until the end of the month. For me, the last release in the month tends to be the best release (Lycan, Sylvia, Cecelia, to name a few).
Both coupons can work great together if someone wants the Character bundle and the Addon bundle.
I save my $10 coupon for random purchases throughout the month where I wasn't anticipating spending, but I can mitigate the cost of that impluse buy.
Both ways have merit. I think I did something similar to the combo when I got Tara 9. I got the character bundle with my free January coupon, then used one of the $10 ones for add-ons I wanted, which were still very discounted at New Years. (Not 100% sure because there's no way to tell on orders what coupons if any were used)
I am waiting on using the March character coupon, but not necessarily for an upcoming New one. I'm hoping Daz will do another of those promos where they triple the number of eligible bundles, including previous New Releases that dropped off the list. I don't have as many of the older G9 ones as some people because 1) I seldom picked up bundles before that coupon was offered & 2) only in the last year have G9 items been discounted enough that I could afford to get into the generation beyond the starter content & holiday PA gifts.
door prize sale--sounds good, buy 3, but I've passed on buying 1, how am I going to buy 3 from the same pool of products I already passed on. Some mysteries I just can;t figure out.
That's exactly what I'm buying -- Nightshift3D science fiction -- so I was happy with getting 3.
Exactly. I'm never going to buy a doorbuster unless they add more choices. There is not a single thing left in that pool of old tired content that I would purchase for more than 50 cents. This sale is a total wash for me but also a wake-up call that I already own too much content. But I still enjoy buying more if I can get it at super discounted prices and I'm just not interested until something is at least 85% off for PA items and 94% off for Daz Originals. Otherwise, it just languishes in my wishlist never to be purchased. I guess I've been lucky to pick up so many great items for great prices over the years and now may be a good time to just sit this out and wait for better sales and larger pools of discounted items to choose from. I still have a decent amount of store credit that never expires so there's no rush to buy anything until it's at a price I'm happy with. This sale is really designed around newbies with Premier. For them, it may be great.
Well, thankfully we didn't get sci-fi hallways or a hot tub for this week's free-with-subscription.
We got jungle huts, which are far less niche and usable by just about anyone.
(And if anyone missed it, that statement is dripping so much sarcasm there's a puddle of it on the floor.)
"Let Stonemason take you to futura"
What's the sale?
The futuristic theme of today's sale is to provide a conduit to use those free sci-fi hallways and hot tubs. Stonemason takes us to all sorts of time and places. Remember that time he made us a medieval castle? It was awesome.
actually I would love an iray version of https://www.daz3d.com/winter-castle
I may or may not have traversed from another univers where Stonemason made that one.
Maybe you had the Winter Castle or The Streets of the Medieval in mind ?
That Winter Castle for sure.
mmm must be a different one I am thinking of then
Maybe this one ?

It's an product Stonemason sold to Daz and it's among the first product you'll see if you're opening the door prize selection.
I think it might be this one? https://www.daz3d.com/winter-kingdom-castle-ruins
I keep wondering if it just might work to some extent with Iray like some other older sets, but I haven't bought it so far, since it says it was expressly built for 3Delight with material dials for snow etc...
LOL... no idea why, but the first thing that popped into my head when I clicked the link was "So I built a third. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. But the fourth one stayed up. And that's what you're going to get, Lad, the strongest castle in all of England."
Think of all the things you might find on your way to that castle. Including the majestik møøse. A møøse once bit my sister...
yes, I remember now and it was indeed that
I wanted a before and after for a video but the 3Delight shaders are not easy to convert as use procedural functions such as height
If you don't need snow there is the Ruins of Emerald Hills.
I like this one, too. Stonemason makes some incredible environments.
And I'll give the correct kudos to The Alchemist for that amazing Medieval Castle Construction Kit. He/she also has amazing products.
I'm glad we don't have a shortage of castles. I wish we had more vampiric castles but that's a whole other thing.
"Work" as "work in general", it will because everything 3Delight, unless it's some specific custom shader (for instance, the toon shader), works on Iray—but you better convert it for more control/quality. Now... "Work" as in "work well," I don't know... The stone walls probably will even without conversion (of course, converting it, you'll be able to make it look better and according to your tastes), but I'm not sure about the snow because I never rendered anything snowy... I guess, though, you can always copy the shaders from another snowy product and/or change the textures...
Wendy mentioned procedural textures, so it probably wouldn't look right out of the box. Well, I decided to get it today at the doorbuster price out of curiosity and see what I can do with it.
So out of the box with the skydome turned down/off and a sky HDRI, this is what we get in Iray preview... Eek!! So the shader on the ruins, and the patchy snow shaders on the steps and terrain is really just 3Delight only. BUT we have some terrain and modeled ruins, so now to mess around...

I threw some medieval brick shaders on the ruins with extra displacement/roughness and a dirt layer, plus an extra snow layer on the terrain - and it's okay-ish. Not quite sold on it - I have to tweak things more if I can. (I'm just showing Iray previews - no full renders)

With atmosphere, snow fall, tone mapping etc., we can get something more interesting, at least at distance. I think I can work with this.

yes, quite a few older Stonemason sets use 3Delight funtionality
I always had a fair bit of work getting them into Carrara too unless there were Poser shaders
(not impossible but I had to set up the Carrara equivalents from scratch)
iray lacks some of those terrain functions like height from ground affecting the shading
