Why is the DAZ Install Manager Download So SLOW?

I replaced my hard drive and decided to just rebuild everything from scratch.
I started downloading my stuff from DAZ through Install Manager and it was taking so long, I stated watching it on my network monitor.
It downloads content at less than a tenth the speed of any other site.
What gives?

I'm on Comcast service tier 12 Mbps/1.4 MB/s in Sacramento, CA which matches DIM's 1.4 MB/s download speed on the lower right corner when downloading just a few minutes ago.
I am on AT&T U-verse internet-only service, rated at 25Mb/s download, tested just now at 23Mb/s.
I used DAZ Install Manager and never got above 2Mb/s download.
Just to see if I was seeing something incorrectly, while I was downloading products with DAZ Install Manager, I downloaded two products from two other sites. Each of the two sites pegged my network monitor at appox. 25Mb/s, one after the other. DAZ Install Manager continued at 2Mb/s download.
I repeated the download procedure from the same two sites with two other products. Same results.
So, either you're special or you're doing something I'm not.
I was confused on speed ratings used by ISPs. My service was rated at 12 Mbps (verified with Speedtest.net) which I interpreted to be Megabytes per second but download speed indicators from DIM or Windows was consistent at 1.4MB/s. Upon researching the definition of Mbps, it's an acronym for Megabits per second, not Megabytes per second..
I used this online conversion calculator to convert Megabits per scond to Megabytes per second. The calculator conversion result for me, 1.5 MB/s, is close to the 1.4 MB/s I'm seeing in various download speed indicators.

I've been in Information Technology for 44 years. I have been a TCP/IP network adminstrator since 1985.
I use the term Mb/s specifically to mean Megabits per second.
If I meant MB/s, I would use the term MB/s and not Mb/s.
It's my job to know the diff and not make mistakes.
What is the speed indicator on the lower right corner of DIM displaying for you?
I have no idea what you are talking about.
Can you elucidate?
DIM gives the download speed in the lower-right corner of the Ready to Download tab while it is downloading.
OK, well, if I ever have to use it again, I'll look for it.
It is ULTRA slow. I did a speed test and I am getting 105mbps with my computer and the DIM is at a paltry 149KBs. Edit- make that a lousy 124kb.
Possibly people downloading all their march madness goodies, although I was nearly maxing out my connection last night at 845HB/s, not far short of the 852 that is really flodding the pipe.
Five downloads just failed after 45 minutes. This is ridiculous.
Not only is it not downloading, I had to install that new version as it was doing ring-around-the rosie and saying there was a new version, not letting me use DIM at all, then crashing and saying it couldn't be uploaded. The new DIM update thread said to install it manually, so I did. Then it crashed with the failed downloads. I shut it down, reloaded, and now it's spinning for TEN MINUTES with this stupid update. What did you people to to the DIM??????
my speedtest says I am getting 3.50 Mbps for downloads but DIM is only doing 608 kb/s
I was hitting just over 3.5 MB/sec in DIM about 6 hours ago - Northern Indiana, on Google Gigabit fiber at my local Starbucks. I used to do networking support years ago, before I fobbed it off to a co-worker to do Sysadmin work full-time so I have a bit of background in the area.
Any chance there's a intermediate bottleneck?
Please stick to the topic and avoid attacking or insulting others.
@namffuak, I don't see any bottlenecks from where I am. Traceroute shows nothing. I can download far more sophisticated tools if there is value in doing so.
The reason I don't see any need to do any further analysis is that no other site acts like this. I get max download speed from every other site no matter what I do.
Yanno, I should bypass DIM and just try a straight download from DAZ. brb
Very, very interesting. A straight HTTP download from DAZ is JUST AS SLOW as DIM. Totally unexpected.
OK. More data. The daz3d.com website is hosted by telia.se, which is in SWEDEN! However, its round-trip times are 24ms, which is darn good. Very darn good.
But the downloads are coming from downloads.daz3d.com which is hosted by blackmesh.com which is just outside of Washington DC. It is HORRIBLE! omg!
So, it's not the software after all. It is the hosting provider and maybe the host itself. I no longer have the tools to do a deep scan inside a foreign network, but I could if I really wanted to.
Wow, this is AMAZING.
Unfortunately, there seems to be no way to contact Dan Farr. We used to be good friends but he seems to have completely cut himself off from any contact.
/sigh /smh
I just downloaded DIM from my Product Library and installed it, no problems here, download speeds are reasonable.
So odd. Why would some people be fine and others not? This is bizarre behavior. I have never seen anything like this and I have been in networking for 31 years.
Unfortunately, I don't know of a way I can do distributed analysis of this because I don't have access to a network that has a large number of distributed computers. I had that at DHL, but I don't now.
Connection speed 150Mbps. DIM download speed 140KBs
Today I got an unexpected 4 hours of time off of work and decided to use it doing to modeling. Bought a couple quick items off the DAZ store first, went to download them. 2 hours later the download queue isn't even half done. Wth?
DS 4.9.2.70 was released, the Daz servers are getting hammered.
The download server(s) are being hammered, between the Studio release update and the 60% offf DAZ Originals; I'm running at about 150-180 KB/sec. Normal for me is about 4.9 MB/sec.
There is a lot of download activity going on right now so most of our download servers are pegged. This was one of the reasons for Daz Connect, so that we could shuffle downloading off to a distributed CDN to increase everybody's speed. As our customer base continues to grow the infrastructure for DIM or direct downloads just isn't going to be able to scale as well as a dedicated content delivery network.
Unfortunately, for a new software release there isn't much Daz Connect can do because it can't download/install new versions of software.
Super slow for me too. I presume it's just the 4.9.2 release hammering the servers. It's been 5-10MB/s over the last few weeks, every time I bought something. Right now it's about 450kB/s for me. SF Bay Area.
I recently upgraded my Internet service to 175 mbps. I've been waiting all day to download and install my content via DIM. DIM only downloads 2 files at a time.
Yes, DIM only downloads 2 files at a time. I have a 300mbs connection, same deal. I normally get an aggregate speed (as reported at the bottom of the DIM window) of between 5-10MB/s (50-100Mbs/s) while it's downloading two files at a time. Yesterday I downloaded 1.1GB of content plus the DS 4.9.2 upgrade and I guess it took 3 hrs or so, with speeds jumping around from 50kB/s to 500kB/s. Today I just downloaded something and it was back closer to normal, around 2MB/s.
I read that the servers were beung hammered due to the DAZ Studio upgrade and the big sale. I stopped downloading and tried the following day. Everything was much faster.
I have a 1mbps connection here (before anyone remarks: can’t get any better on my side of the world). Every other site, and even direct downloads from DAZ, easily manages an average of 60KB/s, 80-100kB/s at peak speeds.
DAZ Install Manager averages less than 10KB/s with occasional peaks at 17KB/s, and an average of four to five download failures per file. Tell me again, what’s the use of such a tool?
