Legacy UV's for Genesis 3; V4

Hi everybody,

I am totally frustrated at this moment...i purchased this "Legacy UV's for Genesis3; V4, because i have a lot of V4 skins that i like a lot, and wanted to try this together with GF3, but..because english is not my first language, i just don't get it how to do this. Is there somebody that has this product also, and could explain it to me, maybe with pictures , how it should be done exactly please? I think it is a great program to use, but i am getting more and more mad, because i don't know what steps to do, and even there is a Read Me that explains it, i still don't understand...(Sorry, i am not stupid, just ...ehm...frustrated :D )I am so far that i see the yellow thingies on the head, legs and arm, but what then?

What is your first language? I can provide a translation to German, if that's any help... but I haven't had time to work with the plugin yet.

Rian, once the yellow geografts have been loaded, you then load the V4 MATs.  The V4 MATS must be in .duf format, so you might have to do those first.

Depending on how the .duf MATs have been made, you may then have to click on the "Apply V4 UVs" icon to set the UVs to V4.  But if you use something like DraagonStorm's batch converter to make the .dufs, then the V4 UVs will already be set.

Cayman your Legacy UV's are a must have! I have them both and use them all the time, so thank you. :) I even bought both DraagonStorm's batch converters just for these.

Now can I ask if you're doing the same for G3M? (I know.. never happy eh? LOL) I need them bad! :)

Hi BeeMKay, my first language is Dutch, i am from the Netherlands :D

Do you own the plug-in also? I know the first step is to select GF3, and the click on "Prepare Genesis 3. That is easy, and you see Genesis with the yellow thingies on het shoulders, head and legs. Then this is the next step; "Apply the Legacy Material files in the normal way by navigating to the required folders and clicking on the icons" So then i apply a V4 texture on GF3 (it has to be in duf, so i checked that)The V4 skin turns on the GFbody everywhere, exept on the yellowpieces. But what then? I don't know how to get the yellow piece covered with the same V4 texture...

It sounds like you selected G3F but not the geografts. Go into the scene tab and make sure G3F and also all the geografts are selected. It should work fine after that. :)

Thank you SassyWench, that did the trick! Exept for one thing; everything is okay, just the way it has to be, but not the arms, they don't react when i add the texture and keep the texture of GF3.

Yessss....i know now what to do !! Yeay...i am happy that i get it right! Thanks all so much for the comments and answers, and yes, just as AssyWench already said to you Cayman; you made a fantastic product, thanks !!

Glad you got it sorted! :) Happy rendering!

Rian, you got the arms done?  Glad to hear it.  And thanks for your comments.

Sassy, I like it that you like them - they're a lot of work!  M4 for G3M ought to be next, but I don't like to count my chickens.

I couldn't even imagine the work involved, but I'd sure glad you succeeded! OK.. we won't count chickens, I'll just count pennies and look forward to it!  These sets really are the one of the most valuable resources I have for G3. :)

@RianB, I used to live near the Dutch border. I can only understand some spoken Dutch, unfortunately. Speaking, reading, writing I can't. crying

But I'm glad you figured out how to work the plugin!

Total LOVE for this product! Works like a charm. smiley

This is G3F sporting the G2 Adele skin texture, using just the base Iray conversion.

@Cayman, thanks for a great product, and one question: the G2F set currently is supporting G2F base UV, and not stuff like Monique 6 UV, and the other gazillion UV formats of the Series 6? Is that correct?

Hi Cayman, I am glad to hear you are working on an M4 for G3M, I do hope you will consider a G2M for G3M as well (like we already have a G2F for G3F). I do have a lot of M4 skins, so M4 for G3M will help, but I am more concerned about getting my more modern skins onto G3M, ie those originally created for G2M.

BeeMKay, I think you've hit the nail on the head.  "Gazillions" of UV sets means there are fewer actual textures for each one, and so fewer potential sales for any conversions for them.  In any case, the vast majority of G2F textures use the Base Female UV set.  The only other one which comes close is V5, so that will probably be done too.

Havos,  G2M is a possibility - I won't put it any higher than that, though seeing as each one of these conversions seems to take several weeks to do, it might be a while anyway.

It may be that once the initial upheaval of shifting the UVs from Genesis 2 to Genesis 3 is done, further conversions will be quicker.  But I don't know yet.

Gotta say I love your solution to the 'impossible' conversion of V4 to G3F. Simple, easy to use and it works beautifully. Between that and various autofit clones, I'm able to use my characters across the various figures with only minor morph differences between them. :)

I love them too, I bought both products so can't wait for more to come out.

Another big vote of thanks and congrats on such an elegant solution.

I'm afraid I no longer see a V4 version of the geograft solution to being able to use V4 skins on G3F models. Has it been removed for some reason? Could I get a link to where it is at?

    Thank you for your time.

    Lots of *hug*

Kaimetsuo, it is at the "Other Place".  No links allowed!  laugh

You can still say that it's over at Renderosity.wink

If someone asks for a link I believe it is permitted, but a mod knows the rules better

Tricky in a case like this. Yes, if someone asks for an X and there happens to be an X at Renderosity then linking is fine (unless our spidey senses detect a put-up job) but I'm not sure that really applies to a thread on the product series. However, it's certainly OK to say that the other sets are at Renderosity under the same vendor name.

I'd point out that with 'gazillion UVs for G2F' you could do transfer maps to convert them. Step 1, convert to a format the Legacy package can use, then step 2... use it. ;)

Naturally you could also use blender or Blacksmith3d to convert the maps directly to G3F, however the whole point of Cayman's brilliant product is not to have to convert any maps at all. This is particular useful for characters with many different maps for make up options or tatooos. It would be very tedious to convert all these maps.

Yeah, I'd expect G2M base for G3M to be the next logical product in terms of sales potential.  Of course, when it comes to male skins, it's unlikely that anything is ever going to rival the M4 UV.  That said, while most of the Genesis 1 Male UVs are probably too badly fractured by dedicated figure UVs to make them viable, I would like to see a M5 to G3M so that the handfull of products that were sold as being dually M5/M6 compatible, like Skin Builder, could be used on the latest generation.

Havos: Sure, but if you're talking about obscure UVs like Reptilian or whatnot...

Certainly true. Highly unlikely that Cayman or Blacksmith3D will ever release products to handle these one off UVs. It kind of devalues the products that have these UVs since they are tricky to use in future generations.

This is an amazing tool. I have a lot of V4 characters and now I can use them on Genesis 3 Female characters.

Below is the skin of MDD_Gillian for V4 from Renderosity applied to the shape of

    http://www.daz3d.com/vincenzina-for-genesis-3-female

    Then I have applied http://www.daz3d.com/jm-humanshader-for-iray

to the skin. Daz Studio iray renders.

  • I am really interested in this product but I render in Octane standalone.  I export out the .obj and apply materials in Octane so would there by any issues with this product using that workflow?

Question.  Was there ever a batch converter for M4 to Genesis 2 Male? I'm only finding the one for V4 to Genesis 2 Female.  Unless there is a work around ....
