Funny that music came up because a song inspired a render I never used for a NU contest in October of last year. It’s one of the few renders I still have saved.
Kind of autobiographical so might need some context. (Which means no one will read this... )
Early 2000s drove a Mazda Miata to Sul Ross University to be (relatively) close to Big Bend park for hiking and photography. Was also into archery back then-- FITA style.
At the range, a good looking female track star was also practicing & quite good at it. Headed towards 800+ So was I, but that’s another matter.
So every guy at the range was interrupting her, hitting on her, etc. (They weren’t asking me for shooting tips!)
Anyway, as an archer, I left her be-- also figured anyone who looked like she did was probably out of my league so to speak.
One day, a rare thing for the desert that time of year-- rained down in sheets. I was at the door of the main building watching it rain, and who should I notice standing next to me but “Vicky” the archery maiden!
She spoke first with a comment about archery. (Archer chat ensued until rain let up.) Was surprised because had just assumed she’d be stuck up. Actually she was very personable.
Fast forward and a group of us had decided to roadtrip to another park, Guadalupe Mountains. Surprise of my life as “Vicky” asked if she could ride shotgun. Didn't even know she was among our rag-tag group! Was happy to oblige of course. : )
Anyway, two hours into the drive, “Vicky” asked if she could drive. Someone who’s probably 5’ 10” cramming herself behind the wheel of a Miata is funny. She actually had to crouch down a little below the windshield.
Then she asked if she could floor it... Why not! We’re on a straight road in the middle of no where. Let our convoy eat dust!
Pure fun! Cranked up the cassette volume full blast and Dave Edmunds just happened to be singing part of "Get Out of Denver"
“Heading out for the mountains knowing we was traveling further!
All the tires were blazing and the spinning wheels were turning turning!
Had my girl beside me, brother she was burning burning!”
The fast pace of the song, and the words just seemed to fit the moment! One of those memories that sticks with you I guess.
Well done Tynkere, best way to ensure what you write gets read is to note in the first few lines no one will read this.
You think a a good looking 5' 10" woman looks strange in a miata. I had a tall lanky 6' 2" friend that drove a mg midget. With his long red hair and a full length beard he looked very strange moving down the road.
Thanks to everyone who replied. Very kind of you. My renders are still very much amatuer hour, but seeing others post some of their 'older' renders-- decided I'd share a bit. : )
